Absolutely beautiful. It seems like such a huge structure complex until you place the lego blocks next to it and it puts it all in great perspective. Thank you for sharing.
@peterstecks76603 жыл бұрын
Surely you realise that Michael makes his own Lego blocks, just to make the hotel look smaller... He starts off in Inkscape, prints off a Mega Lego Block on special paper, using an A3 printer, which he sticks to a box that the Weetabix packets come in, and then he applies two coats of matt varnish... Only kidding. It's a real Lego block. ...or is it ... 🤣😂🤣😂🤣

Congratulations Michael on the completion of your epic Hotel build. As always it looks stunning.... I'm just hoping that it isn't dwarfing the reduced height clock tower of your equally impressive railway station. Who needs a 3D printer, I too am a committed card and scalpel builder.
@Chandwell3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Paul! I did worry about that on and off too. The hotel's tower is 9 scale metres taller than the station tower, but it also stands on top of the retaining wall, so it's even taller than that. However, I think the hotel compliments the view superbly. I intentionally made the hotel a darker stone than the station and it therefore helps to lift the station and keep the clock tower the focal point somehow. More by luck than judgement, but it's all worked out well! Thank you for joining me on the journey! Michael

You have taken us on an excellent journey Michael. I am sure we all look forward to the next phase of Chandwell, wherever you take us. One point though, if I may. You have been producing these videos, not just the hotel, but the whole of Chandwell, virtually non stop for a long time now Michael. Isn't it time you took a short break to recharge your batteries? Huge congratulations on completion, as someone who has taken 10 months to finish a model about 1/20th of the size of this. I've felt a lot more confident taking a scalpel to things that aren't right after watching this series, and am determined to glue perfect 90 degree angles in future. One thing I'm curious about is how you avoid warping of the paper/card when it's glued together. I imagine the internet connection must be a big selling point for the Royal Scot!
@Chandwell3 жыл бұрын
Hahah yes, the Internet has not yet been invented but the Royal Scot has an AWESOME connection!! :) I have never suffered from warping card. I don't know how or why, so I can't really offer any advice. Where do you find it warps? Michael
@musosiimo31993 жыл бұрын
@@Chandwell It just sort of...bends. I've tried putting some very heavy books on top whilst it dries which helps a little. Maybe I'm using the wrong type of card which is too absorbant.
@michaelscott40173 жыл бұрын
@@musosiimo3199 maybe you add too much glue? I add it very thinly using a wiggly line from my fine tip applicator. The bead of glue is probably only half a millimetre wide and I leave a gal of maybe 10mm between wiggles. Once the surface texture is on, I then smooth it all over with my fingers or a wallpaper seam roller. This spreads the glue out under the paper… how are you applying the glue?

What you have accomplished is truly extraordinary, however, to me, the tower end of the hotel looks off-balance visually. I think this could be easily remedied by simply adding a small section of building out and over the network port (or a bit shy of extending that far), because otherwise, the profile of the building goes from the height of the tower all the way down to ground-level. It is a bit difficult to explain what I mean so I've drawn this mockup for you to consider (linked below). I'm sure you could think of something better along these lines. Once again, I would like to thank you for another thoroughly enjoyable video, and wish you and your family all the best. Cheers.

I wonder if Michael has more planned for the left side of the hotel. Not sure he will leave the garage wall exposed for long. The Chavs would 'perform their magic artwork' if he didn't... 😉 Anyway. Something Michael doesnt know is that there is a CPO served on the hotel complex, and it's due to be demolished in the New Year. I hear that it's not only cardstock and PVA holding up the fabric of the building, but asbestos has been found, I kid you not...🙄
