I love that Google did this. But Samsung took it to another level with One UI and Good Lock. It does a great job of deep extraction of colors and allowing you to customize core apps on their UI. Then it takes liberties in other Samsung and Google apps.

You can actually kinda do it in some cases. On Windows you can select a folder of wallpapers that rotate every few hours (directly from the settings), and on the iPhone/iPad you can do the same with the Shortcuts app

@@thomasp__ True, but windows isn’t a mobile thing (aside from windows phones which I’ve never seen anyone use) and the iOS shortcuts/automations, while cool, aren’t designed for things like wallpapers and are complex to set up and give u a banner everytime it changes. I’ve tried lol

You have to go to screen time, then alerts I think, and then click on somewhere (I don't remember exactly where) and a button appears where you can turn notifications off but a big downside is that you have to do it again every time your phone restarts.

@@amritsingh4251 well that turns of the push notifs, but there’s still a banner at the top of the screen when a shortcut is completed that’s system level and can’t be turned off I’m pretty sure. Unless they’ve _finally_ removed that.

I use a parallax wallpaper, it shifts slightly when you move the phone and makes the icons pop. Google date and weather widget at the top, looks really clean. 5 icons across the bottom and Google search bar across the screen over icons.

I change my lock screen wallpaper every month. My home screen wallpaper gets changed whenever I find a new wallpaper or photo that catches my eye. That could be anywhere from a week to six months. It doesn't matter what type from abstract to 3D to photo of a person, place or thing.

Just use transparent iOS widgets to push the icons around. My iPhone has a full size clock and date on the top, a 2x4 group of apps on the right side, and the dock

@Cat Not on the pixel default launcher. It's stuck in the top corner. You can "disable" it but it literally stays there (it gets rid of the helpful AI stuff and keeps the date and weather) and there's no way to remove it entirely

My wallpaper rules are clean, minimal and amoled. Doesn't distract me, fits well with the dark mode and saves battery which is a nice bonus. The only time I had a red wallpaper was MKBHD icons. But later I changed it to MKBHD icons in grey

I use an app that changes my wallpaper every day out of a list of wallpapers I selected. It was every day, but I changed it to every 2 days. I had lots of wallpapers saved on my phone, but the one I had was too good and simple to change. I really do enjoy having a new wallpaper, and they all look good and are positioned to fit with my home screen because I picked them.

On my jailbroken iPhone i had a tweak that would change the wallpaper to the Album art of whatever song your listening too and it would basically do what android 12 is doing with grabbing the colors and putting that on your settings and anywhere else it can.

I never have the same Lock Screen as background. Agree with what they say about photos being useless behind apps, I usually always go for something abstract, minimal and black (sometimes likely coloured). Lock Screen can vary but is usually abstract, the occasional moody beautiful person lol

W10 picks just a single color and it's pretty easy to do. When you want to generate a color palette while maintaining the primary and complementary colors and at the same time making sure the palette gives a Pastel vibe, it's kinda hard to do for all the photos.

Windows 10 did that but they make us deep dive on File Explorer to set our wallpaper to Windows 10 stock wallpapers because they don't have the option in Settings.

PRO TIP: move all apps from the fist page on iphone to a new page at the end. Since the first page can never be deleted, this will create a blank page and you can fully see your wallpaper without any app icons blocking it.

Samsung has a feature called dynamic Lock Screen. Every time you turn your phone off. The Lock Screen will change picture depending on the category(food, dog, etc.)

My wallpaper rules are: It has to be a photo that I took, and as it is me who takes them, I can frame exactly the bottom apps, the top part with the clock and the notification bar, so it is actually not distracting at all and it doesn't need any blur or vignette to read the notifications. I would say I change it once a month.

With iOS 14 I just put a medium widget at the top of the screen that has the background of my wallpaper so I have a mostly blank space and I also have the date and any calendar events in that widget. It looks good but it’s unfortunate that you can’t just have transparent widgets since you have to get a screenshot of your wallpaper for it to work. I’m using the scriptable app with code for the widget someone made.

i've been using one photo from a manga I like (berserk) for years now. I had it on my One plus 3 for majority of the time I've had it and now with my pixel 3a currently for the time I've had it. Great manga panel but torture as a wallpaper. I don't know, I intentionally torture myself using it but I've just kept it as a tradition. The icons at the top of iPhones is really something that makes no sense considering how polished the rest of the OS is. I switched to an iPhone for the first time with the 12 and that thing hit so hard until I found this app called Yidget that lets you make a "transparent" widget. I used that to push my icons down to the bottom of the screen, leaving only two rows of icons and it's so much cleaner and easier to reach.
