The make getting old, stiff rubber boots back on the carb really easy, here are a few tips: 1) borrow your wife/girlfriend/your hair drier and gradually warm up the rubber boot for 1-3 minutes. Do not melt the boot, just get the entire boot warm and it gets nice and flexible. Then mount the carb. 2) as a smart extra step, add a tiny (supper thin) amount of silicone grease to the inner surface of the boot where it fits to the carb. Silicone grease will not attack the rubber and will last a long time. The thin coat of silicone grease makes it another 50% easier to get boots on or off. 3) smart mechanics always use both warmth and grease. Easy-peasy, no fuss, no muss.

Great video, I have a klx 300 with a 331cc big bore kit that I installed this carburetor, mine is a tm33 bored to 34mm by b&b cycle restoration, it has made a big difference in throttle response coming from the standard cv carburetor!

I just bought a 94 Dr250 and I'm doing the same thing with it. I got a whole kit from Mike at PowerBarn and I installed it just yesterday. Mine needs a bit of tuning since the kit is set up for the 350. I think my accelerator pump isn't adjusted correctly, because when I quickly open the throttle it just bogs, and if I hold it it dies. Slightly slower throttle twisting and the bike sounds good and mean. Can't wait to dig into it this afternoon.
@RidinDad3 жыл бұрын
Awesome man!! Happy tinkering lol

I’m doing my 90 dr250 now and am having g the same issue you were. What was your fix to stop the bog and get a quick response throttle?
@TheGamersRace8 ай бұрын
@@Alawicous The accelerator pump on that carb is non adjustable. In order to tune it, you'll have to either get an adjustable rod, or get creative. My bike had issues after about 1/2 throttle maintaining steady rpms, so I ended up selling the bike after a couple months of frustration. I believe that carb just provided too much air at higher rpms to properly regulate fuel for that engine. I would've rather spent more money and got a better overall bike than continue to mess with that one. That's exactly what I did, and sold the dr250 lol
@Alawicous8 ай бұрын
@@TheGamersRace I have had this bike for 10+ and just decided to rebuild the carb and since that it’s been a thorn in my side. Before that the bike was unbeatable and extremely dependable. Now I’m contemplating selling this and my Z125 for something else. UGH!!! What did you end up getting?
@TheGamersRace8 ай бұрын
@@Alawicous My original carb on my dr250 was damaged, so if I had that option I would have gone that route, but it wasn't really repairable so I tried doing the carb swap. Now I have a tw200 and a dr650 for on and off-road, and a crf450x with a street title, but only so I can jump between trails. It's not very good on road.

A pumper really wakes em up, especially with a cam n pipe. I put a CV pumper from a Nighthawk 250 on an 86’ XR200 and boy what a difference.
@RidinDad4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I heard so many good things about the pumper. Unfortunately that wasn’t the issue and it already had the pumper on it anyway. But that bike is gone. Way too much of a hassle for sure

@@RidinDad yeh you can only dump so much $
@RidinDad4 жыл бұрын
That was my issue lol. Probably could’ve got it running pretty good for pretty cheap in the long run but it needed all new seals all around the engine because oil was leaking out of everything and it had been abused so it just wasn’t worth my time
@markkaufman50313 жыл бұрын
NOT sure if this is helpful or not, but wondering about the issue with the float bowl screws stripping is the need for using a JIS screwdriver instead of a standard Phillips? Recently learned about these and had been using Phillips and stripping screw heads for years.

Bout to do install, I do not have the spacer with my tm33 carb sadly. Gonna throw some cardboard cut for mean time if not tight within boot. I’ve rebuilt top end to a wisco 385cc bor up, any suggestions for tuning before rippin my hair out?
@RidinDad2 жыл бұрын
Not at all man. Sorry lol. I had this bike for a very small amount of time
@Stinkymens3 жыл бұрын
Do you not need a manifold spacer for yours to fit? I bought the tm33 kit before and it included a cnc machined spacer but I remember when trying to install it before it was a major pain and a tight fit unlike stock vacuum carb which has space to come out. I'm gonna try getting that carb going this season cause I think I finally mastered jetting my stock carb to my exhaust and airbox mod.
@RidinDad3 жыл бұрын
Yeah there was a spacer/adapter that is in there. And you’re right lol there’s barely any space for it to come out. Huge pain!!

Do you know of a carb that will replace a Mikuni 42A21 pumper carb on a 1987 Suzuki DR200? I've been told since I just trail ride that a CV would work?
@RidinDad4 жыл бұрын
I mean I think it should? I’m not a carb genius. Only know what I know from this bike and from reading a ton of forumns and stuff. Pumper carbs generally have better quick response for the throttle which is what you’d want more of for off roading. I would stick with a pumper personally. How come you wanna switch?
@dgmenace734 жыл бұрын
@@RidinDad I bought the bike used and the carb was apart in a bag, very dirty and missing at least the pilot jet....I don't know if this matters but I finally got it cleaned and its a 42A20, then inside the bowl there is a K ? From what I have read and the pictures, its supposed to be a 42A21 so I need to figure out if this is the original carb or not now....smh.
@RidinDad4 жыл бұрын
