My understanding is that if you take your stance and there is water visible around your shoes then you get relief from casual water (we have a lot of this in the Uk😂), sounds like the official gave you an unfair ruling, but still, three solid rounds of golf and a third place finish is excellent, well done and thanks for sharing your journey with us Gabby
@erichansen364110 ай бұрын
Not after you take a stance. The water has to be visible at the surface without any pressing of any king on the ground with the feet, hands, club head, or otherwise.
@Brainlesscheesy10 ай бұрын
@@erichansen3641 No that's not right. Temporary Water is defined as water that is not in a penalty area, and "can be seen before OR after the player takes a stance (without pressing down excessively with their feet)". Under Rule 16.1, free drop within 1 club length of the nearest point of relief, not nearer the hole. But it's NOT TW if it's just wet or muddy but the water cannot be seen.

Hardly anyone takes us through the ups and downs of the actual course. I even started telling myself I’m going to hit a great putt before I do and have had positive results LOL. Thanks Gabby!

Hey Gabby, it is your Las Vegas golf pro and big fan Tommy Sunshine. I played in many PGA Tour qualifiers, US Open qualifiers, and many USGA tournaments. There was always one specific thing about the Casual water rule. The rule was that if you stepped in and placed your weight normally to take your stance and water was seen up from the ground around your shoes you we're in casual water. Here is the part of the rule that got abused and they are careful not to allow it. You are not allowed to go into your stance and then place all your weight on one foot or push down into the ground by moving your body weight up and down trying to get water to come up. You literally have to take your stance and just stand there normally. If water was visible after you did that then you got relief from the casual water. I am sure, unfortunately, that the official you dealt with was not able to field questions about his ruling without taking it personally as an attack. I would at your next tournament ask if it's possible to get another official to be called to the scene if you disagree with a rules judgment. But here's the caveat to that action. If you are the only one involved in the ruling, unlike today, it means literally that you're going to stall your group for a long period of time while you and they wait for Another rules official to get there. You have to be mentally tough enough that you can't let that bother you! If you know you're right or have a good suspicion you are right, Don't cave in to pressure or talk from them and stand your ground. You're not out there at the tournament to make BFFs! You're there to play your best golf and show that you are a quality player and person. Every experience you encounter will help shape you as a person. Embrace hard moments... Luv your content always. When you have time,(U have no time,I get it) please look up a 16 year old like you named Lexi Booras. You liked my evaluation of your swing when you asked to be critiqued last time. I think you just looking at her action will help you down the road. Please check her out. You keep doing what you're doing, Gabby Girl.Your takent is truly abundant! Also, a big shout-out to your Mom and Dad for recognizing your passion, providing for your talent, sacrificing to see you glow, and knowing that they raised such a quality, beautiful person that you would make intelligent choices about how you proceed! I'm sure they are enormously proud as you should be also. Aloha

Outstanding Performance Gabby ❤T3 is amazing. Make a few mental notes for your future growth to the top of the leaderboard . -you now ,know that you are entitled to relief from the casual water. -you now ,know that you are entitled to a second opinion from a rules official when faced with a ruling that you don’t believe is accurate. -manage your food and beverage intake appropriately so you can manage your bathroom breaks. -don’t assume the result of a short putt, stick to your process and look at both sides of the 3’ putt and stick with your process, the result of it going in will look after itself…..as long as you stick to your process and routine. You verbalized to us that you couldn’t believe how much that 3’ putt broke , so the problem wasn’t your putt , it was a flaw in your process of sizing it up. These little mental notes are part of learning and growing and will help you get those fine details ironed out that will definitely help you climb to the top of the leaderboards in the future. You are competing at an elite level and doing outstanding! I Love watching your progress and success. Keep up the great work ,we are all cheering for you and proud of you ❤

I'm pretty sure that you are allowed to call for an alternate referee if you disagree with the decision. If that isn't possible, you can play two balls, one following the rules officials guidance and the the using your own interpretation. When you get back to the clubhouse, get the tournament director / senior rules official to decide on the offical final ruling before you sign your card.

Love your videos. You are an amazing golfer. Just an observation i've made watching your videos... The days that you struggle with putting are the days that you are wearing your glasses. Hi Gabby, I putt right hand low but I run my left forefinger vertically down my cupped right hand up against the second knuckle. That helps stabilize it. I also keep my left middle finger overlapped in the pinky-ring groove around the back of the right hand. This grip feels super comfortable to me. You can also flare out your left elbow a tad to prevent flipping. Less comfortable.

Gabby, I understand that you are worried about going back to right hand high and left hand low (or vice versa) putter grip and that you are concerned about one hand taking over because your stroke is handsy using small muscles of the hand instead of larger muscles of the shoulders. Have you tried an Arm Lock putter? or a regular putter with an extension and an Arm Lock grip installed? The only difference really is the addition of loft to the putter face. I stroke my longer putts right handed using a cross-hand grip like you have used in the recent past, but my shorter putts under 8 to 10 feet I use the Arm Lock putting technique or something similar putting with a left handed putter. What you do is brace the grip against the lead inner right forearm by pushing with the trailing hand (lower than the right) to keep the putter braced/locked against that lead right forearm. This will use the larger muscles of your shoulders instead of being handsy. Great for short putts under pressure. Check into at least. I find doing it left handed with a lefty putter feels much better than putting this way right handed. Your experience may differ. -- Eric
@erichansen364110 ай бұрын
Oh, as an alternative to putting left handed using Arm Lock against the right forearm, I discovered that some pros use that same grip for right handed putts with a right handed putter. Matt Kuchar to name one. So for both right and left handed putts/putters, you can try bracing the putter grip against the right forearm in both cases. Bracing against the right forearm for right handed putts with a right handed putter should put loft on the putter face naturally without any physical modification to the putter face loft by a golf club technician.

What is the definition of casual water in USGA? By definition, “casual water” is any temporary accumulation of water on the course that is not in a water hazard and is visible before or after the player takes his stance. You may play your ball as it lies or take free relief.

Best putting tip I've ever had and I always let people in on the secret if I see them missing putts under 5 feet. With right hand low and your index finger running down the back of the shaft but slightly bent, on the transition, E.G. at the top of the backswing increase the pressure on the tip of your finger as you putt through the ball, point your finger into the bottom of the hole. The results are miraculous You will hardly ever miss a short putt from under 6 feet.

Hi Gabby. It's my understanding that if there is a disagreement on something like this, you can play a second ball taking relief and then have the rules committee determine the correct interpretation. Sounds like this official was not following proper protocol. While he is a rules official, even they get things wrong and they should always be conservative and allow a second opinion. You showed real maturity in just moving on and addressing it after the round. Great tournament! Keep it up!

If it is casual water which means that spot is usually dry and your standing position is in water that is normally not there, you should be able to get a free drop no more than a club length away from the hazard. Thats my understanding anyway. But well done Gabby, three very decent rounds. Your attitude young lady is great and the fact you were able to move on and overcome the drama says a lot about how stable and how good a golfer you are. Awesome stuff Gabby. There are a few issues going on. A ball is only in temporary water if water is visible before or after the stance is taken. “It is not enough for the ground to be merely wet, muddy or soft or for the water to be MOMENTARILY VISIBLE as the player steps on the ground.” The other issue would be, if you were not CERTAIN it was in the penalty area or in the temporary water, you have to treat it as a lost ball.

My first time seeing Spicy Gabi come out!🤣😂🤣 I get it! I always wondered what do golfers do in the situation where you have to go to the bathroom but you're out on the corse in the middle of a game. Is there time outs? Seems like it would be awkward with everyone waiting on you. That would suck with no close bathrooms. Doing the "potty dance" the whole way, one could definitely tinkle on themselves.

I believe that you could have used rule 3-3 (may have the number wrong) and announce during play that you dispute the on course ruling or playing competitors ruling and want to finish the hole with 2 balls, using each rule and then seek a final decision at the end of the round to determine who was right and which score to use for that hole. My son encountered a rules official in a college competition in Canada and used this rule to end the on course dispute. At the end of the round the playing competitors and rules officials got together to go over the circumstances and a ruling was made as to which ball would be scored. That ruling number was what everyone was calling it that day. I believe they even had that on the rules sheet so players knew this was an option during play for disputes.
@wesleyhodge945710 ай бұрын
Very solid rounds Gabby, but I’ve come to expect nothing less from you now!! The ruling definitely seemed harsh to me, but I guess the lesson learned here is to ask for another rules official to determine\confirm if indeed it’s the correct one. I’m curious about your putting grip change, was that merely something you tried out in order to try and see if your putting got better or was there more too it? I’ve always putted right hand low and never been consistent so was going to adopt the cross putt grip going forward; I figured it couldn’t hurt 🤣🤣

Gabby, on casual water, just remember the water has to be visible. It doesn't count if you have to press with your shoes to make the water visible, which is often the case. I would feel confident saying without looking at the rule, that even pressing the ground lightly with a club head or hand to bring the appearance of water to the surface of the ground does not count as casual water. The water has to be visible without any pressing of any kind. Great 3-Day score!

Gabby love your true grit. Unfortunately in all sports, there are some officials involved for all the wrong reasons. They become an official solely for the moment they can access power. Of course, many times they also volunteer their time I suggest you know the rules better than the official. You play golf for your passion for the sport. Perhaps this official did you a favor, by highlighting what bad behavior looks like. In the future know what your rights are and get a 2nd opinion. Golf is a game based upon self-enforcement of the rules. You have every right to question a rules interpretation error. The game is played for the players, not the officials. Following the correct rules protects you and the rest of the field. I am proud of the way you handled it.

Sorry about the length of my comments below. One more thing you have a huge advantage that I didn't have when playing in tour qualifiers... Anytime there is a rules dispute take out your phone and videotape exactly what you do and exactly what I outlined about the Casual water rule! Or any ruling whether it's a boundary dispute etcetera. Get every good angle and they or you may be able to send that to a rules official and he can make a ruling without even coming out. On the PGA tour it is done all the time where they look at coverage from the broadcast truck to see where a ball cross the water hazard or where it may be lost in a hazard or where it may just be lost in rough Etc.
