Came for Kirsty's pretty face, stayed for the Colossus of Cobbler's dulcet tones, tricked me into learning about dying a leather shoe. Something I didn't even know people did. I mean most of that isn't true, been a sub for quite a while now, but truly didn't know people dyed their leather shoes. I may not own many nice leather shoes, but I damn sure know how to take care of them properly now thanks to this channel. Looks like completely different shoe at the end, amazes me what people who know their trade can do. And it's always nice to see the behind the camera talent as well as the on camera talent.

Hi so good to see a real cobbler at work. I need to know if you have a way of stretching a new pair of leather boots. I have had 3 pairs of Hotters extra wide boots and they saved this old girl's life. Hotters decided to change the toe box because women want to look petite and not comfortable. It is amazing what a few millimetres does. If you can help, this would be a life saver and before I forget, I do wear orthoptics, but wore them in my old boots to. Thank you for coming on KZbin, because I find the other technical places a bit confusing. Take care and hope you can help.

Hours of work into some tradie looking boots and I have these GORGEOUS red boots that actually suit my feet and go with my wardrobe, even hoodies on daggy days. ❤ Thanks again for sharing knowledge and values that are often forgotten in this age of consumerism and fast fashion.

He was not kidding when using three different products to remove any and all old conditioning. I learned that the hard way myself with a leather jacket. It looked like a Rorschach test after my first attempt because I didn't strip it down properly. I ended up using saddle soap, a wipe down with water, let it dry and then hit it hard with acetone. That did the trick and the next application of color took perfectly.

I’ve been using kiwi on my work boots When I get my fancy pair of going to town boots, I’m definitely gonna have to get that better , polish and conditioner.
@andersjjensen6 ай бұрын
Kiwi is not outright trash tier, but their "trick" is that you end up using a lot of it. My job requires me to wear reasonably shined shoes, and in my experience it's not more than 10-20% more expensive in the long run to use the really good stuff like Saphir. It is, however, cheaper if you consider you own labour worth anything. It applies easier, it shines easier and a treatment lasts longer, so you can just give them a quick once-over with the brush to shine them up many many times before you need to treat them again.
@dude284056 ай бұрын
@@andersjjensen agreed but for my work boots that Destroyed in a year it will be just fine
@andersjjensen6 ай бұрын
@@dude28405 Yeah, if you work in abrasive conditions the leather will get worn though no matter what you do. A bit of Kiwi will help a bit against moisture ingress and make crap stick less, but you can't apply enough of anything to keep them alive.

Not all leathers can be dyed. Only naked leathers (a type of leather that has no surface treatment or finishes other than leather factory applied dyeing) found mostly on more expensive shoes. Cheaper shoes usually have finished treated leather with a very thin plastic finish applied on the surface of the leather which the Saphir Renomat solvent or rubbing alcohol will not be able to remove sufficiently or at all so the Fiebing’s dye that you apply will not be able to penetrate well or at all and you’ll end up with a big mess.

Kristy looks weapons grade naughty with that choker and 'tude. The video was good too :P Ok, in all seriousness: The shoes turned out perfect once the cream was applied. Right after the dye was dry I thought everything looked at bit off. Perhaps because they were so incredibly mat from having all wax stripped, or perhaps because the cream adjusted the color just slightly. Now they'd also fit a whole lot more of my wardrobe. In fact, I don't have anything that goes with light tan.

Thanks for this detailed tutorial. I am also dying my white shoes into black and I have a couple of questions. I used a deglazer to get rid of the protective layer on the shoes before I applied dye. However, while applying the deglazer I may have caused a bit of uneven surface. Now after dying I can see those uneven parts. Should I now go on with a black shoe polisher to smoothen out the surface, filing in tiny "holes"? I d also like to apply a finisher by angelus at the end. Can I add it after polishing the shoes? Thanks very much :)

Ok great video by the way but how can you lighten a darker brown Leather, as in a perfect fitting Boot that’s a bit to dark.? I have an odd size 12 narrow Foot and finding the right Boot was a task but had to get a darker brown Leather than I’d like. I’ve seen people sanding the Leather and Alcohol but haven’t tried either yet. You absolutely are a professional and I thought I would ask if it’s possible to take the Dye out slightly or lighten the Leather with another Leather Dye. Thank you Guys..

May I get your expert opinion because I am on the struggle bus. I just bought a pair of suede leather booties in a brandy/chestnutty color and I am trying to take them to a dark brown with blue undertones instead of the red undertones it currently has. I am leaning towards Saphir in dark brown however the Internet does not seem to have any examples of color swatches 😢 I have been perusing people’s videos using the dye to see if they’re using the color I want to achieve. The reason I’m leaning towards the Saphir is because I saw a video on The elegant Oxford’s channel using it. I considered going the cheaper route with Fiebings which claims it gives a flexible finish; however, I just watched a video of a guy comparing different brands and fiebings was one of them. It turned the leather sample hard and rigid. The video was 2 years old so maybe they’ve improved the formula? I see you’re using Fiebings in this video so I’ll trust your expert advice. Anyway all that to say, with your familiarity with all the brand’s colors, exposure to their undertones and adeptness with color theory, can you pleasee tell me what dye I should buy? I would greatly appreciate your help!!! 😄
