Thanks for the video, I needed that. I'm not as tough as you. When installing the new belt, I could not quite turn on by hand. I'm 68 and not as tough as I used to be. I did do something that really helped me though. I got the belt started on the bottom of the secondary as much as I could turn it, then used a socket and breaker bar on the secondary pulley nut and rotated it right on.

I like the technique. I have another. Take a two inch piece of any old belt and the rubber handles on a pair of channel locks or whatever. Put the handles in between the second clutch and wiggle back and forth while pushing the belt chunk down at the same time. When you get the piece about an inch or two down the new belt will slip right on. I'm making a video soon when my new belt shows up..👍👍

When you buy a Gatez belt, the instructions specifically tell you not to put the belt on this way. I put a belt on my brute force like this a few weeks ago and just blew it apart today. I curious if it's not because I used this method, seemed like it was really stretching the shit out of it it trying to get mine on.

That belt was loose. It's almost impossible to change a belt in this manner when the deflection is set right. And the only way to get the deflection right is to disassemble the secondary clutch. I would only attempt the method you used if I was stranded in the middle of nowhere. Why risk a hernia if the bike is sitting in your shop right next to all your tools?

Is this necessary I’m not not saying for or against but I haven’t seen anyone do this. I can see in an emergency situation forcing the belt on and off. But I can also see in my mind not with my eyes how it can damage your belt your new bill especially when you spending high dollar for the original equipment belt Kawasaki service manual recommends 240 flywheel why doesn't KZbin mention to put a fly wheel if you are in a suitable working condition garage or building whatever to avoid this stress point in forcing the belt on the ATV?

Great video. I removed the cover and found a lot of oil like substance inside the converter area. Is that normal?
@jaredmahler16384 жыл бұрын
No. There should not be any oil whatsoever inside the cvt belt housing. I would inspect the seal around the cvt housing first. You may want to check for oil intrusion from the engine itself. If oil from the engine is not a problem, clean the clutch sheaves with brake parts cleaner then try sealing the cvt housing with dielectric grease.

I got the same problem. Owner blew a belt. I cleaned the clutches/sheaves and put on a new belt. Same problem. Someone said it might be strands of belt caught up in the clutches somewheres, but I looked it over. But I haven't taken the primary off yet. Another said that the secondary needs to be shimmed, a dealer mechanic also said this.
@DodgeMan3604 жыл бұрын
@@rezifiedoutdooradventurez1441 Makes sense, I did fix it since my last comment, it did end up needing shims like you said. I bought a puller tool off Amazon and removed the secondary, shimmed it, cleaned it up and re-installed. No squeal now and it drives normal. Of course the shims are only available at a dealer and they weren't cheap, just overpriced washers.
@rezifiedoutdooradventurez14414 жыл бұрын
@@DodgeMan360 Yeah I took the secondary off and there was only one thin shim... Had owner contact the dealer and get some shimms.

Is it normal if I just replaced my belt and while in gear, with the break in stopped the new belt squeaks a little bit? Or does that not sound right
@waylonmccrae35465 жыл бұрын
Some belts are directional just make sure to always install the belt with the writing and numbers on the belt going the same direction as engine rotation (( IF )) the clutch drives are on the Right side of the Engine !! For example you read from left to RIGHT ... & most engines Right Side Drives rotate Clockwise to the RIGHT !! Left Side Clutch Drives Rotate Counter Clockwise .... And Belt Squeak Is Normal Until 2 to 3 hrs of Run Time On A New Belt !! Thanks - Matthew
@utahwanderlust7005 жыл бұрын
Joseph Krause A light squeal is actually ideal. It means you're on the tight side of the deflection range, which is good.
