As your opponent, would it have been correct to chose to be on the draw, knowing what you were playing?

Nope, it will always be the same as being on the play, except that you start the game with 1 extra card. When the dredge is on the play, he just passes without doing nothing and you take the "first turn of the game" with a draw on the draw step. The manaless dredge builds always rely on being on the play. Also you may let thoughtseizes or other discards spell on the deck so that you discard something on turn 1. It's effectively a timewalk since the opponent will need to take 1 extra turn (of course it doesn't to anything if you use it afterwards, but the upside is just too insane).

Why not save the probe to dredge when he tries to eat the troll with DRS in the last game? Like you did with street wraith earlier.

Git probe is a sorcery not an instant, so LSV wouldn't be able to do it in response to the DRS trigger

I feel like your opponent hitting your bridges or dread returns with surgical would have been more effective. What does surgical ideally hit from the dredge deck?

For dredge its incredibly dependent on what the yard looks like when you surgical. I'm not the biggest fan of surgical on the first dredger but it's not the worst option. If he let LSV be on the play i might have been a bit more inclined to do that, but i may have just waited at least one more turn. The second surgical was imo still way to aggressive. I would ideally only be this aggressive with surgical if i was playing an extremely fast deck, mostly combo. 100% would have waited for Ichorid/Bridge/Dread Return. Those are probably the most valuable targets for surgical.

If you're on a budget it's not a bad option. I don't like the Balustrade Spy all in version, i play a version with maindeck Whirlpool Rider, and 3 Force. SB has 1 Force and a playset of Disrupting Shoal. It really was metagamed for a Miracles meta. These days i'm not sure if Shoals are worth it and Rider could probably be exchanged for Drake now. Regardless i wouldn't ever play a version without Force's.

The Forceless builds work but you'll probably lose more games you wouldnt have otherwise. Its way more glass cannon. Do you really enjoy the archetype?

His concern was exiling the second Dread Return in response with a DRS, then exiling the target of the first with the other thus countering the spell and leaving him with zero Dread Returns. This requires BG, which the opponent did have up via Sea and Trop.

Typically you bring back Golgari Grave Troll with Dread Return when Flayer of the Hatebound is in play. It's usually academic at that point, but occasionally doming the opponent for the number of creatures in your deck is relevant.
