So, I just watched this video and then did it on my 2001 1100cc Shadow Spirit... I think the video actually took me longer to watch than actually doing the change. Very helpful, also super easy to do!

@funbro1, thank you for making all of these videos on the Shadow Sabre.I recently purchased a used 02 Vt1100c2 and the bike is in need of a little service. Your videos will be a great help in learning basic maintenance on the bike. I have zero experience on working with bikes but your videos break everything down and make it less intimidating to attempt some of the things that I need to do.

Couldnt seem to get my flathead in to pry the caliper so I pulled the pin and both pads dropped. I used the old pads to pry the piston into the caliper after getting frustrated a minute but worked like a charm and the "inside" pad was actually quite easy to set into place. It was a tight fit at first and thought i'd need to pry some more until I checked to find the pad already in position. Pushed the pin the rest of the way through and wrenched it in, then the cap thing and thought, "thats it? seriously?" Took me all of 20 minutes (should have been ten had I worked the caliper more before pulling the pin) and I had perfect brakes in the front. The rear look even easier as there is plenty of room to access it. Oh yeah.....did it in the dark with a little flashlight. So easy thanks to the tutorial! Thanks Fix it Bob....I mean How-to Bob!

I have a 1996 Shadow VT1100C2. Jay you are right. As soon as I took the pads off the retainer spring fell out. Even with my Manual it was difficult to figure out where the retainer spring went. The retainer spring goes on the caliper on the top side. This video was a great help in all else. Thank you Bob.......

@@funbro1 no problem. I have a question. When compressing the caliper, do you need to remove the cap to the master cylinder to provide room for the brake fluid to flow?
@funbro15 жыл бұрын
You can if you want but my experience is that you can never get the reservoir all the way full with the angle of the handle bars so there will always be enough room for the extra. Hope this helps.

Mine has a metal clip not mentioned here on the bottom side spanning both pads. Dues that just pull off or come off when you loosen the caliper? Mine is a 2006 shadow vt600cd but the caliper looks identical. TIA.

My stock break pads have metal plates clipped to them. I don't see Bob putting the plates on the new pads in this video. Do I use them or not?
@funbro13 жыл бұрын
You are correct Bob did not put the plates on his new pads because when Bob did the brake job the plates were already removed. If I were Bob, and I am, I would use the plates if I had them. They will keep the brakes from making noises further down the road. Hope this helps, thanks for watching.

Does Bob recommend I use the anti rattle clip with the new pads?I have it clipped in and I'm getting a buzzing noise when I squeeze the brakes.. it sounds like an electrical buzz..(I know it's not really electric, but it sounds like that) ... I bought these brakes because you made it look so simple. once the anti rattle clip fell out, I could not get the brakes back in without them making all this weird buzzing.

Jay Damhar They were either gone when I got the bike or in such bad shape that they really didn't do anything so instead of ordering them and waiting I put it back and have been riding for thousands of miles now without any problems. BTW if you don't have the spring the Honda part number is 45108-ML7-922 ($5.22) and the retainer part number is 45112-MT4-006 ($4.58) Hope this helps, Happy riding.

how do you get the pinch bolts out of the front fork there's caps? but they're not hex heads or anything? ~~~~~~help~~~~~

Hi, I have an 02 Shadow Spirit VT1100C. One difference on my MC front brake pads (they appear to be sintered pads) is that the back surface of the pad that goes against the two caliper pistons has what appears to be a non metallic surface on it. Similar in color to the front friction surface on the front part of the pad that goes directly against the rotor surface. Are you or anyone on the comment section of this video familiar with this type of pad? I need to know for certain if the pad in question should not have brake grease/lubricant on the back surface given the above info.
@funbro13 жыл бұрын
I personally would not put grease/lubricant on the back surface of the pad, too close to the disc and it does not need it. Thanks for watching.

While most of the same steps and processes can be used to do the same job on a 750, there are differences in the parts that may make the job slightly different. Thanks for watching.

Bob, I follow both your videos. Very good, Only thing I encounter issues with metal clips falling down LOL. The front clip got damage when I insert the pad. Do you know if is safe to run the bike without the clip? I already order the new clips but I'm scare to run the bike, something doesnt feel right, a little spongy. I bleed the line and got better but the clip? Just want to hear if you had any experience with that. For everyone else, I had remove the caliper to take the bad clip out (No fun)

Just to be safe I would recommend waiting till the new clips come. Thanks for watching.

AMAZING how easy you make it look but when i just did mine it fought me the whole way and took me about an hour and a half to do....and now there is some metal piece that fell off the back that i can't figure out where the hell it goes and now the new pads are squeezing so tight against the disc that the wheel won't turn...im sure it's bc of the metal piece i was telling you about....i remember seeing it on the bottom and back of the pads and disc but once it fell off i can't figure out how it goes back on....FRUSTRATED!!!! >:(
@funbro18 жыл бұрын
If this is your first set of brakes being changed the metal piece may be the brake quieter that helps stop the brakes from squeaking if they are flat pieces. If they are formed pieces they would be a type of spring return that helps the pads from rubbing on the rotors when not in use. If it is the flat piece I removed mine 2 brake changes ago and use a disc brake quiet product to do the same thing. If it is the brake return spring you may be able to go to Honda's website and pull up a parts diagram and determine where and how it goes from there. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

Did you use the metal brake pad clip on plates when you changed brakes?
@Bort_Bortly6 жыл бұрын
Hate to say this, but I ruined the pad pin following this video. Previous owner put loctite (or something freezing the pin in place) in there which meant that I was stripping the 5mm socket instead of twisting out the pad pin. Stripped my wrenches too - two of them. Now it has to go to a shop to drill out the pad pin and I had to order a new caliper pin. None of this is the video maker’s fault, but caveat emptor viewers: don’t ruin your parts - even though it *looks* easy.
@funbro16 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that this happened.
@Bort_Bortly6 жыл бұрын
Certainly not your fault! Only wish I had known in advance how tricky those pins can be! Lesson learned and will be more methodic next time ;)
@shobud75616 жыл бұрын
You'll be lucky if the pad pin doesent stick in the caliper with the lock tight applied to the threads , believe me I know ... Who ever replaced the rear pads on the bike I bought did just what you did . I had to remove the caliper and drill out the the pin starting with a small bit first and work my way up until you could almost see the threads in the caliper... I was very lucky as the service tech at Honda said it couldnt be done without damaging the caliper threads..... Rule of thumb " just snug the pad pin down " the purpose of the pin plug is to keep the pin from backing out.....
@funbro16 жыл бұрын
This is not the first set of brakes I have replaced on this motorcycle, Best rule of thumb is to use blue lock tight as it is removable. Maybe someone used the red type lock tight on yours but I have never had the issue that you speak of. Hope this helps, Thanks for watching.
@shobud75616 жыл бұрын
funbro1And this ain't my first rodeo, I've been a tech 40 some years... All I'm saying is the lock tight is not nessaseray . Thats why the threaded plug is used after the pin ....
@funbro16 жыл бұрын
I’ve never had the problems you are having and this is for sure not my first rodeo, cowboy. All I’m saying is that an extra layer of insurance is a good thing when working on brakes and when used correctly lock tight doesn’t hurt.
