Oil drains from the frame to the sump when those sit. You have to start and idle for a bit and warm it up then check the oil or it reads low. If overfilled it will increase crank case pressure and blow something most likely out the vent n

The washers you found in the carb is called a "Dave's mod". The street versions were jetted very lean to pass emissions standards and standard carb settings weren't enough to make it run rich enough even after bigger jets. Looks like someone did the "mod" very poorly. I'd say a rejet and a slip on exhaust would make it run alot better.

Here in the UK if the registration document is lost it fairly straight forward to get an old machine re-registered (titled). Basically you just need proof of the machines age and to have the machine tested, what we call an MOT. Fill in a form send it all of with two cheques, one for a registration fee and one for road tax, to our DVLA. Get some insurance then its all good to go once the registration V5C comes through. And if a machine is over 40 years of age then it will eligible for free road tax and MOT exemption. But it is the owners/rider responsibility to make sure that the machine is road legal. 👍

When the bike sits a while the oil slowly fills the crankcase.. Turn it over and get the oil pumping and ot will fill back up the frame... Might be low still but i work on these often and ive put oil in before starting the bike then after it runs.. I check it then it was over filled. So know i take out the sparkplug and turn the motor over for a lil while maybe 20 kicks or turns with starter. Then check the oil

Look after your knees, especially the “ kicker leg.” I’ve owned a lot of dirt bikes ( lm old,..lol) and all of them in the 80s,( told you lm old!) we’re kick start only. 5 and 600 cc four strokes. They were complete pigs to start. Especially if you’ve drowned it in a river,or stalled it on a hill. Two of the worst bikes lve owned, were the Honda XR 600 and Yamaha TT 600. I fractured my knee trying to start the XR one morning. It kicked back and drove the knee up into the throttle. One month off work, and years of problems. The TT was no better. It was 2 strokes after that. ( yes,l kept riding, lol . Once it’s in your blood,..). Ive had one knee replacement, and the other one is just before Christmas. If you want to be able to chase your kids and kick footballs with them, take care of your knees! I couldn’t. Just sayin’,..

I know exactly why it had 3 washer under needle to richen up fuel mixture. Its because someone drilled holes in side of air box to add air flow , all those small circle vents on each side of air box. These bikes are jetted to run with the small intake tube under seat on air box and as soon as you remove that tube or drill holes in air box or remove the air box , it causes bike to run extremely lean. Lessons i learned after someone cut a large sqaure out of air box on my dr350. He should have went up in jet sizes instead of all the washers. Although it works

If the DR is anything like the DRZ you have to warm the engine up for 3 minutes before checking the dip stick or the dipstick won't show any oil on it.

I used to own two 1992 Suzuki DR 350. Those things were awesome but power wasn’t all their.

Also don't those have vacuum operated fuel petcocks? And that one vacuum port not being capped off on the carb is also an issue. Hard to rev cuz its already lean. Any throttle starves it out

Another good deal.. these bikes are quite robust if maintained well, electric start versions are obviously even better, fix her up and ride all day long 🍀👍🙏

The valve lash seemed way to lose to me bud. I can hear that ticking way to much... Good start point is .04 intake and .06 exhaust and also the air fuel seems way to much.. stick it at 2 1/4 turns out.

Check that air bleed screw, 3 1/3 turns is a bit much, usually 2 is max air you want

The first model of the DR350, and the first time that you ever worked on a DR350. Pretty cool.

When timing single cylinders no need for marks on the cam sprocket. Put it in TDC and the cam lobes must point upward like a V.

My xr 600 needs to run awhile before checking oil. If you added when cold it would smoke with the extra oil in the system

You can put an fcr 37 on these pretty easily. The off-road models had mikuni flat slide. The throttle needles would break. The fix was to put an o ring on top of the clip and screw the assembly back on to stop vibration. Great engine super reliable. Watch out for stator and pulse coil fails

That looked like a Mikuni CV street bike carb. I would like to see more Dual Sport stuff. Dual Sports are the best bikes and Suzuki did a good job with those DR bikes.
