Great documentary! a lesson to learn. Wild animals should be left in their natural habitat, it was wrong for Chandani's father to buy the baby elephant, and have it tied in his front garden, as if it was a dog. So cruel? I am glad the law caught up with him and he had to return the elephant to the wild, that is where the baby elephant belongs. Chandani, please do not even dream of training an elephant to do tricks or use him for a circus, that is totally against nature and so cruel. I do not believe any animal being chained or tired, even a dog! Chandani, since you have a natural flare and an animal lover, please become a wildlife vet and help injured animals (wild elephants), you certainly have the knack for it! Why do they have so many thick chains around the poor elephant's neck?

Unfortunately the Hindus in Kerala temples enslave bull elephants torture them in a very painful manner for years to break their spirit to parade them at temple festivals the hi dus are so mean low mentality they pul the hairs on the tail end of the elephant and sell them to Hindus to make gold bangles embedded with elephant hair for their children... And the mahout ties a cheap black Chinese plastic brush on the Tal end to make it look like hairs. Such shitty shameless types of no conscience are only in Hindu people running temples in kerala profiting from enslaving intelligent noble elephants transporting from temple to temple on trucks through the heavily polluted congested roads... Those elephants should be in their forest habitat not in the clutches of these heartless Hindus. So many have died under torture by the Hibdus in temples.

Elephants are wild animals and should be in the wild. They are not domesticated work horses or dogs and even horses and dogs shouldn’t be tied up to a tree all day alone without companionship. Elephants are extremely sensitive animals that definitely shouldn’t be separated from their parents and extended family members as they don’t thrive well away from them. I also don’t like seeing them hit on their heads with sticks. Lek Chalet of Thailand is the true Elephant whisperer and her methods should be observed and taught as she lives with them and treats them with the upmost respect and dignity that they deserve. It’s sad to say that we as humans for some unknown reason feel the need to dominate the animals of this world for our own needs and entertainment instead of letting them be free to live in harmony with us.😔

Elephants are so sacred to Sinhala people. From The "great Kadol(B.C 161)" of king Dutugemunu. Lakhs of elephants were used in wars to protect Buddhism against Tamil Hindu invaders from South India. That's how Buddhism still exists in Sri Lanka. Because of that, Sinhala people have respect to elephants and tuskers. As a remembrance of the tuskers who sacrificed their lives to the protection of Buddhism, still the casket is being driven by an elephant.

Chandani's Father the "Mahout" says he bought the baby elephant/got it from the jungle which is totally illegal in Sri Lanka. Traditionaly buddihst temples always had elephants in the Temple grounds, this practice too is being wiped out so these majestic animals can live in the wild. Its sad because i grew up in Ceylon and Elephants were always around us where ever we went they were on the main roads, jungles and some front yards with their mahouts. These animals are very valuble and very well looked after by the owners with a dedicated mahout that even sleeps alonside the elephant. There is no animal cruelty involved, this animal can destroy its owner and handler if it wishes to do so but it is happy being pampered, washed, scrubbed and well fed. Lets have a balance. In Australia you drive along a country road and you see signs beware of Kangaroos, in my beautiful country of Sri Lanka we have sign that say beware of Elephants, both unique animals but one is being poached in the wild!

It’s sad that your elephant was taken to that orphanage. I’ve seen videos from tourists that show how the workers abuse the elephants. Especially the 3 legged elephant. They tease him with his prosthetic leg. They hit him with a thin stick on his damaged leg real hard right were it hurts him the most. Then throw the prosthetic limb down on the ground and the poor elephant can’t pick it up to put it on its leg and they don’t help him. They also hit the other babies for no reason. Think how you would feel being whipped with a stick or have your ears torn by hooks or being chained never able to move more than in short shuffles . We need to treat our wild family with respect . I also see a baby elephant being sent to a place where he could have a chance to be part oa wild herd again . I hope that more elephants will join him . I hope that mahoots become paid guardians of the wild herds and lay down the hooks and sticks in favour of loving touches and food delivery.
