Whenever you are dealing with bearings or bushings that are an interference fit try to use heat and cold to your advantage. You could of heated up the area of the frame where the bushing was going with a hot air gun (so you wouldn't burn off the paint) and you could of kept the bushings in the freezer for a few hours. This will expand/shrink the parts to give you a slight bit more clearance and they would fit together. Then when both parts returned to room temperature they would be back to being very snug (interference).

Hi Sarah. You need a 6mm (possibly1/4") cap head bolt for the steering wheel boss. The bolt head sits in the bigger hole and tightens against the column. You can get mushroom clamps to fit the seat and if you search up Honda Cadet engine mount you will probably see some UK kart parts but it will give you some ideas on what might work. Looking forward to seeing how this goes when it's finished.

Dear Sarah, It's also so much easier to drill a hole with a sharp drill bit. Aluminium is the correct pronunciation. Alumina is a material made during the manufacture of aluminium. I also notice the steering column support is of set from the centre line. But it would be nice if the steering column was in line with the driver.

Step / unibit for drilling TSC sells nuts bolts by the pound. On the steering column, the different hole size is for a shoulder bolt. That way it's thicker going through the steering shaft, with no play. Cheers:):):)

From another stainless steel bolt user, looking great. I know sometimes you have to use a particular grade and stainless is not possible but it’s nice whenever you can. The cart will be far better than new because of the care you take in your work. The quality will be remembered long after the price has been forgotten. This saying applies to Sarah projects. Thanks for giving Pecos Hank a shout out, he’s my favorite storm chaser and small creatures crossing the road saver. Both of you are kind hearted and it’s probably why you enjoy his channel.🐧🐧🐧🐧

The angle of the engine is for racing (gas runs down hill faster than level) but you have to change your oiling inside of the engine when you do that. That means you have to open up a brand new engine and remove the rod cap for one with a slinger. Remove the old oil system. While you’re in there remove the governor and replace it with a bolt with a good bit of silicone. The clutch goes on with sprocket to the inside. Get a guard so when you break or throw a chain it doesn’t rip all of the skin off your body on the right side. If you set your engine at the angle, get ready to burn you elbow.

My knowledge of the degree engine mount is not for tire clearance but for moving the oil level towards the front of the engine case and helps prevent the crank from slapping the oil when it's filled without reducing the capacity. It makes more difference the faster you rev them up. I've built several of the predator and honda engines. We had one that ran a either a .265. or .275 cam, hand port, billet piston and rod, shaved head, big carb, blah blah blah.... You get the idea, big build and really high compression that made well into 20+hp at 9,000 rpm. Was really happy and screamed at 9,500. Cart was a literal death trap... But gosh damn it was fun!
@kayfelix5054

About the aluminium skid plate. Mount the screws the other way around, because of ground contact. Add rubber washers between the frame and the plate, and rubber washers and big washers made of steel on the top. The holes have to be way larger as the screws. Now "your" frame is to rigid. Carts are fast while cornering with a soft frame. Totally different to a car. Carts are like the "british" style of making a car fast, not the "German" style

Remember to open engine and remove govener. Glue a bolt into the crankcase hole. I think the valve springs from 140 are harder so allow higher revs without bounce.

Look into a Skid Plate kit to help protect that paint. I like the KartLift kits (Comet Karting sells them). For bushings & hardware, look at McMaster-Carr. Fantastic website & huge selection plus fast delivery. The steering wheel mount is designed for an Allen Cap Screw - the Head will fit inside the larger diameter hole & the threads will come through the smaller hole. If you're using a countersink bolt it probably won't seat correctly.... or the steering column hole is worn out. Comet has new columns reasonably priced
@simoncrawford2240
@simoncrawford2240 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Sarah, great videos as always. Just want to say that the steering wheel should be fixed with a cap head bolt, with the head going through the bigger hole, and the thread to match the smaller hole. This holds to boss tight on the column, if you drill the hole out and go through with a longer bolt , it won’t hold onto the column. Hope that makes sense. Keep up the good work 👍🏁

Maybe the hole in the steering shaft collar is close enough to the tap drill size to tap the bottom hole and then put a jam nut on it. Double retention for extra safety. 😉 Also I wonder if you could maybe ask the barbecue guys to make a center cap for the steering wheel that could be anodized with a cut out on some standoffs to show the metal beneath it for contrast (shadows or shiny glinting depending on angle of view) that covers the stainless bolts. Adds flair too...you need to have some flair.
