Hello. You can see there were a couple of spots - by the edge of the sole and where the vamp meets the tongue. Not a problem if this happens, just touch up with a q-tip, which can fit in those tight spaces better than the normal applicator. Have fun with your project!

How long did you let the acnetone dry? And also how long for the leather dye to dry?
@javiershobbies7 ай бұрын
I'm not an expert to please take what I do with a grain of salt. I let the acetone dry anywhere from an hour to overnight. The dye I'm not very prescriptive, anywhere from 15-30 minutes to a couple of hours. I usually just go do something else while it is drying and come back afterwards. hope that helps

Hello Javier, thanks for covering TRg shoe cream, I am planning to purchase TRg, would you recommend this? I am looking for a shoe cream that will change the color of my shoes, does TRg has good pigments? Thanks

I’ve been looking fir a pair of burgundy boots for some time with no luck. Do you want to sell these, lol. They came out stunning!!! I just love the two tone effect. Just beautiful job!!!
@javiershobbies3 жыл бұрын
LoL, I'll take that as a compliment :) I really like those boots. That was my second dye job. Why don't you get a pair of light tan boots that you like the shape and experiment dyeing them yourself? Might be fun :) thanks!

I have a pair of boots( originally beige) they are made of some fabric I want to change the color to a soft brown but I don’t know how, I’m thinking on just stain them but I’m worried the fabric would not absorb the color even

Hello, I've never worked with fabric so don't have any advise on this, but here is a video I found on youtube on dyeing fabric. have fun! kzbin.info/www/bejne/kImpZJmDj8Shmbc

They look good. I was watching because I bought a pair of old Goodyear welted boots from ebay, very cheap, to have a go at restoring them and maybe doing a similar job on them, myself. Only thing I would say about the black toe patina is that I would probably have stopped earlier in the process after you'd done about 2 coats and 2 of the blending-in rub-offs. But then you kept applying more than I would but, then again, as you say (and you are correct): they're your boots, you can go ahead and do whatever pleases you the most. I have an either ambitious, or foolhardy, plan to maybe use a mahogany, overall and maybe blend in a little dark brown toe and heel patina with a littler black blended up from the welt. But I don't know if I could make this look good without an airbrush. Maybe we'll see (if I still feel like it's possible, nearer the time, or I still have the balls to go ahead and start it, heh). Thank you for the demonstration and tips. I will be sure to leave you a like.

thanks, have fun with your project! The boots that were the inspiration for me to do this were actually pretty much black and it was only when the sun hit them that you could see red on them, so what I had in mind was black with some red, rather than red with some black. it ended up something in between.

Is it impossible to change the color of black shoes to a different color?
@javiershobbies2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's near impossible to change a black pair of shoes to a different color. It is easier to go from lighter color to darker color. I'v only seen one successful black shoe change. The person was able to remove a lot of the black dye and turn the shoes light gray and then dye it navy blue. A lot of it will depend on how much of the black you can remove. What may be done, and I'm not sure what color combinations might be successful, would be to try an acrylic shoe paint. But paint sits on the surface so you may have cracking and peeling down the road.

I just bought a pair lunar grey high shine solovair darbys. I would prefer them to be darker (these were on offer which is why I got them) is there a way of changing the colour of them?
@javiershobbies2 жыл бұрын
Hi Syl, I'm not familiar with Solovair shoes so please take what I say here with a grain of salt. The name says "hi shine" which often times means there is some sort of coating on the shoe. I looked at the Solovair website and did not see any description that would tell me if there is any coating. They do recommend you use their renovating cream which is for aniline leather and contains lanolin, so this is good indication the shoe does not have a coating, as if it did the cream would not be absorbed. If it doesn't have a coating, the same process you see in this video would apply to your shoe and you can change it to a darker color. Put some drops of water on the toe, if it gets absorbed it doesn't have a coating.

Can paint affect the breathability of leather boots?
@LouisWinthorpe622 Жыл бұрын
It's not paint it's dye so it won't seal the surface of the leather. Rather, it penetrates down into the leather and dyes the 'fibres', down to a few fractions of a millimetre or a millimetre deep, probably, depending on how much you use. I don't think dye affects the breathability, at all. Shoe cream, probably, has a little more possibility of sealing off a little bit of the breathability of it and then, I imagine, a wax polish will reduce the breathability of leather, even more. But dye won't. Dye will just penetrate into the leather fibres while it's in it's dissolved and suspended in solution (while it's in its liquid form) and then, when the solvent evaporates, the fibres of the leather will be dyed by the pigments but still retain the much same nature and properties, and still be porous, like before. Nothing left behind to create a sealing film over the top, or 'gum up' the fibres, like a paint would. I only mentioned cream and wax polishes because they would have a slightly greater chance of affecting the breathability by coating or slightly gumming up, over the top of, or in between the fibres and pores of the leather, than a dye would. I've had a thing painted on a leather jacket, before, in my youth, but otherwise, you don't really, ever, want to use paint on a leather, doubly, especially, a shoe. It will block the breathable, porous, nature of the leather and it will craze, crack and crumble with the movement of the leather and the passage of time. I just had time to write, so I thought that I would write.
