Chandu Champion movie review by Sucharita Tyagi - Cinematography by Sudeep Chatterjee’s is magnificent, Kartik Aaryan has never looked better. And not because he shed all the weight, the physical transformation was a choice the actor has made, one doubts if boxers and atheletes in the 60s had 8 pack abs. He LOOKS stunning because this transformation is lit and shot like a beast slowly taking shape. In the boxing ring, when anger fuels this young man, the light licks him like flames of a fire, sweat acting as petroleum igniting it further. When in a later mini-climax, he’s competitively swimming, each stroke is deliberately slowed down, each propel forward becoming the culmination of an earlier sub-plot that brought the athlete to this point. When he FIRST is recruited for the army, just happy to have a job and finally a community, the song Satyanash is shot like an out of control boy’s party. In its final frames the young recruits are on TOP of a moving train, silhouetted against a setting sun, stark in how skinny and child-like they look. You can make out their age, enthusiasm and hope, even when they appear as mere black outlines.

Chandu Champion is a 2024 Indian Hindi-language biographical sports drama film written and directed by Kabir Khan and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, under Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment. It stars Kartik Aaryan as India's first Paralympics gold medallist Murlikant Petkar.
Principal photography took place from July 2023 to January 2024 with filming held in London, Wai and Jammu and Kashmir. Chandu Champion was released on 14 June 2024.

It’s not a comment on anyone in particular but emotional and physical abuse around sports and sports players really needs to be addressed at some point. Slapping someone to build character or very loose definitions of ‘tough love’ just won’t cut it any longer.

What did you think about dangal? One particular scene always pricked me like fishbones in my throat, where they tried to justify phogats behaviour by contrasting it with the child bride scene. Felt like being told be thankful for your trauma, cos it can always be worse .

The scene in which his brother tells him that he won't be able to take him home.. Both of them portayed their emotions so beautifully.. I couldn't hold back my tears

The scene where murli talks to the Olympic committee, I cried there too. Also when he realizes his lower body has gotten paralysed, I couldn't hold back then as well. Loved this movie so much.

When to watch movie with low expectation, but Karthik has shined very well in this role. He has really worked hard for role and performing boxing scenes, unlike Jhanvi kapoor's performance in Mr&Mrs Mahi which we were below par in her cricket scenes.

Kartik Aaryan is cut out for the emotional - emotional anger, emotional love, emotional pain...one day a good script and a good director will give him the chance to shine from the beginning to the end of the movie, instead of giving us glimpses of him owning some scenes here and there. Kids behind us seemed to be enjoying a lot. No nonsense story, no disrespect, no unnecessary tamasha, here for the life lesson like Panchatantra. I am a fan of the outsider making his space in Bolly and I will follow this man's journey in the Cinema first weekend for as long as he makes movies.

I watched it for Kabir Khan. I am not able to tell if I like it or not. Something is missing. Kartik did well but not quite well. Kabir made it well but not quite well. I am not able to figure out what is missing.

The movie seems more like montages of Murli's life with not much detailing like why everyone laughed at him for dreaming big or how he was so good in everything he tried without putting much effort.

@@siyerinspire now that I have seen it again, I am sure it was Kartik. He may be a good actor but he lacks the charisma of a hero. He's probably fine as a jester, but doesn't fit in to carry a hero's journey.

What's really sad is that films like Animal will do 500 cr but a film like Satyaprem ki Katha will barely get a hit verdict, same is happening now with Chandu Champion. They will ignore the good films he does like they did with SSR and call him flop, average actor what not! Then if God forbid something happens they will blame it on nepotism. Talk about hypocrisy. Arrey agar apko outsider ko support Karna hai go watch the good work they do and make a good film a hit film, just sad.

Star kids are always hyped no matter what...I have been watching some videos that have the undertone that Ranbir is the only superstar of this gen and after him there won't be any... And I'm like Rajkumar Rao, Vicky Kaushal, Ranveer Singh, Karthik Aryan, who are they in that case? Also, I don't understand what they liked about Animal ...that movie is pertuating violence. I have students who come from remote regions of our country, areas rampant with violence. They watched the movie and they told me how they want to become like the character. They were like this world is corrupt and retaliation is the only answer. So yes it infuriates me that movies like Animal are given limelight and so called actors to make money portray such characters when most of the Indian audience is actually unable to seperate fiction from reality. So many of Ranbir's movies didn't work but yet he is still here and they call him "great actor" but those who are actually putting in the effort are pushed to the end of the spectrum. I wish our Indian audience wakes up and realises this before another Sushant Singh Rajput is crucified.

@@sadiashawana26 Animal was rotten puke. The worst of South Cinema adaptation. We have had the good tradition of angry young man archetype, even the Ram like ideal, always standing against evil in society. Never imagined an Amitabh Bacchan or a Sunny Deol being so diabolically insanely stupid like Ranbir in Animal was. Bollywood never used to promote uncouth rude behaviour from heroes. Making "rowdy" knuckle heads as heroes is a big downfall for Bollywood.

Went with low expectations..however this one has been a very memorable experience.. The kind of struggle the character faces to chase his dreams.. Karthik shines in this one and shows he is slated to be here for a really long long time..doing good roles . Thanks Sucharita.

@@SucharitaTyagi you have really come a long way. Have been following you since 2018 prolly. The graph of your growth has been exponential. Your reviews going from a mostly funny, performative, having zingers( down to your RJ experience and natural sense of humour)which were on the surface yet entertaining back in the day to a more insightful, more engaging review while still retaining the innocence( in the you had when you were younger) is commendable to say the least.

I think people are obsessed with one takes because they hear the word one take and their brain short circuits. I do like the fact that this movie felt more like Forrest Gump than the one we got. He even played table tennis

Love your reviews sucharita!!! Really miss the long reviews with rahul and others, especially now boys season 4 is out. Meanwhile can’t wait to see some of that New York magic.
