Michael Knight reveals where his determination to not let any client fail comes from. At 36, living in denial and more than 100 lbs overweight, his heart was filled with fat and his blood pressure was soaring. After being given two years to live, he was forced to take back control.
Michael Knight has been known as the Michigan personal trainer to turn to when you're serious about getting in shape. His no nonsense "training camp" style keeps clients on track, but it's his personal triumph over obesity that keeps them coming back.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

He has a great story of overcoming adversity, but I don’t see how structure addresses the problem with resilience?

Basically, consistency is the key to all. You could be in the worst possible place. You could feel like you're the dumbest, ugliest, weakest, slowest person in the whole world. But if you turn up for yourself, every day, you will eventually overcome. So if he motivates you to start, you take the structure on board, that leads to consistent training and you get better. Once you start getting wins in the bank, it becomes a positive feedback loop. Even if you only get 1% better a day, that's 3.65 times better in a year from now. Most growth only happens at like 4% per quarter or maybe 10% per annum. Even if you get 1% better per month, that's still 120% better in ten years. Remembering: some people are rebuilding from the point of near death. To them, 1% per month is a good level of progress. This works for basically everything: physical/mental health, finance, career, education, relationships.

Its a great story, but i don't see how it translates to getting others to change, aside from inspiring them to change. I thought this was about the Change or Die book.

No one can be made to change... but if he inspires some people to change then that's a win. I feel it, he is intense, which i appreciate.(based on seeing some videos on his instagram) and that gets to me at least.
