Don't forget that Google partners Samsung on Android, that's why android feels a lot One UI-ish. Probably also why One UI gets features before it's implemented on Android.

Samsung probably collaborates with google to improve Androids feature but google has to wait X amount of years to role some features to other OEMs outside of Samsung.

Good move by Google. Its obvious that most people buy Samsung phones, they needed to have the defaults on that phone and the only reason to do that is to bend a little. All the other OEMs will get the features in the future (even the Pixel). Samsung has the pull to get the exclusives. They did the same thing with Wear OS. Samsung has a 1 year exclusive with the new Wear OS (Google did it so they would give up on Tizen), Samsung got the ability to reskin the messages app so they would get rid of Samsung own chat app. Google is slowly getting samsung to replace their most popular default's with Google's. The only way they could do that was to offer incentives. Good move all around.

Nowadays there are features from Samsung that get to Android later. I remember the multi-page screenshots that was missing in pure Android but we had it for years on Samsung. @pungkuss
@pungkuss 2 жыл бұрын
Its just new chip pains. I guarantee the issues with the Pixel is caused by the Tensor chip. There is a reason that all the software updates came last on the Pixels this year. Internally Google is struggling supporting the chip because outside of the ISP and the Tensor stuff, Samsung helped to build the chip. Samsung's support sucks compared to Qualcomm, thus Google's issues.

I don't have the issues that others had or have with their pixel 6. But I knew it would be a work in progress for Google to figure out all of the solutions. I agree that it is the tensor chip, but it is Google's first time to have a chip made to how they want it. Everytime they try something new it always throws a curve ball at them. I wished they kept the face unlock from the pixel 4xl. Amazingly fast and quite accurate. Didn't care to much for the soli radar but on long road trips I do miss being able to leave my hand to change songs. We'll see how this turns out for Google with the tensor. It would be better if they got the new Qualcomm snapdragon, but it's understandable for them to try.
@seanlinehan1136
@seanlinehan1136 2 жыл бұрын
@@pungkuss yeah I’m gonna say no. It’s not new chip pains bc it’s been a recurring issue with google for years. Battery issues. Software lag. Inadequate features backing up claims (when marques brought up the cool star feature I immediately thought of the Soli failure). Googles problem is they just don’t invest into their hardware and thus lack the integration capabilities of other companies like Samsung and apple who operate much better in house. The last time they were ahead of the pack was the pixel 2 xl and that was arguably bc the smartphone market was only in its middle years. Companies caught up and they just built a track record of failed and given up ventures like stadia or glass or soli etc

I debated whether to go with Pixel 6 Pro or S22 Ultra for about 2 weeks. I've been a loyal Pixel owner for nearly 6 years since gen 1. I preferred stock Android over the older Samsung skins and no bloatware. But most of all, the first to get updates and for the longest time. Well, almost all of that has changed, sadly for Google. Latest Samsung UI is great, better specs, a responsive finger print scanner, all had me ready to switch. What really sealed the deal, was Samsung's new promise of 4/5 years of updates. Sorry Google! Getting my Ultra delivered tomorrow.

Making the entire UI just smaller so it's harder to press something and still often can't reach the top end is stupid. One thing I appreciate a lot with Samsung and Google is their willingness to reach out to other companies in order to improve upon their own systems. I appreciate Samsung reaching out to Google to bring a more innovative OS experience, and I appreciate google looking at Samsung's popularity and saying Hey...lets do that too. Being the company that does everything can in a way distract from what makes the company good in the first place. Samsung makes amazing phones and tablets. They have proven to not be afraid to take risks to bring innovation to their devices. Google has made an amazing OS that honestly only gets better over time. Combining the two brings about amazing experiences for their consumers. Are they perfect? No. Do they make the right decisions all the time? No. However because of how they are approaching the development of their devices/systems, they are making strides and bring more innovative technology to the consumers. If Google is taking pointers from Samsung's features then great. Maybe it will turn out really well for pixel users in the long run. Should google who already made such an amazing OS be top dog with android phones...well in a way they already are. It is just more through Samsung android devices at this time than Google pixel devices. Google is still young compared to Samsung with mobile device development. However they have amazing capabilities in building the Android OS. I want to continue seeing what sort of innovative experiences both companies can bring.

To be fair, 4 year of OS upgrades tends to actualy be 3 years and a couple months. It depends on when the phone released. For example, the Z fold 4 has 4 years of OS upgrades, but it released with Android 12 around the same time Android 13 released. In reality, it's actually the same as the Pixel 7 which released with Android 13.

There are a lot more Samsung phones out in the wild compared to Pixel phones. Therefore, Google would prefer to roll out new features in Samsung phones for testing purposes. Because Google knows themselves that their new Pixel phones have bigger problems to solve first (I have a pixel 6 pro, experience is not so good).

Google made a good move here. It looks on the surface like they undercut themselves by adding features to Samsung first rather than their own Pixel, but Google still directly benefits from whoever is using their software, and the Galaxy lineup is now the most synonymous with the total Android experience. What's one thing that iOS offers that Android never has? Unity across devices. Every iOS device has iMessage, and Apple users are not by and large downloading alternative messaging apps because iMessage has it all, and it deepens the interactive messaging experience. It's more than just how you interact with your device... it's also about how you interact with OTHER devices. Android never had this, because everyone that put a skin on it had their own version of a messaging app. The old Samsung messenging app was terrible. It had no real power, made sharing media difficult, and was overall a terrible experience. Now Google is uniting Android devices by having a common messaging app that can behave like iMessage, while still allowing Samsung to put their own twist on it. My messaging experience has already dramatically improved with the new app, and it brings that unity of devices that usually attracts people to Apple over Android.

There is nothing wrong with samsung,s current messaging app. It,s simplistic, yet powerful and has RCS capability. The only hold out verizon have recently been speeding up the deployment of cross carrier RCS inside samsung messages. T mobile and AT&T already have RCS inside samsung messages. google seems to be gmailifying their messages app making it more complex and samsung seems to want to simplify google messages in galaxy devices. Samsung are skinning google messages in their own devices to simplify the experience. This is a current theme with all samsung apps. Simple and functional. Google apps on the other hand are complex.

Problem with the recent Pixel line ups are that they're sort of 1st gen device as lot of things Google tried new with Pixel 6 & 6 pro. Also it's well known how google rushed the launching of android 12 & new pixel devices. So it's just a matter of time, I'm sure google will be able to restrict all the bugs residing in recent Pixels. Lastly software experience is unmatchable in pixels, been using Pixel 4a since last year, & it's phenomenal.

I've said this so many times Samsung ( specifically S & Note series) users are kinda God amongst Android users. Marques has finally admitted how great One UI is. In my opinion Google is slowing down Samsung from compiting with Apple one a face to face because while Apple does both Hardware (Iphone) and software (IOS), Samsung makes great Phones but has to take what Google has to offer with each version of Android.
