Thanks for the knowledge but what size of elbow fitting are you using on the compressor?
@CTSCAPER7 жыл бұрын
As you started using the crows foot I thought to myself, "Gee, there's finally a place where you need one." :-)
@57bagre7 жыл бұрын
Yes, not too often but sometimes there is a need, you could, if you have a couple extra wrenches, cut the open end off and weld it onto the end at a right angle and stick an extension through the round end for a handle if your in a pinch and the stores are closed or you just don't have time to go to the store.

Good idea, I don't know if the air hose is resistant to the hot oil. not saying it isn't, just don't know. Good luck Michael.

I've had the same problem with the same hose, is the hydraulic hose working out better?
@57bagre7 жыл бұрын
For now the new hose is fine but it is still new so I don't know how long it will last but I am sure it will do better then the factory house thanks For your question

I appreciate the video. I just bought a 1997 bus with a DT466. It has a bad oil leak. Im trying to diagnose the issue. I thought it might be that compressor oil line.
@57bagre Жыл бұрын
The 466 and the series 60 like the one in my truck are totally different motors. You can pressure wash your motor and drive it a couple miles and look for where the oil is coming from.

Thanks for the knowledge. Now I know where the leaks coming from and the solution. I been scratching my head for a few Oil changes on a recent in frame trying to figure out where the compressor leaking from in the rear. Big Shout Out from West, Tx, out by Waco

Null mi detroit 12.7 star sound like knoking my mechanic put the computer an he tell me all on engine look working fine i rebuilt the engine 4 monts ago u think maybe is the air compresor??
@57bagre6 жыл бұрын
I don't know. Maybe you can use a piece of hose to listen through and put one end in your ear and probe around the motor with the other end to find where the noise is coming from.
@j.c.smithprojects7 жыл бұрын
is it just the way the camera shows it or is that hose going to rub on that bolt on the top corner of the air compressor? how is you 60 series doing for fuel mileage on the long hauls?
@57bagre7 жыл бұрын
It might be touching slightly I know it wasn't tight against it, I'll check on that. The fuel mileage was about 6.3 avg. city and highway when I was regional 6 years ago, when I had time to go 55 mph on highway runs I got about 7.3, now that I'm local I get about 4. I don't think the rebuild will make any difference in mpg but an oil change will last longer and overall the engine should get up to another million miles.
@j.c.smithprojects7 жыл бұрын
i just wondered if the mpg possibly got better with new rings and a valve job. i assume that mpg is at 80k gross. ours seemed like fuel mileage was best between 500k and 700k. then it started getting lower and lower. it steadily dropped to from 9.2 to 6.5 in the last 200k. we are only 30k to max 40k total and we removed the front drive and have just a single rear drive so we are pretty light. then just under 1 million it lost compression on #5. i have not decided if i am going to repair it or move into another truck.
@57bagre7 жыл бұрын
Wind resistance has an awful lot to do with mpg also driver habits, condition of tires, road conditions etc. miles on the engine don't have much to do with it if it's not burning a lot of oil or like you say losing compression. I don't know how much resistance my engine has after the rebuild, the pistons just slid right down by their own weight when I put them in, I'm sure they will loosen up a little more after a little use.

dang, 9.2? I had no idea trucks could get that good of millage

My local NAPA makes hydraulic hoses that most of the time are much better quality than the factory stuff. Maybe it’s because the same guy has made their hoses for the last 25yrs.

Both my air compressor and turbocharger copper oil lines the truck came with were both leaking when I bought truck. I've since removed them and replaced with brand new copper pipe and no more problems. I am having problems getting new oil seals to work on turbocharger return line. Not sure why having so much problem with that but since I have to remove oil cooler for new seals and orings, I'll replace the turbo return tube a third time and hope for the best. The only rubber hose on truck is low-pressure power steering return hose which is now leaking and I'll have to soon replace it. The high pressure hydraulic power steering hose I already had my dealer replace along with new power steering pump several years ago. In July while I'm on vacation in Tampa, I'm leaving my truck for whole week at Clarke Diesel for a brand new bull-gear. That will bullet proof engine rebuild done by them a year ago. Two weeks ago I took truck to them to reflash ECM for more power and change a few parameters and it made me like my truck even more with the extra 40 horsepower. It was 370Hp when I bought it in 2010. Turned it up to 430Hp in 2012. Then two weeks ago had them max it out to 470Hp and it's running like a champ.
@57bagre7 жыл бұрын
It crossed my mind to have mine turned up now that the guts are all new but I don't want to start getting into bad habits and loose my fuel mileage, I squeezed out 8.5 mpg on my last trip, video not up yet.
@kingjames82837 жыл бұрын
That was the reason for not going beyond 430Hp all these years. Now that the guts on mine are also new I decided now was a good time to go for max. Still averaging 9.6 mpg though it went down slightly due to all those high winds we been dealing with last several weeks. Everyone asks how I'm getting 9.6 when all these new trucks barely avg 5.5 mph and it's all in the gearing. I'm running 2.64:1 rear ratio with 22.5LP and though it is gutless on take-off and climbing hills, once in 9th-10th gears on flat-n-level, it does pretty well as an on-road truck but horrible in off-road construction sites I go into. I've been thinking of changing transmissions again but this time to an 18-sp OD with maybe a 3.73:1 ratio and 22.5 standup rubber to see what happens.

Just had 2 steel hydraulic lines made for track loader. Seems they used steel where need the strength or if line runs near operator. Sure you have some on your construction equipment. Some hydraulic hose makers do not make steel lines, but around here there are some industrial hydraulic shops that have the correct tools. Also there are hard rubber protectors you can get for hydraulic lines to protect from rubbing. Works better than tape. You use cable ties to hold it around line.
@57bagre7 жыл бұрын
So far I haven't had to change a steel line, if I damage one I'll try to cut the damage part out and splice in a piece, as far as where they put them, it's obvious the steel is by far much cheaper to use than hose and doesn't go bad just by age and use, they only use hose where it needs to flex, they could run the steel lines inside the boom parts and use swivel adapters at the pivot points behind a removable access plate, I would do it that way if I designed it, I need to put some kind of protection on mine because I do a lot of tree work with it and get tree branches and roots caught in the lines all the time.
@geraldwayne62616 жыл бұрын
We always replaced these hoses with hydraulic line! They last quite a while longer but still get stiff over time! Ours would usually last a couple of years before the hot oil causes stiffness then they start to crack from vibration!

If I were retired I could do videos by request but I am still working full time and in the middle of a major construction project at home at the same time, I do still try to answer questions when I know how to. Thanks for watching and commenting.

@@57bagre 😁 ok. Thanks for replying back. I do have Detroit 60 serios 14 liter and my compressor on the head it's starting to sip out oil not much but enough to notice and in morning when it's building air primary tank starts building air but the secondary tank it builds really slow and the middle starts coming back down when it's about 75 psi it stays there back and forth for like 2 or 3 minutes eventually it builds air. How long you think the compressor will last before it brakes? Again thank you for all those videos and the time you take to make them 👍😁🖐

Hey gordon, i have a 2000 12.7 series 60 and i have the same issue and i was going to get the hose made. I wanted to already have the hose with me instead of taking it off first. What are the dimensions of that hose and what type of fittings do they have on each end? And how is that hydraulic hose working out? Thanks
@57bagre7 жыл бұрын
I don't know the name of the fittings. The hose is doing fine and I'm sure it will do better than the hose from the dealer, I own several hydraulic machines and need to replace a hose now and then and these hydraulic hoses withstand much more pressure than the compressor oil hose so it's a much tougher hose at about the same price. I would just take it off and bring it in or do it at the hose shop.
@biiqyboy7 жыл бұрын
detroit diesel part number#23528670 That is the hose that I got over the phone from freightliner. If you look up this part number the hose looks like it has a metal pipe attached to it, is that the updated version? Just making sure before i buy it. I can also detach the one I have and take it to a hose shop but Im a bit rushed on time. If you can confirm for me. thanks
@geraldwayne62616 жыл бұрын
JIC compression fittings! Most of the ones I did were 1/4 inch line and fittings, every once in a while we would get a 3/8 line, we would just change out fittings and go back with 1/4!

Thanks for all your videos they are awesome and very helpful, got myself a 95 series 60. I think that line on mine is going bad or is bad. I have oil in the air line coming out in the parking brake valves and air leak on my passenger seat as well as my fan clutch...which needs to be replaced. (I'll have to watch your videos on that again) any idea if it's that hose that would be the issue?
@57bagre6 жыл бұрын
That hose on this video will get hard, crack and leak oil out of itself when it gets old but has nothing to do with leaking internally. I think you need to replace your air compressor and also the braided air line from the compressor that goes back to the check valve. That air line that goes back will get extremely hot and the oil leaking out of the compressor will burn inside that air line and clog it up and make it real slow to fill your air tanks and also put a strain on your compressor making it run hotter too. After that you should replace the air dryer filter. I know it's a lot of money and work but since they all work together and are all effected by the compressor leaking oil, you can't get the results you need without replacing all of them in that order. Thanks for watching.

Gordon Robertson yeah I was looking more on KZbin. I think you're right I'm going to have to replace the compressor. Gonna have to save up just had to replace a cylinder last week and a poor man's overhaul. The piston came apart and pushed into the head. So I'm hurting after that. But next month that's what's being changed
