I would definitely recommend keeping the 2 dishwashers. My parents had a restaurant and the temperature of the water in the dishwasher is really important. There’s no way that you can get sink water as hot as the dishwasher. Your dishes are not going to be as clean. With a big family, I think that this is a big consideration. You can also end up using more water by washing dishes by hand. Just something to consider!

Put up some 2x4’s and hang some sheetrock to enclose the loft. If you want to see into the living room install a window or barn door in the wall. Or put in an accordion door that opens if you want the loft overlook to remain as is. In my opinion, enclosing the room would be a great asset to the home. Lofts are a waste of enclosed space. Consider putting a 2nd door into the bathroom for access from another bedroom or from the hallway if possible.

I come from a family of Ten. Always washed dishes by hand. Always rinse your dishes well after use. Stack nice. And fill a sink with hot water and lots of soap. Alot of people have no idea how to wash dishes. I see people wash each dish under running water and never fill the sink with water. It is shocking to me. When I am cooking, I fill a sink of water and wash as I dirty dishes. Helps a ton. I have a large stainless rack and draining board. Best investment I ever made.

I always felt the dishes were not clean when they were hand-washed and to be honest you use more water hand washing than in the dishwasher. Microwave is another convenience that I like to have. Our microwave is new and has many new-fangled buttons that allow you to do lots of different types of cooking including convection.

Back in the mid-70's we lived on Okinawa, Japan. I was one of four children, and while we were there, my younger brother was adopted. We also had three extra girls living with us, for various reasons. That put 8 kids in a four bedroom house. My parents gave back the military issued beds, and bought us all futons (folded into thirds, no bedstead), and gave us each a blanket and pillow. We would get up in the morning, fold up the bed and blanket, and put the blanket and pillow on top of the folded bed. We had room to play and move and you had to clean up the floor in order to go to bed. Worked well for us. The neighbors who started with six and left with 12 kids had the bunkbed situation. (we all had the same house of course) It was totally cramped and hard to get and keep clean.

We stopped buying them because they would break every 18 months and it was $600-$800 every time and we would buy the special solutions and do our best to take care of them and they would still break. We of course always had soap and dish pads so now its completely normal for us to not have one. I've thought of taking out the dish washer and putting a beverage fridge in its place because for us that would more practical. #Teamnodishwasher

You have a very large family that will continue to grow when they have partners and kids one day! Just a Sunday lunch can easily be 20 people-assuming half the kids have partners and a couple have a friend over. And holidays if all the kids come back with partners and children.., oh boy lolol! Also, once you are older it will be harder to wash dishes and pots… I see my mom now who has arthritis and water makes her hand swell! She has a dishwasher-never uses it but we were a family of 4.. now they are 2. For parties I load it for her

Each to his own. Most of our almost 55 years of married life we've washed dishes by hand. As our kids were growing up in the Philippines and Colombia they learned to dry them and put them away. When they reached third grade they had learned to strike the matches, light the flame under the burners, heat the water, and pour it into the basin for washing the dishes. Yes, there was usually an adult handy for the smaller ones, but by the time they were grown they were very experienced. In the last few years we moved into a house with a dishwasher. I did not use it until many of the church ladies encouraged me to try. We now run it about once a week, and really enjoy it. We were one of the first families overseas to have a microwave. It was excellent for saving energy, and we all learned to cook all kinds of food in it--when we had electricity. I learned lots about complementary cooking--where preparing a dish would utilize the microwave for some steps and the stove for others. We still do this to the present day and I LOVE having my microwave right above my stove. I'm so glad you got to see Japan and brought home ideas. Different things work for different people. We only had four kids, so that was very different from you. Now we are two people, and different things work in different situations. I enjoyed watching this, though.

In my current kitchen and previous kitchen, I deliberately positioned the dishwasher at the end of a long counter so it was against the end wall with the sink beside it. In that location, there is never any reason to walk around the open door and, thus, no shin bumping. In both kitchens, there is a large window in the end wall only inches above the dishwasher. This floods the sink with sunlight, and I don't miss a window behind my sink at all. I'm now planning my next kitchen, and the dishwasher up against an end wall is my top priority.

We are a family of 8 and wanted to share what works for our dish washing system incase it can be helpful to you. My husband built our log home by himself so I was able to design our home to exactly fit our needs. We have 2 large black (looks streamlined and clean) utility sinks side by side. 1 is used to hand wash dishes after every meal and the other sink is used as a drying rack. I have a drying rack down inside the 2nd sink so once the dishes are cleaned, they are put down inside the sink/drying rack to drip dry, then put away for the next meal. Works wonderfully and you don’t ever have to stare at clean or dirty dishes because the sinks are so deep! I am also a minimalist so not having to stare at dishes all day makes my stress level lower!! Hope it helps you! God Bless you and your sweet family!! ❤️🙏❤️

We are a family of 8 and have chosen not to replace our dishwasher, been handwashing for several years. People act like I’m nuts!😂 There really is an assumption that the more people you have, the more helpful it is. Over the holidays we were in an air b&b with extended family and we were always waiting on the dishwasher. One tip- as you plan your new home, look for a double basin & double drainboard sink- vintage or a replica. It makes handwashing dishes, as well as washing garden produce etc so much nicer.

Something I really like with your family, even the size it is Sarah, is the fact that you use actual plates, not paper, paper, paper. Can I just say thank you for this. I was a large number of channels on KZbin and I'm sad to say that many many American families choose to constantly use paper plates even with small families, and those same people can't live without their dishwashers. Dont even get me started on the single use plastic and cling wrap....Again, thank you.

I always thought that by the time I loaded and unloaded the dishwasher I could wash them if I scraped and rinsed the plates immediately we finished our meal. Having a double sink with a draining board helps so much. I never replaced our dishwasher. As we were cooking we always had the sink full of soapy water ready for use and whilst eating our food we often soaked the cooking pots and trays which made them easier to wash.

Same here. It's just me and a dishwasher is a waste of energy and water for me. Mine probably doesn't work because I've never used it before.

I hate emptying the dishwasher!!! There were 6 of us, eventually plus wives and grands. My dishwasher broke 15 years ago and I never replaced it. 😂😂😂

Hi Sarah, yes my family and thousands here In Hawaii do have big families yet have never had a dishwasher like me growing up. many In Africa and Mexico don't either. We all was thought to wash what we used and when there's a party, we all helped. Having a dishwasher Is to easy and more of a luxury, but It doesn't teach kids how to keep a clean kitchen and home, It also shows on our electric bill. Moving into our new home, we went around our whole house changing out all the light bulbs, putting in all 40 watts light bulbs, even in lamps. It took my electric bill from one hundred and fifty-five dollars a month down to around eighty dollars a month. I also went to my hot water heater and turned It down two notches, so my gas bill went from ninety dollars to around forty dollars a month. I have been saving so much, my gas and electric bill Is no more than a hundred and thirty dollars a month or lower.. . TRY IT AND SEE HOW MUCH LOWER YOUR BILLS CAN GO ! ! !

With a family of 12...we very seldom had or used a dish washer. I detest them ! ( because you had to pre wash or still wash large things) ,we also quit using a dryer a long time ago. Microwaves are something we have on and off gone without. Reheating coffee is simply much easier in the microwave lol. Everything else is easy.

We just built a house and had two dishwashers installed. It is the best thing ever ever ever.

I agree to the dishwasher. 2 years out of not using the dishwasher. Microwave is a 5 percent use once we got the air fryer.
@bryantdlynn710 ай бұрын
Suggestion...take the door off the dishwasher. You can still use it as a drying rack but door won't be in your way. If you want it prettier or just hidden, get a curtain with a tension rod.

I love the bedroom switch and we also hand wash most of the dishes, it’s just me and the hubby now so it’s easier to just wash as we use 😊

We don’t use our dishwasher, can’t leave without a microwave & an air fryer, best invention next to instant pot. My sister lives in Tokyo & has a microwave that she cannot leave without, it just makes our lives easier reheating. ♥️your channel💐

One other thing, you will use more water hand washing than using the dishwasher. This is a proven fact. So it will raise your water bill doing without the washer. Hope this helps.

Except she said they are doing lots of dishes every day anyway. Same at my house. I was twice a day by hand, skillets, pots strainers cutting boards. My knives shouldn’t go in the dishwasher either

My father-in-law bought us an air fryer/toaster oven because we don’t use microwaves and he was going to be babysitting our children for a couple days didn’t want to be without something to reheat his food. We love it!❤

I LOVE that idea with the dishwasher. I've always just washed our dishes quickly in our small kitchen. A while ago, I downsized and everyone has a plate, salad plate and a bowl to use, and they're all different colors so everyone has a color, so we know who has not done their dishes. Since I didn't need that much space any longer, and my dishwasher did not face out of the kitchen where people could see it, we just took the door off and used it to store all the dishes. So when you washed them, they went into there to dry, and stacked so well. We took the door off so that mold didn't build up. It's gotten so easy!

Dishwasher runs of a night here and unstacked first thing of a morning. Hotter wash dissolves grease better and kills more germs in my opinion.

Hi Sarah.. FYI I have not had a microwave for 3 years.. if I need something heated I use my air fryer. I wash my dishes after every meal... mind you there is only me.. keep doing what you do I love your channel..

One thing I have always done is use my dishwasher as the drying rack, it gives me more counter space. I'm one of those people that don't mind washing dishes, so I've never used a dishwasher. Funny joke: growing up me and all my sibling (it was eight of us) we had to take turns washing dishes, I remember asking "mom when we getting a dishwasher" "you are my dishwashers" 🤣🤣🤣

Ditched the microwave 20 years ago except for heat packs. Have used my toaster oven for everything. So much healthier and usually the food tastes better, too. Definitely a good idea to choose a few mini casserole type dishes to use in it and small cookie sheet typw pan. Just one or two. I ditched our dishwasher several months ago when it broke and I did some serious research on them. The new eco-friendly ones appear to be very unhealthy. I won't use one after the research I did. and the research proving to be true when I found mold in my dishwasher because we won't use the chemical laden rinse aid. So disgusting and wrecking havoc on our health. Thought I was alone in the old school handwashing thing but I love it.

I agree I think kitchen stays cleaner when you handwashing dishes because usually you wipe off counter and stove sweep and mop floors , and I hate unloading dishwasher

You inspired me to hand wash my dishes just now. I don't think I could convince my husband to stop using the dishwasher all together, but we could certainly do a better job of washing dishes as we go through the day.
