We were flying in one of these over Iraq/Kuwait back when I was in the Army. Pilots let some of us come up to the flight deck witch was awesome, but the best part was he did some zero g stuff and had us floating around the aircraft. It was like being on the space shuttle. It was amazing, one of the coolest things I ever did in the military.

From the beginning to about 3:30 is the tire change. Though in the literal sense a tire change is just taking the tire off and putting a new one back on, in the bigger sense it also involves the rebuilding of the tire which is most of what is being shown.

The original landing gear on the B-36 bomber, had just one tire on each side. The tires were seven feet tall. There were only three runways in the world that could handle that much concentrated weight. The quickly switched the landing gear to a four wheel landing gear, like most aircraft.

Aircraft tires can be recapped up to a dozen times. So it is more expensive for the initial tire.
@lloydholt6511
@lloydholt6511 3 жыл бұрын
You evidently have not purchased many aviation tires. Remember this aircraft weighs over 280,000 pounds unloaded. It lands at relatively low speeds for an aircraft but can carry staggering loads. imagine landing a nearly four hundred thousand pound aircraft at one hundred miles per hour. Tires go from zero to one hundred mph in a second. Think your auto tires can handle that. Put one on the aircraft and watch it explode when weight is applied. Just imagine how much an Abrams tank weighs and add that to the unloaded weight of the aircraft plus another 30,000- 40,000 pounds of fuel. They also have to endure high speeds when taking off with the same weights. And just for grins and giggles the tires still have to meet minimum aviation standards. Try pricing a tire for a large airbus or large Boeing aircraft. They ain’t as cheap as your car tires are. These aircraft can carry a battle load into a unimproved dirt strip and land or take off in 3500 feet or less.
@metaljacket866
@metaljacket866 3 жыл бұрын
@@lloydholt6511 are you really trying to make your point comparing 50 to 500 maybe 1000 dollar auto tires with a tire that commands a 40, 000 dollar price ? Common sense would be to take an passanger airline tire cost and compare it to those tires and add some extra costs for higher weight perhaps, but you are comparing ridiculous extremes.
@metaljacket866
@metaljacket866 3 жыл бұрын
@@lloydholt6511 oh look I just wasted a couple of minutes doing a search on aviation tires , including military. .. and that cost is nowhere near $40,000 so before you get all righteous about a $40, 000 tire for a military aircraft .

Your math doesn't add up. If the plane weighs 282,500lbs empty and it's Max liftoff weight is 585,000lbs, then that leaves 302,500lbs for cargo. Not the 170,900lbs stated in the video. Maybe you mean it can carry 170,900lbs of cargo after fuel and all other plane accessories are installed. If so, then you should state that clearly.
