We had a really lovely morning this last omnipod change. I wanted to give you guys a look to see what site changes look like these days. I still change them in her sleep when I can, but it’s also a big win when omnipod changes end up like this.
It’s amazing to see both of our confidences grow as we go through this life with T1D. I’m very proud of us and more so Addie because she literally amazes me every day!
I hope we inspire you all to keep it up and live your best life. Attitude is everything!

Just discovered your channel. I can’t thank you enough for sharing this content. I’m sure This is so incredibly powerful and helpful to so many t1d toddler parents. I was diagnosed at the age of 3 (now 38) and I wish my mom could have watched your channel 35 years ago! It would have helped her so so much. You too are the best !

Guys, at the end of the day, this is not your child. Theres no need to get in the comments and tell her how to raise her children. If u cant just enjoy the content and not put ur 2 cents in the comments, maybe go watch something else. Shes not putting this intimate content out to get bashed or told shes doing things wrong. She doesn't need ur 2 cents. Take it somewhere else.

First and foremost let me say Addie is sooooo freakin cute! I couldn’t imagine having a little one like her with a health condition like she has. It has to be more than hard. We don’t know u less we’ve been there. Second everyone saying keep your comments to yourself is very confusing to me. This is a public social media account. Anyone can see or comment if they choose. If anyone doesn’t want people to know thier personal story or comment on it then they will not use this site. Third there’s a nice way to say things and a rude way. I’m sure mom is adult enough to listen to the people who are sharing their opinions as long as they are adult about it and not rude! Fourth I think most of us are looking at her sugar intake just as a normal toddler. In my opinion and it’s just that my opinion…she consumes a lot of sugar even for a normal toddler. On top of that we rarely see her eat healthy snacks which is concerning. The only time I can recall recently was her eating a fruit snack at the pool. Most other times is candy, chips, donuts etc. which is fine my kids eat that stuff also but very very scarce. And they are perfectly healthy. But that’s my choice and as addys mom it’s her choice what she is ok with addy having. I highly doubt addys doctor has said …yes feed addy anything she wants and just adjust her insulin. Type 1 or not. Maybe there is much more going on than what we see. If so let us see it! Show the world that addy gets healthy snacks! Let us see those as well. Anyhow I’ll close with I’m not in her shoes so I can’t say how I would be if it were one of mine. I may be the same as addys mom you never know until your in those shoes yourself! Remember everyone be nice when leaving your opinions. Women need to build one another up not tear each other down!❤❤❤❤❤❤

I think there’s an illusion going here with regards to how much sugar she has in her regular diet. She probably gets more sugar than the average toddler on dexcom and pod change days because: 1. Treat for being good and braving changes, and to build pleasant associations 2. “It’s not safe for you to eat that til we’ve done your pod and dexcom change” is a good motivator for compliance with what’s necessary anyway And we probably see her eating sugar a disproportionate amount of the time in the ‘I let her eat what she likes’ videos because they’re edited for illustration. Either way, she’ll be under the care of a competent pediatrician and diabetes team, who can view these publicly-posted videos and share truly important/gamechanging concerns/advice pertaining to her particular case. In conjunction with my previous comment illustrating why we can’t impose ‘normal’ rules onto minority individual cases, I think we’re all good here. :)

@catherinespark
@catherinespark Жыл бұрын
OK, I am putting this out there for the thoughts it may provoke. My sister and I grew up with a VERY rare, lifelong, genetic in-born error of protein metabolism. It basically means that all natural protein is dangerous to us in more than a very small quantity and thus requires a restrictive diet (and when I say small quantities, I mean it makes a difference whether we have a slice of white bread or wholegrain bread - that's the level of precision I mean. On sick days - when protein intake has to be even lower as a safety precaution - wholegrain bread is too high in protein but white bread is ok). Not getting enough calories can put us into metabolic crisis, just as much as eating too much natural protein can. For this reason, all the best medical experts have actively urged us all our lives to eat specifically 'junk food' - crisps, sweets, sugar, chips. We are even prescribed a pure carbohydrate, protein-free, high glycemic index polymer - maxijul - to help with this effort. For us, it is an indispensable food group. Why? Because all sources of natural protein also contain significant amounts of hitchhiker calories, as it were. If a person cuts down natural protein to the degree that my sister and I have to on a day to day basis, it actually results in a diet that doesn't contain sufficient hitchhiker calories to make up an overall calorie count that can sustain life. Hence junk food becoming nutritionally important for us. There are a couple of people with our condition who also have T1D, and this guideline remains necessarily the case for them too. I share this here to illustrate that when it comes to medical conditions, you really cannot use normal rules to predict or anticipate the ideal nutritional goals for any one person with them, so there really is no point in commenting from the outside. They could be completely turned on their heads, as they are for my sister and me.

I appreciate your comment. I have a t1d 3 year old. Counting carbs and monitoring her bg is tough but it can always be worse. I had no idea what t1d actually meant until my daughter's diagnoses and I find most people don't know about what they don't deal with. Having to avoid protein... wow I didn't know about this condition, of course, but I just went to look it up. How difficult to live a healthy lifestyle when protein could give you brain damage! As with carbs, people don't realize that carbs are in everything! With the exception of meat, eggs and cheese. Protein is hidden in everything too. And food labels aren't created equally. I wish you the best and thank you for your comment.

I know this isn't your child. I also know you have no clue what the difference is between type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Type 1 is not impacted by diet. Her pancreas doesn't work and no change in diet will affect that. And when someone is diagnosed, they are referred to a dietician. That's not you and your guesses at what you think she needs. 🙄

Addy is a beautiful little princess , there is no doubt you are a wonderful mom and you want to protect your child from any suffering . But as a nurse, I worked with adults with type 1 DM since childhood ; when I see this big glazed donut in her hand ...I think Addy needs to be taught that she has a health problem , that she needs to accept it and control it and work with it with all the help and suppport of family and friends and health care providers. Little by little she will learn ; otherwise her quality of life through the time ....will be not good at all and neither her life expectancy. Think about it.

I’m with you. Working with type 1 diabetic patients and had a sister with it. Eating everything in “moderation” eventually took her kidneys, eyesight and two toes. Plus the hypoglycemic episodes were so scary. There are great resources (ChocZero, Lily’s) for diabetics now. I make donuts (it’s not that hard, I promise!) but make them low carb/diabetic-friendly.
