Interesting. I thought I'd seen about every set out there, but this is new to me. It makes sense and should work. Thanks for this Paul. Good Luck this season!

I’m thinking that setting this up near an old kill site might make it more workable. When scraps are scattered in an area (old bones and hide remnants) These areas are commonly revisited!

I bet it will work, and I saw the reel . That rawhide chew looks kinda funky flopping around. Thanks for Sharing this. 😊

Probable will work old set ,thats not legal in most states , is bone buried knuckle down so they have to use move there legs around to pull it out .

Old time coyote set similar with wired down piece of hide and a trap on each side. Caught a lot of coyotes over the years with this type of set

@tomkeltescheverythingoutdo2379Ай бұрын
That should work for coyotes I'd imagine. Just shrink the measurements a bit
@JohnnyRingo406TrapperАй бұрын
I was thinking of the same concept, but with deer/elk long bones. Fill em up with some goodies and see what happens.

Good idea 💡 👏... I also do something similar with leg bones I think I might rig the rawhide up and then soke the end in lure/bait before I head out to set traps 🤔 ... get that sent really infused into that rawhide Also has me thinking about a smaller version to hang up for bobcats, visual and sent both Thanks for the video and ideas (I'm in central MT)

Use the wolves habitat to catch it. This 9 back for coyotes or 20 for wolves is the main reason for misses. Think about how that wolf will walk around it before it gets close. Me I would set that trap about where you layed the hammer. I catch a lot of coyotes and Mexican wolfs with that trap 2 or 3 feet away from the bait hole. Thinking about how they will circle back and forth before they get close
@montanawolftrapper8666Ай бұрын
I agree 💯!! If I didn’t use the tape measure some one would have asked how far back lol. If you notice in the video I said I don’t use a tape measure
@Andrew-sandersАй бұрын
@@montanawolftrapper8666 ya I know why you used. I was just putting in another thought on a trap doesn't always need to be in from of your attraction. The one you set on the right I would have put where the hammer was and the other where you did bed the right trap. Over the years had started to set off to the right for canine's and left side for cats. Right beside a guide grass clump rock whatever

In your career, how many wolves have you been fortunate enough to catch?
@montanawolftrapper8666Ай бұрын
I’ve caught more then most less then some.
@anthonymason2186Ай бұрын
@@montanawolftrapper8666 fair enough. Was just curious. I’m a trapper as well. Was curious how successful you’re at it for them to get that smart
@montanawolftrapper8666Ай бұрын
@@anthonymason2186 I guess it’s how one measures success. For some getting out there and setting is successful, the next guy just wants to catch his first wolf. But some aren’t happy unless they tag out with 10. I’ve skinned my fair share of wolves and I’ve missed quite a few. Nature of the game.

So we all know k9s can smell food and stuff under a fair amount of cover, Think cadaver dogs can smell a body thats buried. So surely a wolf, being primal no1 can smell the fresh soil and possibility of the metal for the traps? Paul?
