Change Oil on Jet Ski - Yamaha 2016 in the Water

It's a new Jet Ski so the Oil needs to be changed after Ten hours. So I pop it up on my Floating Dock and will walk you through the steps to quickly change the oil on this Yamaha Jet Ski 2016.

Thanks for the video. To avoid overfilling I always measure the amount of oil extracted then fill with the same amount, then run the engine on the hose for about 5 min, then check level when it’s warm. Also check oil level immediately after a day on the water ( before flushing )

I didn’t notice weather you pulled oil from the other extraction hose. (The one with the clamp attached to the rear of valve cover). I have found that I am able to get almost 3.5 quarts out when I draw oil from both places. Also I have found it less messy if I loosen the oil filter about 1 turn, then poke a hole in the top of filter to let it drain into engine first before I draw the oil out. Just my 2 cents worth. Also I believe the new oil should be added in 2 places.

Fill only to the low mark when cold! These engines have a dry sump and should only be mid range when hot.

I did my oil change like you did the first time I think you could have got more oil out of the smaller hose next to the oil filter. I have seen videos where you go from the oil reservoir like you did then suck oil out of the hose from the crankcase I was able to get out 3 quarts.

I have not changed my TR1 oil yet on my new EX but people are saying you only get 2 qts out from the dipstick only. At the very least you should measure what you remove and put in the same amount. As Mark mentioned the hose right above the oil filter can be used to get more out. EITHER WAY this is a dry sump motor and you MUST run the motor and check the oil immediately, because the pan (sump) is dry and the oil is in the oil reservoir. You will overfill it if you check it the way you did without running the motor first. That is my understanding but I'm still researching this motor.

Hi thanks for the video...I just purchased a 2016 VX cruiser...can you tell me the part number of the oil filter (both the Yamaha and the Wix you used)? I need to change mine but can't find the part # number in the manual; Google search comes up with too many different answers. Of course the filter in my waverunner has the number on it but it's facing the engine and I can't read it unless I take it off which I don't really want to do until I have the new filter. Thanks!

If you go to rivaracing dot com, you can pull up exploded parts diagrams by model and year. Click on OEM parts on the top menu bar and select the correct year and model from there. Filters are generally in the oil pump category. Keep in mind the 1.8L VX Cruiser HO and 1L VX Cruiser have different filters.

The video was ok, but I don't get why you would cheap out on the factory oil filter for a WIX. And to change your oil at around 100hr for second change is nuts. These are high RPM machines 50-60hrs is more like it. Note Yamaha offeres a lifetime warranty on the engines as long as you use Yamaha products, and follow maintenance schedule.
