I saw many honor guard shifts. Look at the soldiers trained tremendously. They are the best honor guards in the world. I want to say that they are the best of the best in the honor guard worldwide. I was impressed by the Taiwanese soldier.

@Timothy Gray In spite of your earlier snide comment, I'm going to be civil to you...at least, for now. I've always considered the Army's drill team to be superior (my personal prejudice from being in the Army, I suppose), but here's news: the Air Force has beaten all other branches. kzbin.info/www/bejne/n3WYmJ2YmdqDl5I

One day, one officer gets up in the morning and decides to create a distinctive process for the changing of the guard.... Then for generations soldiers find themselves doing strange choreographies... Taiwan's military training is deeply rooted in prussian doctrine. Nazi Germany and the Wehrmacht sent officers and trainers to train the Kuomintang Army to fight the Japanese Empire prior to WW2. It eventually stuck even after the US supported Taiwan after WW2 with their own training and equipment.

These guys are really good. Then again though, honor guards are always the gold standard. In my opinion, the Tomb Guards in the US are still the best. It's absolutely pristine in every way, they do it in every weather and situation, they won't show pain to any degree and are avowed to uphold the standard for the rest of their life. Their movements are simple but robotic. Just my two cents. I think these guys use way too much movement, but they're pristine nonetheless.

Bravo to the Taiwanese guards and militaries even though mighty nations are bearing down on you and your tiny (nation) but yet you are undeterred. You stand up to what you believe. i tip my hat to you. Now back to the guard changing procession. :) again, I tip my hat. Certainly the boys are very discipline. Unfortunately, there are always some ignorant fools among us speak without first do some inquiries says the guard changing displayed "too much showmanship." Pardon me, fool, for every moves and every steps, every gestures has a reason and meaning behind it. Allow me farther add, anyone who goes to watch changing guard ceremony shouldn't walking around near the procession or talking loudly. Have some decency, show some respect, would you?

It’s purely because the soldiers didn’t have adequate skills to master the drill procedure to make it solemn. Most of these soldiers were conscripts, their service term was less than 12 months, and they spent no more than 9 months within their honour guards unit. They barely learned the basics before they were discharged.
