That looked painful :D for that last stage, you could have used a bit more flux and those pins should eventually sit in place and not bridge. I find RMA flux to work best for that. Great job as always ❤

The best way is to first clean the anker holes. Its easy -just preheat them and then use iron, flux and wick. It costs few extra minutes but eliminates exactly these situations. Its a miracle u didn't break/bend pins.

I'm super careful with this stuff. It doesn't really show on video though. I never once pulled a pin changing any port on any device. Well, except when I did that smashing things :D (the story I told here, but I'm not counting that as this wasn't part of soldering :P) That said I'm sure it's bound to happen at some point.

Again - that said you are completely right, I could just clean the anchor points. And I will in the future as this situation was a bit stressful.
