I lean heavy travel in my setup but with what you have and your burn rate, this strategy makes perfect sense.

Always good to change it up. I’ve been apping like business as usual haha, I seriously will sit quiet now until next spring or so I want a Bilt card lol.

With your banked points, makes sense to pivot for a time. I tend to switch over to the Amex Gold and Hilton Surpass as a Hilton earning duo when I need to build back, but otherwise prefer 5% Cashback “on all the things” as RJ says

Ive never had that many transferable currency points - I would definitely cash some out or cycle in some cash back weeks/months. Those points are worthless sitting in the account.

Great video Doug 👍You always make us think!!! The concern with focusing on hotel or airline specific points is the being stuck and the possibility of devaluation. If you are looking for cheaper Marriot card with a free night and plan on getting rid of your platinum cards, the Amex Bonvoy business may be better than the Chase Bonvoy Boundless due to getting gold status(consumer boundless gets silver), additional Marriott discounts, and depending on spending you might get more points for dining and gas.

Yes, the risk of devaluation is always there. I believe I can burn the points within a year or so that I earn on hotel cards, so I think the risk is low "enough" for me to try it. The Marriott Bonvoy Business is on my radar, esp with 5 FNC SUB!!!! Thanks Engineer!

I have cherry-picked some decent Marriott stays in Iowa, Minnesota, and Florida. Courtyard/Residence Inns have been the best value for my specific stays, .8- 1.1cpp. Value not as consistent as other programs, but still worth a look.

Wow Dugroz, you are a true points hoarder hahaha. Funnily enough, my bucket looked very similar just replacing Capital one with Hilton points etc and don’t have Citi, but then I just started going crazy with booking experiences. I think it’s a good plan, I think probably get rid of the Platinum Business, but I see a lot of people shifting to hotel cards at the moment. I’d maybe do the same if I wasn’t going solely for Hyatts this year, but I think it’s a smart method since those cards really do cover most of life, and maximize experiences. Like you said, bunch of FNCs is awesome. Great thoughts all around Dugroz, I’m excited to see your next few months!

Thanks Anthony! The business platinum is already gone. Maybe I will explain my decision in a future video? Haven’t decided yet. 😄

Hey Doug, sounds like a great plan! Do you have a cash 💵 amount in mind to shoot for? Like for a specific goal in mind? Or just do it until the transferable point balances start to Wain a bit? Anyway sounds like a great idea 💡

Thanks Sean ! I feel like if I got my cashback savings account up to $2000 I would be “satisfied“. 😄 That doesn’t necessarily mean that I would stop there. We’ll just see how it goes! Maybe I think of that is something of a soft goal. Thanks for watching, and commenting!
