Changing wheel centres from 12stud tractor to fit 10stud truck.

In this video I change some tractor wheel rims from 12 stud to 10 stud.
The old centre hole had to be cut out bigger to make room for the new bolt pattern using the gas torch and a simple home made circle cutter. After cutting out and cleaning up with the grinder, the new 10 stud pattern was drawn up in CAD and then cut out of 15mm plate on the cnc plasma.
The new centre was test fitted onto a spare axle in the yard.
The centres were then ground up making a clean surface to weld, the paint ground off by wheel rims, centres laid in and measured to make sure that they were in the middle then tack welded into position.
The brake drum was then test fitted to check for clearance before fully welding in on both sides.
Thanks for watching!
Hope you enjoyed the video.

Another nicely done alteration, looks to be a four wheel axel set are you doing two more or was it because these two are fitted with brake drums. I see your Dad in the background again would love some time to hear the history of your farm workshop and his history of the farm . Nice looking Shorthorns you have raised pass that on to your Dad too.

Reminds of the saying, "Improvisation is the mother of invention". Many on KZbin can do good work with a full workshop full of machine tools and equipment, much fewer can do the same working with what they have got, an entirely different ball game.

I thought it would've been better to cut the new ring c/w the stud holes and then cut the hole in the rim disc (centre) to fit the new ring so it fits flush, then grind the channel between the 2 pieces to form a groove to aid the welding. Bearing in mind that electric arc weld is actually casting new metal into the groove (which may be harder and brittle compared with the rest of the wheel) and the last thing it needs is any sudden shocks which could cause cracking. I'd be interested to hear from others.
