Nature is brutal and sometime live feeding is needed. However, we have a way to humanely kill food before it gets fed. Like the gator... You know darn well that gator would have happily eaten those animals if they were dead already! It's our responsibility as the human to make sure none of the animals suffer needlessly.

For example, the Mink Man does live hunts ... but it's mostly a fair fight. He has his minks hunt for muskrats and rats (invasive species and destroying the ecosystem) in a natural setting. It's a real predator / prey setting without any confinements. The prey has the opportunity to escape. And it takes hours for the mink man to get a successful or unsuccessful hunt. That's fair game. However, I don't see any reason to video a live bunny being eaten by a gator in a incredibly confined space. That's needless cruelty for clicks. Do it off camera if the animal won't eat dead meat.

Agree with Piteus, nature is brutal but if we had to kill an animal, the most humane way the best way. When we trapped rats around the house and had to kill them…we let it go in an open field and let my dogs kills them. I found this was the quickest way to kill them. It’s only takes a second. The other suggestion we had was horrendous to us…drown, use hot water, whack, poison ….ugggh. Of course keeping cats…got rid most of my rats problem. 😆😆😆

No it is not in the majority of cases… somehow in the US you have 98% of live fed reptiles in captivity…. And why is that? Cause you neglect to teach your reptiles f/t feeding even though it’s safer and less cruel for everyone involved… there is no need to feed a CB reptile live in fact here (uk, Europe in general), we don’t do that, we’ll instead analyse why our snake won’t eat atm instead of throwing things at it

I hate live feeding videos. They promote the stereotype that all reptile keepers want is watch rodents die. I'm tired of getting looked at like a dangerous deviant when I tell people I have pet reptiles. I wish KZbin would ban live feeding videos entirely. There is no educational value in them, only sadism and cruelty.

@@rosyclown I would have to disagree and say the opposite is true. Most people don't think people with pet snakes worship Satan, though I'm sure some of the more religiously zealous believe that. Far more often they just think snake keepers like watching mice die. Snake keepers are viewed as deviants or juvenile delinquents. I remember the looks my relative gave me when I said I wanted a pet snake. One of my aunts even pulled my mother aside and told her to keep an eye on her cats around me because she thought I wanted to watch something cute and furry suffer. The stigma has to do with live feeding rather than assumptions of Devil worship.

they'd have to ban NERD then too, because they live fed a king cobra that took a very long time for the snake they fed to it to die, they made the same justification but tried to moral grandstand by saying "we're live feeding, but we don't like it" It's pure hypocrisy. They've said they have to live feed some snakes, because they won't eat frozen thawed... they just don't "record it" as if though that changes anything.

The first is an unpleasant necessity engaged in to prevent the animal you're caring for from starving to death. The second is cruelty merely for your own amusement. There is no reason other than sadism to live feed if your pet will take pre-killed food. Live feeding videos only make the reptile keeping community look bad. We get enough bad publicity as it is without providing more material ourselves.

I love hearing Kevin educate us about what can be improved in animal husbandry and share genuinely interesting and educational content. I honestly think it's by far the other way around. What the reptile community does by sharing live fed videos is doing a disservice to the profession. I've said it time and time again. If you get off from watching animals suffer you shouldn't own any animals. I get it. It happens in nature but it's one thing to film feeding habits out in nature and throwing a live rabbit to a gator in your living room. I just love the excuse "well my gator won't eat f/t" yeah ok 👌. You have let someone who is an outsider to this community come in and basically railroad the content to something completely unrelated all for the sake of growing the channel. A few years ago I was upset and had a bad image of snakes because of a GIF that people posted of a large snake (burm / retic / anaconda, etc.) eating a puppy. Now that I own snakes of my own I really respect the work Kevin, Donny, and NERD are doing. I used to have pet rats so I think it is the proper thing to do to respect the lives of all creatures even if they are prey for another animal we keep as pets.

@@Melane89 totally, I don't have the room currently to keep rodents in an efficient way, and I am fortunate enough that I have a small collection of snakes that are all eating F/T. I hope I can be so lucky for it to always be that way, but I know eventually there are some individuals that will only eat live. I also don't have the tools or will to euthanize rodents myself, although I know it is more economic once you reach a certain amount of snakes.

I do not agree with putting videos of animals killing other animals outside of something like Nat Geo. What I said has nothing to do with what some other person post onto KZbin. It was about the constant behavior of Donnie. With all of the negativity Donnie is making it so others will not hear the message of conservation. He makes it so I would not send my children to this channel to learn about reptiles. Leaders build/lift others up and I would consider Kevin to be a leader in the reptile community. From a leader I would expect the higher road to be taken and not let something outside of oneself (words of others) upset them to posting something like this. We lead by example! A quick way to figure out what kind a person someone is - ask them a question about others. Is their answer going to be positive or negative? It shows us where they live internally. Negativity and talking poorly about others destroys one authority and turns people off. It is opposite of being a role model.

yes, but that video was mainly "educational" and to show what happens when something is envenomated etc. Also the countless number of warnings and saying "please don't feed live, always feed frozen etc" was pointed out through the video. Let’s break this down easy for the people who didn’t get it. 1. Kevin doesn’t care about likes. He cares about animals. All animals. 2. Feeding live is necessary in some cases and ok. 3. Having respect for all animals even live prey is the right thing to do. 4. Feeding live pets and watching them be tortured to death in the process for likes and therefore money is never okay. Let’s see - in the wild it happens every day. I have absolutely no issue feeding any animal I take responsibility of the necessary requirement it needs to be healthy. This being said, I have spent 49 of my 61 years trying to be an ambassador for reptiles. Showing anything that causes fear negativity sensationalism or gives fuel to animal rights groups and legislators is wrong. I wish you guys (Donny) would make a separate channel for stuff like this. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad you are bringing light to some of the more fucked up things going on in the hobby but man I miss the simpler days when it was just Kevin filming stuff on his phone. He would touch subjects like these without making it a huge spectacle and witch hunt each time.. I wish Donny would step back and just go back to being a cameraman or make his own channel. The way he presents stuff just leaves a really bad aftertaste. I'm also getting really tired of how he is playing down what he said like with the cobra content stuff. If I had been in Chandler's shoes I would've taken it the exact same way as he had. If you really want to touch subjects like these there's a way you can do that without specifically going after a 24 year old guy who's grandfather and dog just died and who's busy 24/7 trying to get his property built while also uploading and editing videos by himself. I really don't blame him not wanting to talk to Kevin after how much Donny has made a circus out of this channel. It really hurts me unsubscribing because this video does touch some important issues just the way its presented is so juvenile and tasteless.

The deeper I get into this hobby as a strict amateur, but professional conservation biologist, the greater respect and appreciation I have for the likes of Kevin, Clint’s Reptiles and Snake Discovery. I started off with reptiles from Chandler’s King Cobra ‘Kevin’ and graduated quickly to the other names once I realized how deeply affectionate and knowledgeable they were. Especially how much I learned from Kevin and king cobras vs CWL. Absolute authorities for reptilian respect, understanding, and kindness to all living beings. Don’t think I haven’t seen your box turtle projects Kevin. I get emotional about these issues too. Captive, feeders, or wild, all deserve respect. We’re such small, albeit destructive, players in the greater complex web of nature. It’s the least we can do. Stay golden. You’re a gem 💎 ❤️

People who say this is just “drama”. No. The issues they are bringing up are going to effect me, as a Florida venomous and exotic keeper. I have had many of my snakes longer than I’ve had my adult children. The idea of losing the right to keep them is terrifying. The amount of laws that are changing in the recent years, directly correlated with the boom in venomous and exotic keepers making extreme KZbin channels. They’re putting it into the faces of every person, and if they’re not putting it out there in a professional responsible way. In turn it’s making The average unknowing person, someone who might be neighbors with one of us, believe that they’re gonna have to worry about all the stuff they’re seeing. I’ve been keeping venomous for 24 years, and I’ve never had an escape or a bite. My neighbors would never know I had these animals, but now I have to be worried about keeping them.
