I would really like to thank you! I've only played the harp for about 7 months and changing strings has been very frustrating to me. I've just watched this for the first time and this time changing strings became a lot easier. Really, thank you!

Thank you so much! This is the only video I looked at that showed exactly in which part of the knot to place the toggle.

Thank you so much for this. I had a daughter in tears this morning with her new Aoyama lever harp and her first broken string (it never occurred to us that they break). Your instructions and calming voice have gone a long way to instill confidence...thank you again for a father and daughter in Japan.

Not sure why I watched this. I don't even own a harp. She was just so pretty and her voice was just so soothing, like I was listening to an angel give me instructions on harp strings.

Thank you Elizabeth, I enjoyed your video tremendously and it has taken the fear out of broken strings for me. You make tying the knot look so simple!!!

Elizabeth Jaxon Salvi Just made a 50 String Harp w/ a full 7 Octaves from A0 to A7, they're working on extending the range further, as well as having disks for all strings by making the instrument a little larger. Since the Harp has quite alot of Strings to keep in tune, I recommend using all Nylon for the Treble Strings & the Bass Strings being Steel cause it'll hold tune more.

Whew! Sorry I'm so late! I've enjoyed playing the guitar, acoustic and electric, for the past 36+ years. I was interested to find the types of strings and tuning for the harp. Bam! Well, there ya go! Thank you for a concise and pleasant video!

Elizabeth Jaxon The Pirastro Concert Harp Strings I use (all Nylon & Steel no Gut Strings at all) have Transitional Strings between the Plain Nylon Trebles (those stop at the 4th Octave F) & the Wound Steel Basses (those start at the 5th Octave C which I think more musicians would prefer that for Durability reasons) that's Aluminum Wound Nylon Strings for the 5th Octave E & D which will smooth out the Transition giving you the most killer tone. Since the Harp has quite alot of Strings All Nylon & Steel Strings (the Pirastro versions) should improve its tuning stability.

Thanks for all the positive feedback on this video, everybody! I'm really touched to know that this has actually been useful for people. I have a whole series of videos on other harp care topics that should be coming out soon. I'll let you know when they do!

I had this idea of using Silk & Steel strings for all the strings on a Harp cause they always hold tune.

Thanks for sharing this beautiful and clear tutorial🙏✌️🙏I have a question 🙏 I am building two lap Harps...I should mount metal pins....but I would like to made them in wood,is this possible?🙏🙏🙏 thank You very much 🙏 and compliment for your Art 🙏 Marino🏵️🌸🌷🙏✌️🌌☀️

That’s a great question! Normally we use metal pins because they have to carry so much tension from the string, but depending on the size of your lap harps, it may be possible to use a really hard wood peg instead. I’d say give it a try! If they break, then you know you need to switch to metal pegs. Good luck!

Don't worry, you can still use it! It will just be a little weaker at that point than it would have been otherwise, so it might not last quite as long. In some really bad cases, it might make the pitch of the string "false". It's just ideal not to crimp it, but it's not the end of the world if you do.
@Starritt_Piano10 жыл бұрын
I have only had harp lessons for about 2 months. :) Two strings have just been replaced on my lever harp. I noticed that the strings have a tendency to stretch so the pitch goes flatter, straight after this I tuned them up to pitch with the levers down. Should I keep doing this for a few days during my practice sessions until they are eventually stabilised and settled? :) thank you:) )
