Why go FFFF FFFF FFFF FFFF when you can go FFGG CCCC FFGG CCCC?
While working on our collaboration, THE FLASH and I got quite geeky about the question: What difference do chords make in Music Maker jam? And how to know what the best chords changes (that some people call "changing notes") are?
Picking a few bars from our collaboration, this video shows you how a section sounds with the same chords over and over, compared to a chord progression.
We also highlight the benefits of the MMJ LIVE MODE in finding the best sounding chords or notes while making a song. (this video shows Live Mode from a previous version of MMJ - for a tutorial about live mode in the current MMJ version check this out: • Building a melody with... )
The full songs was published inMusic Maker Jam and the BETA-version of the LOUDLY app.

Well, a thing I found out after playing around in MMJ is that, sometimes the main blank project with boring "CDEFG#A" Notes that MMJ gives you, isn't enough. Out of curiosity, I opened a STYLE PACK instead of opening a blank one. Deleted all of the project bars within it as well, until I had 1. The notes section changed to new notes not found in the blank one! :) (and don't worry, if you opened a style pack with a preset project within it, it will NEVER overwrite that stylepack! You can save it as a new project of your own! :D ) Been using the app since It first started and Ive been using that method for years lmao. Legit you get more variations and notes if you do that 😉👌👌👌 And YEET! Have fun with that tip ya'll.

I only use that method, never a blank project. Thanks for spelling it out like that. I intend to make a video about that as well.

@@TomZMusic No probs! I had to get it out there cuz I noticed some peeps using the same notes in their songs. It gets bland real fast. And from there they lose the potential to make more with the app 😟

When I first started on mmj I didn't know how to use the notes, or segments. I was just using one segment, one note. So this is a great video for beginners. Great video Tom.

Haha, I have been nagging about this for years to all jammers I have come across, but I gave up because almost no one was willing to learn. I guess it's easier for musicians to think about these things because notes/chords was literally the first thing I wanted to change when I wrote my first song almost 3 years ago lol. One thing that absolutely baffles me is how a song can easily end up on the top spots on trending without basically any effort put into it, while other more well thought through songs gets no attention at all.

It is a matter of priority. And what the priorities are, I can see very clearly from the statistics of this video. The video "what to do if you get banned" I did a week before this got watched by almost everybody till the end and has had hundreds of views within a few days. Whereas this video has a higher drop-out rate and not as many plays. The community is higher priority to many people than the music.
@jessicanyqvist3189
@jessicanyqvist3189 6 жыл бұрын
And that's also lies my problem. Someone told me yesterday that for many, being on trending or popular on mmj is more important than the music itself. Which I don't understand. The music should be the priority. If you're good, you should be promoted, but if you're bad, well, re-do it and try again. Of course art is also very subjective, but you know what I mean. You should not be on trending just because you're popular, you should be on trending because you're very good at what you do. Which is one of the reason I stopped care about the community and walked away. I was so close to start cry sometimes when I stumble upon a jammer who knew what he or she was doing. Someon who was thinking outside the box, but yet, had barely any listening. But then you go to trending, press play on the top spot and it's some repetitive, unoriginal with no chord progression song. I just don't understand this. Maybe I'm to old, or take it too serious. I don't know. I just know that this kind of mentally drove me away.
@TomZMusic
@TomZMusic 6 жыл бұрын
I think it all depends on the way you think. A lot of the frustrations people have are revolving about who or what is on trending. Imagine a world where you or other people know that list is there but don't check it or don't care who is on it. Life becomes easy. When I go to MMJ I first respond to likes and comments people left on my songs. Then I press the "following" list and listen to music from the people I follow. I don't even have enough time to do that completely.

Indeed - you are not the target audience, but when discussing with other jammers we found that it is fundamental information like this that many find useful. Will cover the circle of fifths in 2 years time :-)
