great video subbed, i think with the increasing popularity of linux over windows, more and more people are going to adopt natron over after effects, just a suggestion if you can increase the text size of the software somehow or just zoom in to the area of importance , it would be a lot better to see in my laptop screen :)

Mistypix Studios Thanks. Also, thanks for the tips. About Natron replacing AE.. I don't know, they are too different and AE users are often really loyal to their software LOL. On the other hand this will be good for beginner artists, this guys will have lots of options and good free tools to choose from. This kind of users will have more freedom to choose regardless of the amount of money they have 😀
@mistypixstudios63047 жыл бұрын
yup :) ... they are too loyal but if the quality stardards keep improving, the beginers will chose the free software like blender is becoming more and more popular , and it might beat maya in few years :). i was also a long time user of adobe , but i am trying to completely switch to linux because window is shit, so i have to find alternatives. i have found almost all replacement softwares, the only thing i am kind of missing is a NLE video editor and photoshop. espacially one feature in premiere where we can do "voice over record" , do you know any free software which has voice over record?

So, I`ve also played with Natron recently. Most of problems were about impossibility of importing many footages of different formats (from mp4 to m2ts) and problems with framerates, e.g. I pointed in that the project should be 50 fps and imported video of the same fps. But when I wanted making the mask before keying that video it said that it`s impossible because of different frame rates. There were also such issues with different nodes and problems. So, very raw for now.
@chanruzzi9 жыл бұрын
Yep! Sometimes this kind of thing happens. If you're setting up the project frame rate properly before importing footages and creating nodes, then matching the footages with custom FPS and you are still getting the same errors, I strongly suggest you report it as a bug in the GitHub Issue Tracker: github.com/MrKepzie/Natron/issues

One of the biggest issues for me wasn't getting the node setup, but rendering out the composite in Natron 2.0.0 RC. I tried a number of ways and I would get errors while rendering. Either saying that the container didn't support that rendering type (FFMpeg) or when trying to export a .mov I'd get to frame 3 and it would say there was another instance (cleared all cache and disconnected the view node too) rendering that frame. Ease of use is great, but the rendering seems to not really be covered well enough (or really at all) in tutorials that I've come across. I'm on the latest version of Mac OS with the latest version of Natron. If there are any suggestions I would love to try them.
@chanruzzi9 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I struggled a bit with its exporting formats and codecs too. It really isn't that straightforward to get it done properly. I myself had to try a few times with different formats and codecs combinations. About the suggestions you asked for, at the end of my last video I teach how to export a .MOV file out of Natron. Hope it helps: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kKnakGamr7KijNk Thanks for the feedback.

You can also use a "Dissolve" node instead of a "merge" and animate the "Which" parameter the same way."

Yep. Natron has changed a little bit. Try this ( sorry but I'm not at my Natron PC right now ) ⬇️⬇️⬇️ On the properties of the roto node, first make a rectangle that will cover the entire canvas, then on another mask layer, draw the shape you want to mask and then change the blending operation between these masks until you see black on the BG and white where your masks are. Hit "a" for alpha view while having the Viewer node coming directly from your roto node. It should work. Hope it helps :)

One question if you dont mind: I tried to import some stock footage effect into natron (MPEG 4 QuickTime Container, Variable BitRate, PNG Compression). Got the error: ReadFFmpeg1 error: unable to find video stream Can anything be done about this (maybe some settings) or is it necessary to wait till natron supports more formats? Blender opens the video with alpha w/o problems, so i could in theory export it as png sequence e and then use it in Natron, but i don't wanna do that for my whole stock footage collection
@chanruzzi10 жыл бұрын
I see. It would really be a bit painful to do that, if you have a lot of stock footages. As I didn't run into this kind of problem yet, I highly recommend you first try the help of the community in the forum. Just make a post a bout it and maybe someone will help you: groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/natron-vfx If that does not help, try reporting it as a bug: github.com/MrKepzie/Natron/issues De developers sometimes answer really fast and they always do their best to help us when they can. Hi Chander, this is a very cool tutorial. Congratulations! I am a LInux( Debian, Ubuntu studio ) user, and I was using Blender for that kind of compositions. But, I have one doubt: In Blender I have a Proxy option generating jpg images; but in Natron I've enabled the proxy and defined a path to it in video options.. I think it did not work. It really works?
@chanruzzi9 жыл бұрын
ricardo graça Hi Ricardo, thank you your feedback! I'm sorry if I'm guessing this wrong but aren't you Brazilian? I'll just answer as you asked (English) for global communication purposes LOL! Haha. Yep, we have that option in Blender and there's a lot of people asking me about this functionality in Natron. Sometimes it really does not work. I simply don't know enough about this yet so I can teach everyone, but I'll definitely look into it. The Cache node works fine for me most of the times. Love your work BTW, keep it up!
9 жыл бұрын
Chander Ruzzi Tutorials Hey! What a mess I am talking to you in English! .. ok, for "global communication purposes". I've tried to create ( using kdenlive ) a low resolution video, and indicated as the proxy inside Natron. It works, but it is not the best way, I think. Yes, the cache node works! You have a great and incredible work too! Following you to learn more and more.. Keep going!!
@chanruzzi9 жыл бұрын
ricardo graça Hey, don't worry, no mess at all. It's good so everyone can read our experience about this. Yep this low res proxy technique is really good. For a lot of softwares I mean. I do this for Blender, Kdenlive, even HitFilm 3 Pro. Afterwards we just have to switch back to the original footage at the and, before rendering the final compositing. About doing this in Natron, it may be good if your not doing some detailed work. If so, your good to go. But if you're working on complicated detailed shots, my tip is to take the time and wait for Natron to cache your original and High res footage. Happy to know the cache node worked for you. Thanks for the kind words! Sinta-se livre pra entrar em contato comigo pelo G+ ou skype (chander.ruzzi) sempre que quiser. Gosto muito das suas iniciativas! Thanks for the feedback :)

Hi Chander, Thanks for this basic 00 tut as I start using this Natron soft. The vignette is just pronounced as is. What I wanted to know is: when I import a video in the node graph, in the viewer the timeline shows the quantity of images, a green line under it but the first times the video is played, the video is not playing smoothly. It takes a second play before the video runs smooth? Why is that? The desktop I use has a intel i7 6700K CPU, 16GB RAM, a Nvidia GTX970 GPU but in this case, the videos are parked on an external HD (not an SSD). Does the soft have trouble reading for an HD and does better with an SSD? So I tested importing an .avi from the SSD but the image remains "black" coupled to the viewer? The soft is the latest version available (2017). I appreciate news. Thanks. Collectoroffrance

@chanruzzi10 жыл бұрын
WAL-C The first time Natron runs a footage, it loads so it can be cached. After that, it's supposed to run real time. If you alter something, like the resolution on the viewer or if you add some nodes or if you clear de caches, Natron will load again. You can know what's cached by looking at the green line that grows on the timeline. About the audio thing, as far as I know there's still no audio integration, (there's a chance I'm wrong about this as I didn't searched enough yet) because Natron is a video compositing software. Most of compositing artists prefer to take care of audio in a DAWs or even on editing softwares.

I envy the stability your Natron has. I just cannot get my copy to complete a render without running out of memory and aborting the render or the program all together. I'm sure there's a setting I've got wrong or something, but they all seem correct.
@chanruzzi9 жыл бұрын
Isaac Gallegos Hi, thanks for the feedback! Do your workstation has all the system requirements? You can check it right here at the end of the page: natron.inria.fr/install/ I know some people who had specific problems by not having enough ram memory and "OpenGL 2.0 or OpenGL 1.5 with extensions".. About settings, if your system and Computer is working fine and with all the requirements, Natron should work right out of the box. You can find the version I'm using on this page: natron.inria.fr/snapshots/ Hope it helps :)

is it normal for the framerate to be quite low when previewing playback the first time? I've only really worked with sony vegas before, and it had a preview window that worked much faster (ie ran in real-time at full speed when not using any intensive effects). Am I misunderstanding something fundamentally different between natron and something like sony vegas? or is there some way to get a quick preview?
@chanruzzi9 жыл бұрын
Hi Ringating. The thing is: Sony Vegas is a video editor and it's main focus is on fast preview of the input videos, regardless of the format/extension. If you only make cuts and simple transitions, Vegas will keep up with your editing speed. If you start creating or stacking effects, it will slow down your preview. It's the same for almost all video editing softwares, unless you use one compatible with GPU and you have a nice GPU on your machine. Natron is not a video editor. It's mainly made for heavy and detailed compositing, animating, rotoscoping, color correction and grading, and so on. So Natron has to precache your work everytime you make a change in order to display it the proper way with the resolution you choose to preview it, so it's a different system compared to Softwares that are made for editing and have a few effects just to make life easyer. Hope it helps.

Yeah the memory problems are currently a great downside for Natron. It happens to me often and I'm still experimenting different memory settings to see what works best. So far setting that seems to work best is 50 to 60% of Ram for the software and 30% for the system. Unfortunately I don't have experience with Autodesk Smoke/Flame. I could compare it with Fusion, but I don't see enough utility on doing this, as Natron is still a child (a very promising one) but yet a child compared to all the years of Fusion's development. I imagine that Natron soon with have most of the features all this softwares does, so It's worth waiting a little while. Thanks for commenting.

I agree with blenders compositor lacking in the playback area, but you do NOT have to render. YOu can always imort the sequence to the vse, diiasable opnegl preview to get the result from the compositor and then ram preview to video. I have a video tuorial about that on my channel. But still natrons preview is much faster. On the downside, i have found that natron accepts far less videos than blender.
@chanruzzi10 жыл бұрын
Yes, you're right about having the option to import to VSE. But the render time is the same if you want to view it at full res, be it importing to VSE or rendering out the sequence. About the video formats in Natron, the software is pretty new so it lacks a few things yet but still it is evolving really fast. You won a subscriber BTW :)
@KApocalypse10 жыл бұрын
Chander Ruzzi Tutorials glad you like my tutorials. I really enjoyed the short clips on you main channel as well. On topic: I feel RAM Preview in the VSE is a bit faster because there are no disk writes (they can add up when rendering image sequences) or video encoding. But in anyway NAtron is massively faster and much more convenient to work with. The Transform node has a nice handlöe to move around the image and stuff like that. No doubt blender and natron combined can make for a pretty effective duo

@@chanruzzi make a simple and basics tutorials - for 'Natron' because 'blender' has a very large tutorials & community *one simple tutorial at week best than advanced tutorial at year* The Continuity is everything *Keep Going* OpenSource Guy 😉

You're right about this..still I'm seriously considering making tutos focusing on Motion Graphics with Blackmagic Fusion instead of Natron. Natron is very promising but it has a very limited curve editor, it still does not have at least 2.5D and any sort particle simulator and it's development is paused for now. 😕

@@chanruzzi what about *DaVinci Resolve 15* ?

Fusion inside Davinci Resolve on Linux isn't very stable..it is difficult to install and it crashes a lot even when installed correctly. Fusion Standalone on the other hand is easy to install, run with more hardware and is Rock solid stable.

I do not want to criticize Natron but when I put it I found a lot of mistakes. It's a good piece of software that has to improve and go a long way for now. It's useless. We have to make many improvements to version 2.3.14. I followed your guide, I found problems with the software. I uninstalled. Thank you. Sorry for my incorrect English, I used google translate. Am italian.

Hi @resko83. I totally understand the frustration.The good news is that we now have its new 2.3.15 version and it should be way more stable. Please check the description of this video for more info. No need for apologies, I'm Brazilian and I make lots of English mistakes even to this day.

omg.... your screen is too big.. i can't see anything :(
@chanruzzi9 жыл бұрын
Nape Lazam I'm sorry.....I guess? I thought a big screen that would fit more content into it would help people that watches this tutos. I can't not promise anything but sometimes I'll record in 1080p (FullHD) and sometimes in this res (2560 x 1080). The only tip I can give you is to watch in 1440p, so the definition it's right! Thanks for the feedback.
@bestboy0079 жыл бұрын
if the watcher has a small screen it isn't delicious ^:D

Nape Lazam Oh, I see, you may be right about this. I'll keep an eye if I'll have more feedback like yours. I guess I'll have no problem switching back to normal 1080p if this becomes really necessary! Thanks for sharing your experience. :)

Chander Ruzzi Tutorials I have to agree with Nape Lazam . I feel 1920*1080 would suit more people (A few years later though, everyone might buy even huger screens). And the tutorials are very very helpful. Simple and easy to follow. Thanks!

shaheen sheriff I appreciate the feedback! I'm already considering coming back to 1920x1080p. I certainly will do it If I keep receiving comments like yours and Nape Lazam . It's even easier to record and edit :D I'm glad it was helpful, thanks again!
