@@benegesserit9838 Price is a funny old thing. A local HiFi retailer near me (Audio Emotion) is moving premises so I had a nosey around, looking for inspiration. They routinely sell Streamers over £10k, Amps over £25k and TURNTABLES up to £150000! And that doesn't include Tonearm and Cartridge. For me Value for Money is more important than absolute price. The Delorean premium isn't worth a penny as far as I'm concerned. But the EVO150 'standard' seems like a decent value proposition.

I know, right? When it comes to hi-fi, most would buy separates. It is just the smarter thing to do. This way, if one item in the system breaks, you are not down the whole system. Granted I see situations for having an all in one system, like for a computer set up. Such as the Wiim amp combo, which is about $300. If something breaks on that, it isn't difficult to replace it. Which is another reason why it would be stupid to sink so much money into an all in one system. This Cambridge unit reminds me of the Bang and Olufsen systems which were very proprietary and generally needed to be connected together with their own items. They were overpriced (of course) and when they broke, which was quite frequently, they were very hard to fix and many technicians don't want to touch them. Their electronics, sound wise, was no better than Bose. The B&O speakers were a bit better as many used SEAS and Peerless drivers, but they had horrible crossover designs and the cabinets were very resonate, save for the small CX series speakers, which are good. So, yeah, I called this one out as an April Fool joke as I doubt anyone here would seriously buy that thing, unless they had money to burn.

@@scottgremko4426 No, it's not. I just came from the Cambridge site right now and it is $3199.00. However, if it DID go on a sale for $1000, that would prove my point about greedy troll manufactures over charging for what an item is really worth. My guess is that Cambridge is making that box for around $350 to $500, and they hype it up that it is worth $3000. No, I am sorry, but for commanding that kind of premium for a box that isn't even the surface area of a record album, they will have to do some proving to me as to why they feel that thing is worth $3k. ...And I betcha they can't. At any rate, I kind of figured that this was a joke and an April fool on us by Randy, although, he hasn't confessed to us by now. Still, I take it as a joke and seriously doubt anyone would be stupid enough to buy this thing at 3k or even 1k, when, at best it should be selling for $800 or less.

Sure is a sexy beast but the price point has me scratching my head a bit. Three grand plus-plus is an awful lot to pay for an all-in-one when the sonic gains over a much less expensive competitor could be sought through the separates market with the added advantage of increased flexibility. I bought the SMSL AO300, essentially on this channel's recommendation, and while I'm sure this product sounds better, why wouldn't I spend (for example) $1500 on a Naim XS3 and then back-fill the missing functionality? For the same overall outlay it seems to me like it would be much easier to beat the AO300 unambiguously if one was approaching the problem in a modular fashion. I get $300 all-in-one's and I get $1,000 all-in-one's, but I just don't see how a $3,300 all-in-one makes sense.
@nc3419
@nc3419 9 ай бұрын
That makes sense for some while this makes sense for others. While your way allows one to update one component at a time, makes it easier to re-sell too I think, those wanting an all in one unit probably want less clutter, and will accept an all in one knowing it has a shorter lifespan and will either sell it for less concern of returned value, give it away or throw it away. You don't buy this with the intention of keeping it longer than separates. More expensive, probably. If you have the income, doesn't matter.

@Evil_Peter

Separates isn't always better since a significant part of the component budgets will be taken up by redundant components, not least the cases which often are the most expensive individual component. A very experienced hifi reviewer I once spoke to had the rough guideline that integrated amps were generally the best option up to about €10000 just because of those redundant components. Above that he felt that the component budgets were so high that it didn't really matter. I have no experience with this particular product, or really with these kind of all-in-one products in general, but it's worth keeping in mind how expensive some components are.

There is an Achiles heel to an all in one units .... when one little module goes bad and you send it to be fixed , you lose the entire system ... where as if you buy separate modules you can send out to repair or replace the faulty unit and meantime the rest of your system still works. Also as @Mate2Frio mentioned if the embedded software becomes no longer supported or obsolete your system is dead in the water.

There may be a few folks who can, but any detected differences in quality of sound would probably be small. Thus, for the vast majority of listeners, including audiophiles, they'll get better sound with, say, spending $1k for budget Emotiva amplification and the rest ($5k) on speakers rather than splitting $6k evenly. Funny, a few months ago I read in an british audio magazine that all-in-one devices are not the best audio solution. It has been confirmed that a DAC in the amplifier tends to reduce the sound performance of the preamplifier in the device. A very respected british audio brand received criticism for the first time about the sound performance of their largest integrated amplifier a few years ago (it had an internal DAC). The DAC was removed from the successor device. The older versions from a bestselling integrated amplifier from a famous japanese brand, which are identical except for the integrated DAC, sounded much better than the newer versions with Dac. Furthermore, not only DACs are installed in such devices, but also streamers with a WiFi antenna and receiver that literally scream “beam into me” All of this at a price that is higher than excellent individual components that would do the job much better and would also behave better against heat development. Not to mention the fact that the streamer in the device will probably no longer be up to date in a few years. These all-in-one devices cost less to manufacture and transport than individual components. If their prices were lower, you could understand it, but the opposite is the case! The DMC logo has absolutely nothing to do with the device and I just find it embarrassing, even though I'm a boomer. "Cheap" Audio Man, what happened to you? Greetings from Germany, Peter

If it's as good as my Cambridge CXA81 I would be happy. I beleive it has the same DAC chip so I wouldn't gain anything there but with 70wpc more power, that couldn't hurt. The biggest bonus is having a great built in streamer. The biggest drawback to it is it's all in one, so if there is a problem, say 5 years down the road, how fixable will it be. Everybody is reviewing this product right now and everybody appears to like it, it might be a good idea to check it out. I guess the cool factor about an all in one system is the ability to set it on a chair side table where you can actually see the display and just run speaker cables to your speakers and an HDMI cable to the unit. I think I'll stay with my CXA81 and my Node2i streamer and look at my tablet to control it.

As a most important Gen-X’er you were likely still in your nappys when the DeLorean came onto the scene so you will have no recollection of what a weird, short lived, low run, dud of a car is was and one that was wrapped in controversy thanks to the man himself. So I can’t understand why Cambridge would choose it for some sort of marketing collab. Unless, of course, someone is soon to try to reinvent the car, or maybe some movie sequel. And then there is the price, as many have commented on. Yikes, $4500 CDN and it is still just the old Evo 150 (could be wrong, haven’t done a deep dive into the spec). I will certainly pass. And I hate to say it, cuz I have enjoyed your vids over the years, but you seem to be becoming more of a infomercial.

It looks nice but doesn't have the analog connections that I need. I run two turntables a cassette deck and a reel to reel. I do have a CD player that I haven't used in years, so that's not even hooked up. I do have a wire to plug my phone in for streaming music if I'm busy cleaning or whatever. My vintage Kenwood KR 9600 fits the bill right now. I run a Carver power amplifier that runs my two Klipsch mains and the brand new Klipsch RP 1600 subwoofer. I love the functionality of the Kenwood, but I would like suggestions for possibly pairing a different receiver or preamp for my setup. Does anything come to mind?

I have the standard EVO-150 (same thign without the Delorean trim. I bought it refurbished from Cambridge's Ebay account. I couldn't be happier with it. The wase of use is worth any tradeoffs having an all in one unit. I have it paired with a pair of Martin Logan Ethos speakers and a PSA subwoofer. I've been chasing the audio bug for years and i can honestly say i have zero desire or itch to make any further upgrades at this point.

When I saw they were releasing this a couple of weeks back, I thought how cool it looks. You're the first person I know of to review this, so I was eager to hear what you thought. I have the regular Evo 150 (which I love), it's intuative and easy to use, not so full on and spec heavy like the Eversolos. They took the best bit of the Delorean (the brushed Aluminum and front grill) and made this already lovely looking piece and turned it into a real design piece.

Finally got a USB input on the Cambridge streamer/DAC, but the price tag is intangible admittedly. Again, I need to remind cheapaudioman that this show is no longer a dedicated budget audio source, but rather an indication of its significant growth. Question: How does this compare with the Wiim amp? I know the Wiim only offers 60 watts per channel into 8 ohms, but for those who don't need to drive two sets of speakers simultaneously, the Wiim amp is indeed more than sufficient. So, I wonder how the Wiim amp ($300) stacks up against the Evo 150 ($3000 on sale)?
