Looks fantastic! I’m planning to re-do the wheels on 07 ML63 in this as the DYC obsidian black metallic I used came out more matte. This new paint seems to have the right amount of gloss. Thanks for posting and lookin forward to to see how your wheels come out before I move ahead.

Thanks Jay! I'm actually in the process of doing the wheels right now I'll try to post up a video of the result in the next few days. I may finish it off more satin for the look of the car. Unfortunately I didn't film during the process. I just added some 25mm spacers on the rear with the stock wheels and it really makes a big difference with the look.
@JaySquaredNY

@@philipsgarage looking forward to seeing the results! I only painted the spokes on mine, so the most difficult part was taping the wheel edge. DYC is pretty straightforward and, worst case, can easily wipe off excess and overspray. Ok, back to work lol

For the love of Peter Paul and Mary... Don't do Black wheels. Impossible to keep them clean!. What good is it to have a clean ride if the wheels stay dirty all the time. I'm gonna soon ditch my black wheels ASAP. Going to go back to polished aluminum. FANTASTIC job on the emblems, Great video.....Good job.

I actually agree with the comment about black wheels. I recently changed my wheels on my GS from black to silver/polished ones that I ceramic coated. Always looks so clean on them, much easier to keep clean. I guess it was a phase where I wanted black wheels on all of my cars.

I was doing it today. 90 degrees out. I did light coats and went a little heavier after. It has rust looking areas on the letters. Should I use sand paper with water to get it down. Frustrated. Using piano black.

Nice, I wonder if this would work on a chrome delete - do you think this is a good choice vs wrapping the chrome in black vinyl?
@philipsgarage
@philipsgarage 3 жыл бұрын
It would be perfect for the chrome delete. Vinyl wrapping trim can be tricky depending on what it is. It takes less time imo to just spray it with dip, and you can have cleaner edges. It depends on what you are doing, ideally you would remove the trim from the exterior with vinyl wrapping, but you don't need to do that if you dip it. You should mask off with some paper though around the trim you are dipping so you have less cleanup.

@@bellerive78660 I actually did both on my E550 Coupe's silver window trim. First I used a black satin vinyl tape (Avery) but still had to trim the excess. That's where my lack of experience and proper cutting tools showed itself lol. So I removed one side, used DYC and found the results were much better. Second side came out even better. As far as time savings, I would say the two processes are about the same. Taping everything before painting takes time. Also the wait time between coats adds time

So it peels off the paint so easy. What stops it coming off the lettering etc?
@b3nnyb3nny
@b3nnyb3nny 3 жыл бұрын
I keep running in to “pitting” issues from the application going on too heavy. But if I don’t apply heavy enough the surface has orange peel. Also because the gloss cans have a smaller spray nozzle, yeah easy to have your finger hang too far over the edge, causing the spitting you see on your first light dust coats
@philipsgarage
@philipsgarage 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah it can be tricky. Basically what I do is spray it back and forth in a area with the proper distance until I see it start to look wet and then I back off. You might try on a test piece in a small area the technique. After spraying back and forth a area, right after the orange peel look stops showing and turns gloss or wet you can wait to do the next coat. Its definitely a little different from how I've been used to on plastidip.

It will hold up perfectly fine. I've never had any issues with it peeling off as long as you do enough layers. Its very durable.

I want to do this to my Honda Accord emblems, chrome window trim, front grill, and wheels. Do you have a guess as to how many cans it would take?
@philipsgarage
@philipsgarage 3 жыл бұрын
I'd probably say 2-3 for the trim/emblems plus the wheel kit which includes 5 cans. 2 cans may be enough for the trim and emblems but its always better to have some extra while you are doing the project.

When I did my car I dang near masked off the entire thing for each section I was dipping. It's really not bad to rub off the overspray though. If you're super concerned you can use a bit of Goo-Gone on a microfiber.
