Informative video. I drilled out the fender liner plastic studs. Replace them with plastic push rivet. This keeps from pulling the fender. But remove tire. If you remove fender I highly recommend cutting 3/4" off each of the fender bolts. As with most JK bolts use anti seize and especially on the fender bolts. I own a 07 that I have driven 414k miles. I got the CEL for the EGR code, but it went off on its own when I changed the oil (Pennzoil Ultra Synthetic 5W20) and started using Mobil gasoline. I also changed the Air filter, spark plugs, wires, swapped out 3 quarts of ATF+4, did the diffs and Xfer case. Bought a 2010 with 58K miles, spotless.

@@FloridaJeepRides Faulty EGR code came back, have a Crown unit on order. Did you have issue with auto trans dipstick in the way ? Or manual trans ? Some people said put a belt on the dipstick and pull it towards driver side to make access to the bolt easier.
@queensapphire7717 Жыл бұрын
I changed the valve last week, both 8 mils snapped, but who cares, they are stuck the valve that is coming off, and the Crown unit ($125), comes with new screws and both gaskets, I do not trust the $40 Amazon parts. I took off the EGR tube and the wheel, to make more room, and once I had the “easy” 10 Milly off, I stuck an L shaped metal bar in the the valve opening and “cracked” that hidden 10 mill bolt, worked like a charm, a small ratcheting 10mil box wrench was my savior to get it off, my dipstick would not budge. The red clip for the sensor was a breeze, not a problem for me, it came right off, it’s a “slide” clip, so push it with your finger, and wala came right off, I just had to put the wrench in place on the top 10mil screw before I hand tightened, as it would not get past the dipstick tube unless can be turned 4-5X by hand, which I could not. My old valve was locked solid, sprayed it down with MAF cleaner, no dice. When putting the tube back on, do not tighten all the way, you need some play to lineup the bolts when putting back on the tube as it does not perfectly line up putting things back together. I disconnected the negative battery terminal, as I do when working with anything with a sensor. I’ve driven 100 miles or so, and the CE lite is still off, hopefully stays that way. If it happens again within a year or so, will replace with OEM and get a new tube also.

Gonna attempt this again as first time last year was an intense struggle on the back bolt. Sadly it was the day before a week vacation to Gatlinburg so I never got around to it again and have been driving my company vehicle since but it still needs to be done. Also if I may ask, That ground strap at 4:18ish in front of the back cylinder where does it go to and from? I have the same one but the top end was sitting loose by the battery box.
@FloridaJeepRides2 жыл бұрын
Twisting the EGR valve to get the back bolt loose is one of the best tracks I ever saw. The strap I think goes down toward the back of the block somewhere I can’t see it because there’s no room to peek around the corner. I put an additional ground from the alternator mount to the negative terminal. I hoped that that would fix one of the issues. Since this is all been done I have had the fuel pump and fuel filter replaced and that may have been pumping junk into everything and causing the problem all along.
@inspector8572 Жыл бұрын
That strap goes on the hood. Should be a stud and nut just to the right and up from the battery box on underside of hood.

I've replaced every sensor on the motor, new 02 sensors, new catalytic convertor, coil pack plugs, wires and the g104 grounds were all redone. If this don't do it then its off to the garage. Did I mention I also replaced the throttle body and added additional grounds wires? 😆 wish me luck. So in the end what were your symptoms and what fixed it?

@@jaronkanorr9995 Yes that did fix the code, but the initial problem is probably in the head gasket. It appears I may have a very small leak in the center right hand cylinder. And that may be causing other components to go bad. Right now the red Jeep is at the shop and they are scratching their heads as to what’s going on with it. Currently trying to find a 3.8 L motor is a challenge.

Thanks for the video. I really hate working on Jeeps. I either have terrible luck or everything is a pain in the ass. There's always something wrong. They're so unreliable & cheaply made. The front trackbar mount welded to the axle just breaks off on stock jeeps that don't even off-road. A buddy of mine in college had his 4WD engage randomly on the highway, locking the tires and destroying the axles & diffs. I don't know how there are enthusiast clubs for these terrible vehicles. From an engineering perspective, they're objectively bad, but people put up with it and don't seem to notice or care.

Good video, that red clip is pathetic. I changed my Crankshaft sensor and the worst part of the job was the red clip! Although the CS sensor is positioned almost as badly as the EGR valve, they must think hard as to where to place the parts when designing these vehicles. As to the engine light, you need to clear it by taking the negative lead on the Jeep off.
