I have the feeling that the changes are because many battleship or cruiser players don't know what to do against submarines. There are plenty of players who can easily catch you. What I miss as a sub is the opportunity to escape from the sensors, for example by being able to dive even deeper. OR move completely silently that they don't notice. Or you should be able to shoot off distractions so that they think you're broken. In any case, it now seems more like whining from players who just want to shoot battleships.

The way to make submarines more fun-for both sides- requires a bit of an overhaul but is pretty simple. Changes to Submarines 1. Remove homing from the torpedoes. This is the biggest thing, and how homing torpedoes even got into the design at all is very confusing, let alone became the standard armament on all submarines, is very odd and annoying for ships to deal with as well as frustrating for subs who wish to stay submerged and hidden 2. Since torpedoes no longer home, they now instead have an "inclination" firing option, which affects what angle they go relative to the surface. They are impossible to detect below the surface unless the player has hydroacoustic sonar. Once they reach the surface they travel along it as normal, allowing clever players to hide their torpedoes below the surface for longer at the risk of your torpedoes missing by going under their target. 3. Sonar is purely a locating tool now, allowing submarines to see enemy ships around them at the cost of giving those ships information on where the submarines might be. 4. (Optional) Decrease Submarine speed and increase dive capacity to increase "historical accuracy" for those that care about it. Changes to ASW 1. Airstrike charges must be set to a specific depth (Periscope/Cruising/Max), the deeper the depth the longer it takes for them to detonate. If you're off, the charge does no damage. 2. Destroyer charges are deployed to all the depths at once, making them supremely useful for annihilating subs if they can find them and get on top of them. There, now submarine counterplay is more then just "find the sub click on airstrike" and submarine gameplay is more than "spam sonar until it sticks then fire all torpedoes". If someone better at this game than me (I am a very casual player) can offer any insights I'd be very interested in what I might have missed.

As a submarine player, I whole heartedly concur. However, having received much unwelcomeness from the greater community, (Lots of "Subs are OP. We have no real way of countering them!") Maybe it would be best not to add a depth setting to Depth Charges.

​@@nymbattheeternal1279 Yeah, i played some more matches with the new maneuvering changes and you're probably right, before an airstrike felt very unavoidable now it feels like it forces me to maneuver around it but I'm capable of dodging it at longer ranges. I do agree with the common criticism of airstrike ranges being too short as well, now that submarines can more easily dodge most airstrikes should have very long ranges (with the airstrike taking some time to reach that range). I also had a half-baked idea for a way submarines could play a more supporting role in spotting enemy ships (have the sonar ping spotting enemies and radioing their positions to the your team while on the surface, additionally having a radio buoy that allows you to do so even when submerged but the enemy can see the buoy on the surface and find you with it similar to an oil slick) but it felt a little complicated for an already-long comment and I couldn't quite remember if the radio buoy was ever a thing IRL or not.

As a sub main I’m happy for the homing torpedos to go and trade that for much better, realistic submerge time. It’s also key that destroyers are the best counter and made relevant.

Not being able to see a sub's bow/stern when they ping is the most frustrating part because surface ships have to guess if they're pushing or kiting away before it's too late.

WW2 Submarine decoys were merely noise emitters Countermeasures to torpedoes should NOT be in the game Might aswell add Missile guided warships if you present countermeasures

Homing Torpedos are a bit much in my opinion. As a submarine main, its rather easy to delete a ships health bar with homing torps. I feel so bad for surface vessels that when I use my Tier 8 Subs, I only use non homing torps so they at least have a chance to evade incoming trops.

Kudos to you. I guess you do get the small benefit of not lighting up for a second then. But as someone who is usually on the receiving end it feels kind of odd that I have to go directly over a sub in a 1950's cruiser that should at the very least be equipped with hedgehogs, while some 1930's sub is doing 30 kts submerged launching 1970's homing torps. I was surprised to learn in that video that subs could ping even below periscope depth. Now they decreased turning circle even more.. Well at least you're not a CV player.

@@connycontainer9459 I know how you feel though, while I main Subs, my first main were Battleships. So I know the struggle of suddenly getting ping, and seeing torpedos suddenly hit you under the belt and then (rare but has happened) penetrate your citadel. Again, that's why when I'm in my Tier 8 subs, I just use only Torpedos instead of Homing Torpedos

@@SimCityEA1989 It just doesn't make sense that subs use them while everyone else hase to use skill, experience and intuition to land a torp hit. Back when WOWS was 'the thinking man's game' it even had friendly fire for torps, so you really had to hold back on them unless you were pretty sure. Anyway, it's not gonna get better, enjoy it while you can. Whish you all the best !

@@connycontainer9459 Oh I know man- I was a Beta Tester back then. First time playing I only remember US & Japan, only Destroyers, Crushers, and Battleships. No Aircraft Carriers, Super Battleships, Super Carriers, or Submarines. However I'm not too anti-against it. It's fun, unique, and beautiful to see underwater and all. I've seen so many complaints and anger since the very beginning of the first update, all the way to now. I just learn to have fun and to be honest, subs are very week. All it takes is 2 or 3 depth charges and they get destroyed, let alone in higher tiers they can get easily spotted with Sub Surveillance and Hydroacoustic Search. I've had numerous of games where one minute I launch torpedoes, next minute I'm spotted, and the last minute I'm being bombarded by planes dropping depth charges at me from the whole fleet. However a good skillful submarine player is a MAJOR pain in the ass to deal with. Though its very fun when its a Sub vs Sub fight because then it hecomes a game of cat and mouse and who can spot the other one first. To be honest, I can only see like Tier Star Submarines have homing Torps but to be fair as well, Submarines in the later years of the 2nd World War also had homing torps, especially the U-Boats. Though thats just my opinion, other then that, yeah man! Hit me up sometime, you and I should play a game man!

Yes attacking a sub with a DD is literally suicide because they can keep spamming you with ping from outside of spotting range and keep firing homing torpedoes from the rear. Subs also need a visibility nerf so they can’t spot as well as DDs. DDs very rarely get to depth charge range because of how fast subs are and their high HP and the sub will keep the DD permanently spotted which means certain death from BB secondary guns and other ships.

I feel like implementing reduced submarine torpedo damage at close range was a bit overkill with regard to nerfing shotgunning. Yeah, it sucked to get shotgunned as a surface ship, but if it happened, it’s probably because the sub didn’t have a better option in the moment. I feel like implementing more countermeasures to discourage shotgunning rather than directly nerfing it would have been a better call.

Your wishes granted everyone - Sub have been made irrelevant. after the nerf, my torps are doing almost no damage. last game... 16 torp hits, total damage 46000. from torps that are supposedly 8K each. several game later... my average torp damage is about 2500-3000 each... that's nothing.

Unlimited+Auto Sub surveillance on DD! Squid and Hedgehog! (4 , Minegumo/Kitakami/super DDs torp can use F) Airstrike FIDO for the higher-tier surface ship! (cause high chance direct hit) Noisemaker decoy!(counter homing)

What about all the techline battleships in tiers 8-10? In a match where neither of the buffed cruiser branches are present, you've effectively just made submarines even harder to deal with for the ships who were struggling the most to deal with them in the first place, since ALL submarines had their mobility buffed, but only battleships in tier 5-7 received changes to their ASW.

the most important thing was not changed.. I abandoned the game because of the torpedoes that chase ships.. this unfortunately killed the game.

I personally believe if you are firing a dept charge either by DD or by Airstrike, you should have to set the depth. 0m or 30m or 60m if the SS is at a diff depth by 1 level then any damage should be 50% less. If you are more than two levels of depth different then the damage should be 0 or 25% depending on your tier. It is the only way to provide cover for SS. Right now, they are too vulnerable to depth charges.

This overall isnt a nerf to WG's most pampered class in the game. Although surface ships can spammed more ASW, they do less dmg now and subs get inproved turning circle radius.This aint a nerf to subs, its a fucking buff to subs. WG, you know why you need to keep rebalancing the 2 most hated classes in the game (spoilers: subs and CVs)? Because you guys don't even have a balancing team to begin with. Nobody wanted CVs, nobody wanted subs, yet this silent "majority" that you proclaim that are in support of subs are nowhere to be found. You know why you need to keep buffing subs? Its not because they are terrible, because the people who play them are in the "plain bad" category (cough, cough) You guys are so hell bent at destroying the game you created. Good job WG if thats your goal.

So basically its harder to fight in a submarine. When will WG nurf invisable, invinceable destroyers that spam 15 semi-automatic torpedoes. IMO the DDs are the most lopsided killers in the game.

In my opinion as a sub player, they should decrease the damage of the depth charges but increase the damage of battleship airstrikes. Because tbh if I see a dd or a cruiser I’m gonna avoid them or try to get them from afar. Also if a dd or a cruiser gets me tangled in a depth charge line the. I’m cooked and since they do 600 damage a bomb and they can cause flooding and fire I feel like they are good. But I also love to play battleships and they practically have no anti sub weapons. The airstrike is so easily avoidable. Also the alternative torps are gonna be useless since the range for them is shorter and they are adding the range damage reduction. Honestly the British subs are gonna be the best because they specialize in long distance attacks with acoustic homing torps.

The lenght of dive should be increased too, on some submarines its only 2,5-3 mins what is like midlefinger you can dive but you cant run! :D

Depth charges for all ships needs to be increased. Subs are meant to be high risk high reward, right now it’s high reward no risk.

As long as they implement a game mechanic where as a single 5 to 18 inch shell kills most the crew and sinks your sub.

ugh no wonder i've been having such a hard time against air strikes. they cover and area bigger than a battle ship. I can tell you that turning radius does no good cause you just dont have the speed to get out of the death zone when they fire. you should make people have skill to hit a sub than give them a targeter the size of a zip code to hit the sub with. If you made the projectiles that ships fire cover that much area no one would miss their shots and you guys would be swamped with complaints >.

This definitely seems to be a step forward. However, what is the reasoning behind leaving some ships to their terrible depth charge range compared to ships of the same Tier? I'm mostly thinking about Musashi with its 5 km DC air strike range, which is not included to the list of ships which got their range buffed. There might be a few others as well.

Some subs have a shorter cooldown and prep time than others, and you can now mount an upgrade to reduce it further.

I never had a blind sub collision until my first game since the update i collided with a balao and died since we both had ram flags and U4501 hp pool guarentted my death

It Let submarine more difficult and challenging! Nice update I want to talk about the noise I suggest that destroyer should able to detect it. Like When submarine so fast, destroyer nearby can see some “hints”, but not clear, player need to be focus more. Destroyer should have sea mines (this exist in history

I think that with air craft carrier we should be able to choose the amount of air planes to take off and how many to put in attack flight and be able to change it in game and choose how high the planes fly because the way aircraft carriers are make it kinda unfair in my opinion
