Hi Wayne, this video really helped me change out the rear brake pads on my 2018 S63A4. The job went very smoothly. Even though the above car is a S560, the rear calipers were basically identical to my S63 amg versions. As such, the instructions you provided were just the ticket. Thanks much!

A big thank you for your video. Did the rear brake job on my S560 and it went really well as per your method. BTW, tried the C-clamp method and it can be really tedious as I was unable to retract the pistons with that method. Used the blue compression tool you recommended and it was a breeze to work with. Certainly worth the few $ it cost just in ease of use. One recommendation I would add is to get the correct MB Covex Flower lug nut socket ( Amazon )to remove the lug nuts. A 17mm socket can easily deform the wheel lug nuts and then your in a very difficult situation to get them off. Besides you’ll probably use that socket more often than any other tool on these cars.

How do you know which break pad needs replacing, on my w222 it doesn’t say which ones worn out?

You have to look on the thickness of the brake pad or you notice your foot goes all the way down when stopping your car. You have to change both sides of the car even if one side of the cars brake pad worn more than the other side

I try to put the car in pad replacement mode, however, it did not correct the first time and won't make engage to try it again. Have you ever had this issue?

No. Make sure your hood is closed as well as your doors and try the procedure again. Make sure to check your brake released. Make sure you have a brick in front and back of your tires for safety. Try the procedure again.

@@WayneARobertson so my RR brake pad fell off while driving, and since it is missing, the pad replacement function cannot fully engage with that being out of alignment.

Yes when you buy the brake pad they come with it. Their is a thread locking grease on the tip of bolt for the one time use installation.

Need to replace brakes on a GLB 250. Could not get it to go into brake service mode. Tried many times, watched several videos. It simply won't do it.

Different models are different. The 2016 S550 that I had is totally different from the 2018 S560 I have now. You will have to experiment

If you have keyless go otpion. Take the start button off and put the key inside. then turn the ignition on and from there it will let you enter service mode. I had the same problem on my w222.

It's just that the software is not installed on my car and so far I don't know how to get it installed. The neighborhood Mercedes Benz dealer said that they use a scanner and don't deal with the software. Do you know who could install the software on my car? Henri

Hi, Wayne: This video is very helpful but I am discovering that my car does not have the service software loaded to enable the servicing of rear brakes and establish the fitting state. I bought my car used from an independent dealer. I have now loaded the mercedes,me connect software and paired the download but still no service rear brake function. I have contacted a nearby MB dealership but they say that they use their scan tool and don't deal with the software. I'm stumped. Do you know how to get the software loaded onto my 2019 S560? Help would be really appreciated.

If your car comes with electronic park brake then the software must be installed on it, within the service menu. I made 2 videos for changing rear brakes. This post what I'm looking at is for the 2018 S560, but I made another video before this video on the 2016 S550 Mercedes. The procedure is different to get into the service menu. Check that one out and let me know.

@swanlake1286 If you don't want to go to the dealership then try your local mechanic. I doubt they will be able to do it or a Geiko repair facility authorized to repair cars.

you should also change the brake oil....its brown ! and do some special graese on the brakepads.

Brown does not mean bad. Use a brake fluid test strip for copper comtamination, and a moisture meter, not the cheap pen type, to get the boiling point of the fluid.

Should have changed the rotors also the old ones will eat up the new brakes faster

Don't know. My rotors on the Honda trash hauler are original with 474k on them. I'm sure the S class is harder on the rotors, but pretty gentle on the brakes on the wife's '19 560, so I'm hoping to get 100k out of the rotors.

Just fyi that tool is really bad u can open that cap and use the regular tool, u can buy it for 10$ "Disc Brake Pad Spreader" so much easier
