I don’t think she is making anything worse. Don’t try to defend this. I’ve had animals that required live feedings, I’ve had animals that refused frozen/thawed but would eat freshly dispatched. So I dispatched. It’s one side showing that. The reality of trying to care for these animals. There’s nothing educational about the pain being inflicted in these videos.

I couldn't even watch this video let alone watching someone who actually does it. I can't. I had a hard time feeding my bearded dragon a frozen/thawed pinkie. I got over it because she needed it for health reasons - at least that's what the Vet told me. I understand that some snakes have a hard time unless they're fed live feeders. Those same feeders can hurt or even kill the snakes. Yeah... no. I would never by from or support what looks to me more like a blood sport fir entertainment. Not necessity. I didn't make 3 minutes.

As a former Zookeeper, Animal Control Officer (et al) there are laws that prohibit such activities...!!!...I am astounded that these people have not been brought up on charges...!!!...Yes, some animals (IN NATURE) eat (rather savagely) their prey species...THIS IS NOT... a necessary aspect of their existing nor good husbandry. It can also lead to overly aggressive baseline ethologies within captive (and often board) animals including reptiles...Thanks to NERD for making this a topic of discussion and something to bring to an end on KZbin!!!

I prefer that last time he found a hopper mouse in the house he brought it to me and gently placed it down and looked at me with a worried expression. But... There are actually adoption places now that make their processes really hard and even want to view your set up for an animal before adoption now. At the time it bothered me because my pet was showing signs of loneliness and needed companionship, but when i see things like this i'm grateful some places are vetting potential owners now. Imagine being surrendered only to be possibly put in that situation by someone going around picking up free to good home pets.. That's cruddiest hand to be dealt in life. If we can feed our reptiles without feeding live we should take that option EVERY single time. Live feeding should be used as a last option. I adopted several guinea pigs from owners who didn´t want them or could not keep them anymore for this reason. Reptile owners are notorious for browsing ads and taking unwanted pets to feed them to their predatory animals. There was even a psychopath mentioned on Guinea Lynx who took a piggy from one woman who wanted to rehome it as a pet to a good home, he promised the piggy would be beloved pet, then he fed it to a snake, filmed it and sent the video to the woman.

@@aliciacoble7854 For the most part live feedings aren't, there are rare cases where they are necessary due to the animal being unwilling to eat any other way, which is unfortunate but it happens, then what comes into play is how you deal with the situation, the feeder animal in question needs proper respect for this to work, or it comes off heavily as animal cruelty or that someone is doing it for entertainment. People need to be very careful in these situations in general.

The big difference in live feedings and an animal eatting something alive is usually when they eat live, they are in their own environment! The animal has to seek out their pray, not torture an animal because it's trapped in four walls and can't escape. Ugh this disgusting and irritates me! Yes the animals have to eat but not for entertainment nor an animal suffering. That goes both ways! Rats, mice, rabbits or guinea pigs can tear reptiles up just as easy. Torturing animals is Wrong! I cried most this video. I Live feed my neighbors 10 ft Anaconda but it won't eat any other way. My neighbor recently had an accident and lost use of one arm temporarily and doesn't feel comfortable enough to control the snake with one hand. So I help take care of his snake for him. Caring for any animal means you provide the most humane circumstances for them. This includes the feeders we use. Even though insects don't have complex nervous systems, I still try to feed them or dispatch them in the quickest way possible. There's a thing called a clean kill. Nature is brutal, and in captivity, things don't have to be. That's the point.

I had a python that would only eat fresh killed, so I learned how the reptile store did it, and I built the rig. I don't like feeding live unless I have to. My current ball will eat FT, so that makes it much easier.

I wish I could do so much more. I worked in rescue, I have seen animals suffer at the hands of people. Mostly pitbulls. People who torture animals for fun aren't human.

I own a mangrove snake, feeding it freeze/thawed mice and sometimes a chick. That's ethical and right for a pet (especially since mine isn't an import but captive bred). You however stop it from having that freedom, that natural selection process. The least you could do is let it avoid the suffering before you force it to die. I say this because they do a great job at keeping your reptile for as many nights as you want and they change their diets. It will cost you some money but not a very high amount.

SO fucked up. Expose them all. When I was shopping at expo's for a ball python, I asked every vendor how they feed. If they said live I just said ok and walked away. The excuses. If you have too many animals to feed humanely (not to mention safely for the reptile) then you have too many animals. Period. I was only willing to get a pet I knew I could feed ethically. It's crucial to ask that shit and demand good care from sellers. I scroll past live feeders on MM all the time. I've had pet rats. They're smart, funny, affectionate little buddies. basically dogs with a heartbreakingly short life span. Every time I thaw one for my BP I thank it. Like even if you don't wanna do f/t you can have a colony and do fresh killed with a humane method. Thanks for saying this. I’ve mentioned this in a few replies, but I’ve had baby snakes that would only accept live food. Others that would only accept freshly dispatched. I didn’t enjoy feeding live, or dispatching. It’s not cool, and it’s a last resort. And a humanely dispatched feeder (whether fresh or frozen) will not be able to harm one of their pets. But this is basically dog or cock fighting.

The cO2 gas kills them by putting them to sleep. They don't suffer. Getting squeezed to death is a lot worse, plus the terror involved in being trapped and hunted by the snake. With the gas they just go to sleep and never wake up.

In my time of owning the five ball pythons I have, I have only ever had to resort to feeding a live rodent ONCE. When I did feed a live rodent to one of my snakes, I cried. My fiance couldn't even watch it happen. Live feeding should only be a last resort to get your snake to eat. I was also nervous about the fact that he might end up favouring live over frozen thawed after feeding him one live rodent, thankfully he went right back to eating frozen thawed the following week. Feeding live animals to another shouldn't be a fucking spectacle for people. That animal is a life, and it shouldn't be killed and filmed for some sickos with no regard for living creatures. The second I saw the footage of the live leopard gecko being fed to that Tegu, I was FURIOUS! That pathetic excuse of a man should be put in jail. Makes everyone in the reptile hobby look like we are just keeping these animals to fulfill some sick twisted fetish of killing animals for views.
