Stay off the curbs… problem solved. It’s the driver’s responsibility to stay on the track. If you make corners that can be cut, they will be. Drivers are going to be more willing to risk a penalty from NASCAR for cutting a corner than they are to risk penalty from damaging the race car. What’s the point of having a “racing surface” if you don’t have to stay on it? Drivers cutting the dogleg at Phoenix ( I think it’s ridiculous that NASCAR allows it) and don’t mind the jolt can’t very well complain about the jolt when they hit the curbing at a road course.
@BestGuy2103
@BestGuy2103 Ай бұрын

So, the problem with the bus stop is the G force from cutting the corner. So, nascar adds a bigger curb. They will still drive over it. Honestly, they should consider making the curb lower and embracing the cut or consider adding a tire wall to prevent the cut all together.

My problem with the change to the curbs is that it makes it more dangerous to run over them in order to try and eliminate the problem. Now, if you run over them to try and gain an edge, it might hurt more and cause drivers to experience more force than before. Instead of solving the problem, it seems like it's making it worse to try and deter it. I guess we'll have to see when they get to the Glen

I can see why Kyle is the one supporting the Watkins Glen change and those with no Cup Series experience don't see the point. Most other stock cars don't run very stiff setups, their construction isn't rock hard either, which we could see for years when drivers were jumping the curbs at Sonoma, for example... The Gen7 is unbelievably stiff, not only with its construction, but also the suspension setups teams use to maximize speed and get as much downforce as they can from the underbody. That's why Kyle feels like his brain is getting rattled around in his head over the curbs

I don't think it will happen plus for the next gen car I think it's because the tires don't absorb the bumps or jumps unlike what the Xfinity cars car the Arca cars can and the trucks and it's because of how much thicker the tires are the cup cars are basically using rubber bands as tires and it can't absorb even though it is wider but it doesn't help with that. I’m on board for the huge turtles at cup races. There used to be a lot more passing at road courses before they made all the cars the same, but there also used to be more passing at road courses when they didn’t have as much runoff. Back when they actually had to woah up and let off the throttle, just in case they weren’t gonna make the exit of a corner which gave chance for the guy behind to close in for the next braking zone, but this doesn’t happen bc they all blow the corner exit limits every road course they go to

This will sound harsh, but I don't actually care about the "lesser impact" standpoint of changing the busstop curbing, there are a dozen tracks where drivers experience peak Gs in the double digits every lap, that's nothing abnormal. What I do actually care about, is that they, seemingly, brought back the busstop in it's original design. It's designed to be a double S basically, but over the years, the curbs have gotten worn down and flattened so much, that the cars basically just go in a straight line. I'm glad that we will potentially see cars having to quickly navigate AROUND the corners instead of just blowing through them like they have in recent years.

Ya know something I got the thinking about with Cup drivers experiencing weird G-forces in weird points, it honestly has me thinking back to Group C sports cars in the 80s and early 90s when Toyota developed the TS010 which was the car Toyota built to comply with the 3.5L naturally aspirated engines to copy F1 at the time. If anyone knows the story of Group C you’d know how crazy of an era it became with the types of engines and how much power they produced and aerodynamics were being pushed until the FIA wanted them to run the same 3.5L engine rule in F1. Essentially Toyota’s TS010 produced too much downforce for its time, and during testing driver Andy Wallace went through a high speed corner and had enough Gs that a small bump was able to break his ribs. And this was after the car made its debut in the final round of what’s now the WEC in 1991 in preparation for the 1992 season. NASCAR has built a car from a form of motorsports with decades of technical learning experience and somehow managed to have a sports car style car that is in a way still decades behind. Definitely needed more testing for the car before actually being in a race. I think the problem was at the end of the Gen 6 era the fans weren’t gonna keep putting up with the boring 550 package, NASCAR and the fans wanted closer racing between the teams and drivers, trying to get costs down, and NASCAR wanting to get the car out before their 75th anniversary, but of course papa Rona pushed things back and NASCAR rushed the car out too soon and now in live action everyone is experiencing its strengths and flaws.
@polycube868
@polycube868 Ай бұрын
Gen 7 should have been delayed until the least 2023, it wasn't ready when they were testing it at Charlotte with 550 horsepower and drivers had to beg for more horsepower, it wasn't ready when Kurt Busch and Alex Bowman suffered concussions from ordinary looking crashes, it wasn't ready when they took it to Martinsville in April 2022 the first time and put on an uneventful boring race, in early races drivers got stuck, couldn't do burnouts to celebrate a win without needing towed back, I shutter to think how rushed it would have been had it came out in 2021 as scheduled, NASCAR should just gave it at least another year or 2 for further developments instead of rushing it, at least come out with a debugged gen 7.5 that keeps the basic tub of the car similar but actually fixes all rest of the problems.

With previous gen cars, Watkins glen required much slower speeds through the bus stop…yet some of the most exciting racing happened during this time. There was also more grass and less paved surfaces which made it more punishing for drivers if they got off course. I’m ok with Watkins Glen doing this, but the real change I want to see is less tire on the car/smaller brakes… having larger braking zones is what makes the cars slide all around, rather than the slot car road races we have today

Larson does have a pretty good point because I think about it as the next gen car doesn't feel well when the cars goes through bumps or jumps it a little bit even the smallest impact hurts. But if you notice what drivers said that they don't like the change one is from Arca and the other is from Xfinity what do they have in common thicker tires so it's not just the shocks and springs that absorbs it it's also the tires. The next gen car doesn't have thick tires now yes it's wider but that doesn't help the tires are basically like rubber bands or like when you see pick up trucks or cars with huge rims and a thin tires I'm sure most people in chat would say yeah it doesn't feel good going over speed bumps or curbs. I think that's why Larson said what he said

The biggest problem with Watkins Glen is the run off at T1 and out of the Carousel. Make drivers stay on the track and those with the talent will have the opportunity to shine. I would say look at the F1 Chinese GP, they added a strip of gravel about 6ft wide at the exit of the final turn. It kept drivers on the track and if drivers had an issue they still had the asphalt on the other side of the gravel to regain control of their car.

Love the classic Kellogg's #5 throwback! Easily one of the most iconic paint schemes! It's too bad they couldn't get Kellogg's to do a one off sponsorship for the race, but they did a nice job using the Hendrick Cars sponsorship! 👍 As for the kerbs at Watkins Glen... It doesn't look too bad? Like, it doesn't seem like they're as big as those turtles they've used at the Roval in the past. As long as they don't come up like what happened a few years ago at Indy and knock out half the field, I don't think it's going to hurt anything.

I say that if they don't want cars cutting that corner, just extend that wall to the curb and they won't have the option at all to cut it. IDK, just my opinion and thought of what they could do instead of the big ramps.

These always sound like a great idea and a deterrent to stop drivers cutting a course, yet they always hurt more when hit through a mistake or an incident. Sad to see these added

if they wanna reduce G's sue to the car being stiffer wouldn't NOT adding Giant Pyramids to the Track be a better solution? I'm no expert but adding a and bigger, taller curb would seem to make the impact more severe wouldn't it?

I never understood why they raised the curbing so high anyway when they knew the cars would go over it. Why dont they just lower curb and leave it, that will lower incidents plus will dramatically lower the G's as well

re: curbs. NASCAR drivers need walls to keep them on the track. Design a track surface, lines etc no use it. Use whatever it takes to keep them on the track surface and off the grass, dirt, etc. Heaven forbid they have to actually use the brake to slow down to manage a track surface properly. IMSA, yes.

The T. Lobonte scheme looking so good just reminds me once again that nobody at HMS cares enough to tell Rick that the Hedrick Cars scheme is as boring as plain cornflakes. I think the bane of Larsons career. God I wish they'd leave it like the anniversary car with the burgundy metallic and white, or make it metallic blue like Jr's National Guard for Pete sake.

At first I was a little annoyed at the change, but the reason is valid so it’s a good thing for safety!

The Larson throwback sure is pretty, Chase is running that Dale Jr throwback, I hope William Byron has something epic in store...same with Alex Bowman, should be a Jimmie Johnson 2006 livery.

I know why the heck they're adding that to that track there hasn't been a fatality since they changed it after JD McDuffie's fatal crash and the week before a what is now called a GTD car I believe Tommy Kendall wreck the week before and broke both his legs

have we not learned from sausage/turtle curbs? take it wrong and you send your car flying. try and avoid it, you risk wrecking someone else and letting a third driver sneak through. they should have made it a penalty system like cota, albeit more consistent with said penalties.

Can NASCAR consider using the LONG circuit for the race, more viewing area at the track, more skill required, better chances for good racing

Not the G-forces will even be made worse, by the drivers who will still hit the curbs inadvertently. Just rename "The Bus Stop" "CTE Corner"...or "Dain Bramage Berm".
