Hey Chandler, it's best to lay out lines at a black heat. That allows you to see precisely where your chisel is. Then, when it comes out of the fire, you don't have to waste any time trying to find the centre and to keep from burning your hand! I really appreciate your efforts to consistently try new things. Keep forging! We're all pulling for you. Merry Christmas!

Awesome project! I would diffidently put a candle wax pan in the middle. It would add support weight mainly and then it could stay in place year round. Great video. Thanks for posting!!

Both projects were awesome. Not perfect, but that's how we learn to fix the flaws. And like you say lots of people like those because you don't want perfection. Thanks Chandler for the videos. Happy hammering!

Another marketing idea: sell that as a purse hanger during the non-holiday season and market the hole as a place to place car keys/phone so that they are easily accessible!!!! Pretty sure you could sell that to make them worth your time! Happy to see you working hard and putting that problem solving brain of yours to good use! :)

Hey, that's a really clever idea! I've seen shiny brass mantlepiece hooks for holiday stockings, but they always look flimsy, and not heavy enough to hold the load. An honest iron railroad spike goes better with an old fireplace anyway. (And Santa's not going to put a lump of coal in your stocking, because you've got plenty of coal already.)
@andrewsmith16068 жыл бұрын
I'm in the rustic club, think it looks great. Would be nice addition to the mantle "for sure". It reminds me of the old English pub fireside furniture, chunky and beautifully functional. Great video, nice to see you up and at em Chandler :)

Hey Chandler, great idea, dig it. I would only change one thing, I would put a piece of thin flat stock across the bottom of the hole so when you set a candle in it, the candle will act as a weight to help hold the hook.

When my mom wants to hang stockings on the mantel, she just puts a nail in it, but our mantel is a 150 year old log from an old log cabin, so a nail hole here and there just gives it character.

Chandler This piece came out almost perfect,like you said a bit of practice and you would have it. Buy the way IMO it would help the end product by forging the 90 first as you noticed after the fact it may help keep all a bit more centered as far as the slitting you know as well as me punch al ost threw and flip it you should have a visual reference of the slit on the opposite side. You know like punching a hole same thing. But you know all this. Thanks for the great ideas so close to Christmas it is a grand group of ideas .Looking forward to the third idea . May be some sort of candel sconce or something for candles just an idea.Anyway keep up the good work. Sincerely, Martin and Shannon

Chandler, 1st, love the videos and the chats....please keep them coming! As for a way to even out the two "legs" of the circle, would it help to drill or punch holes at the to and bottom where you want to split, and then make your line between them? I also saw the comment about the round or pyramid mandrel...not sure if the holes would help, wondered what you thought, Sir! Also, as far as putting something in the circle, I know folks who love snow globes (though that would require finding a source for snow globes...though, I also believe if YOU set your mind to it, you could forge us one!) Thanks, man! You are always educational and inspirational!

i bet you could easily sell a set of four of those for $200 or so. you answered your own question about the split - an inch off the head would have made things easier. the other idea i had was to draw out the spike for the hook first, maybe try keeping it square and thin, then put a twist in it where it becomes the hook, and then drift the hole and finally put the 90 in it (or the 90 and then the hole, not really sure what would be easier) i think they'd look damn good in anyone's cabin, maybe try making a set of four for next year of you can bang them out in 30 minutes to an hour, that's not a bad time to income rate!
@rom655368 жыл бұрын
Make four of those and put them on a post, with some cool feet at the bottom of the post so the whole thing stands up, and you've got a coat rack that you can put a couple hundred dollar price tag on.

How difficult would it be to make a back scratcher out of a railroad spike? It would need to be about 18 to 20 inches from butt to toe and maybe have 3 scratching fingers curved toward the back to scratch with. Just trying to think of things that might be quickly and easily made from a spike. If you could only tease 12 inches out of the spike you could add a 6 to 8 inch wood handle on the end? Just a thought. Keep the great videos coming. Love them. Wish I was still young enough to make the anvil sing like you do. 8-)

A Totally Ordinary Aubergine that's a sore spot. It's basically impossible for Chandler to build, make videos AND run an online shop and manage sales and shipping.
