Taiwan's military training is deeply rooted in prussian doctrine. Nazi Germany and the Wehrmacht sent officers and trainers to train the Kuomintang Army to fight the Japanese Empire prior to WW2. It eventually stuck even after the US supported Taiwan after WW2 with their own training and equipment.

These guys are really good. Then again though, honor guards are always the gold standard. In my opinion, the Tomb Guards in the US are still the best. It's absolutely pristine in every way, they do it in every weather and situation, they won't show pain to any degree and are avowed to uphold the standard for the rest of their life. Their movements are simple but robotic. Just my two cents. I think these guys use way too much movement, but they're pristine nonetheless.

It’s purely because the soldiers didn’t have adequate skills to master the drill procedure to make it solemn. Most of these soldiers were conscripts, their service term was less than 12 months, and they spent no more than 9 months within their honour guards unit. They barely learned the basics before they were discharged.
