Back in February I asked Antenna Man about getting better reception our farm house in Nacogdoches, Texas where we got 3 out of 8 available channels only. Antenna man looked at my all information and told me to shortened the cable runs (which were too long) and Install the Channel Master CM7778. And I did it all. And wow... I was trying to get in 8 channels.. to my surprise we get 14 channels !! All channels come in great and in HD or really clear and strong! Thank you Antenna Man!!

Had an Antennas Direct ClearStream 2V TV Antenna in my attic with 35 to 40 stations from Baltimore and Washington D.C. Best response was 35 to 40 channels with some 3 and 2 bars with good reception but at night or in windy weather it was not always good. Installed this Channel Master CM7778 Antenna Preamp and now we get 70 channels and all major three networks with 5 and 3 bars. We are in the Annapolis area and had our antenna aimed at Baltimore but had better luck aiming it at Washington D.C. because the stronger Baltimore channels still came in OK with the amplifier even though Baltimore was 90 degrees from the antenna fucus at Washington D.C. Works great! Thanks for all your good advice. Keep up the good work.

I have been using this pre-amp for about 9 months now. I also attached a high-pass filter to filter out my amateur operations and a new model LTE filter that filters out 5G signals. It make a big difference in receiving WLVT (RF9) and WFPA (RF35) to get Quest TV which is a low power station here. This amp is also doesn't get overloaded by the strong stations I get from Philly. I have a small directional outdoor antenna running to a splitter which routes signal to two televisions. I am receiving from approximately 32 miles from a cluster of transmitting towers. My cable run is about 36 feet. The one VHF channel I receive was over 27 db SNR without the amp. The UHF channels were anywhere from 13 db SNR to 23 db SNR without the amp. The ones below 14.5 db SNR would either randomly lock or only lock at night when the sun was set. I installed the Channel Master CM-7778V3 Titan 2 medium gain amplifier at the mast. With the amp running, the weakest UHF channel now stays locked with 19 to 21 db SNR. All other UHF channels are locking with 21 to 28 db SNR. The one VHF channel is over 31 db SNR. Overall the average increase is about 6 db and these figures are post the splitter. I am not running a distribution amplifier. I am amazed at the difference this amp has made. Every single channel is now reliably received, this is reviewed after dark on a clear night. I have not tested in high sun during the day or during a rain storm yet. I would buy again. I wish I had bought years ago. I highly recommend. I give give five out of five stars.

Tyler, I recently found you here on YT. Thank you for your channel! We just cut our cable and are saving $98/month. I ended up doing an attic install with a Clearstream 4 Max antenna and will be adding a CM-7779HD (yes, I used your link on Amazon!) pre-amp this weekend. All of our local TV channels are broadcasting on UHF. I have a cheapo Clearstream inline signal booster ($20 from Walmart) which isn't getting the job done, plus I suspect 4G/LTE/5G interference from lack of crispness on the higher RF channels. Without the cheapo signal booster, but with dead-on alignment using the tools you recommend in your other videos, my channel count goes way down on the 45 mi towers. Plus, I have a long run to my TV (50+ feet of RG6). So, the CM-7779HD should meet all of my needs. Thanks again for your good content!

This is Chuck Smith the original Antenna Man. I have put a few hundred channel master preamps over the years and am still using a channel master 0264B preamp that I put on my antenna system in 1978. I did have one bad one one time in 1979 on my tower at 80 feet at my business. When the tempura outside would go above 72 degrees it would quit working, when it dropped below 72 degrees like at night it was good. Since it was new I took it back to my distributor and replaced it. Other than that I never had any problems with Channel Master.

@@sergioleone4215 You mentioned in a previous comment that your parents' home is about 34km away from the Chicago transmission towers. Tyler has noted that the preamp was delivering TOO STRONG a signal to their TV. If they were 100km away, it may very well have worked fine.
@ThatEEguy28184 жыл бұрын
You forgot to mention noise figure. Even if the coax is short, a low noise preamp can help "fix" a high noise tuner. Some TV's are more sensitive than others and have higher noise. The first amplifier stage usually sets the signal to noise ratio for the system so if the preamp is low noise, you may receive signals you wouldn't get even with a short coax.
@Bruce_Wayne353 жыл бұрын
"The first amplifier stage usually sets the signal to noise ratio for the system..." Exactly. A lot of people don't realize this. Apparently, when you add a preamp in-line, the tv's rf agc circuit will decrease the gain of that first rf amplifier stage in the tuner. When that happens, the noise it contributes will decrease as well. The typical noise figure for that first rf amplifer stage inside your tv's tuner is around 8 db NF (for a UHF channel), which is pretty high. So a preamp with a 3 db noise figure will improve the overall system's noise figure by 5 db, which is huge and can make a big difference on a weak signal, even if the preamp is sitting on top of the tv.
@ThatEEguy28183 жыл бұрын
@@Bruce_Wayne35 It's amazing the difference in tuners out there. I live north of Detroit and in the 80's, our Zenith would pick up more channels than our RCA. Channels from Toledo that the RCA could barely get came in halfway decent on the Zenith. The Zenith was portable and I did move it to the RCA's location just to verify it wasn't an antenna cable issue. It wasn't.

My parents lost their OTA TV signal about a year ago and went from about 65 channels down to around 11 in the Chicago market. They are 21 miles from the transmitters. They bought a new Winegard rooftop antenna and a ChannelMaster Model #CM-7777HD preamp. We installed the new antenna and preamp and did a channel scan and it stayed at 11 channels, which were all weak and pixelated. I decided to swap out the RG59 cable in their attic with a new quad shield RG6, and replaced their 4 way splitter with a new one at the same time. It was a brutal job climbing in their attic when the outdoor temps were in the 70s. Must have been 110 degrees up there and I had to crawl around since there was no headroom. The new cable and splitter made no difference after a rescan. I was about to give up but thought I'd try one more thing. Went back up on the roof and disconnected the new RG6 cable from the preamp output and connected it directly to the antenna balun using a female to female connector. Ran another channel scan and boom, we now have 73 strong channels again. The Channel Master preamp must have been defective or something. It was a waste of about $90 and caused much gnashing of teeth. I'm pretty sure that the original loss of signal issue had something to do with a nearby lightning strike or something similar, because once we replaced the coaxial cable we were able to get a signal again. Glad that problem is solved.
@villumschroeder12554 жыл бұрын
Interesting. Bummer you had to waste all that time and effort. Your experience proves the antenna reception chain is no stronger than its weakest link.
@RarestAce4 жыл бұрын
Odds are the preamp was not needed and you were overloading the receivers with to strong of a signal. The preamp wasn't defective your setup just doesn't require one. Or you had the power inserter connected wrong.
@landochicago2 жыл бұрын
Tyler, you are the best! I have learned so much from watching your videos. I had this preamp lying around because I tried to use it with a rooftop antenna in a previous house where it turns out I didn't need it. I have since moved farther out and now have a cheapo GE 33692 mounted outside (I know, I saw your review after I bought it). Amazingly, that picks up the 2 weakest signals in this area (WBBM Channel 2 at VHF 12, and WMAQ Channel 5 at UHF 29), but fails with the strongest signals. So I figured I would try this amp out with the GE. In theory the other strong signals, all UHF, should be coming from the same coordinates as the 2 I get well, namely top of the Willis (formerly Sears)Tower. Also, I wondered about your opinion of tvfool vs. AntennaPoint vs. ChannelMaster. Only the CM website showed how actually weak all channels are in my location based on my address; I wonder if it's taking the lake I live near and the many mature trees nearby into account. Also, all of these sites show slightly different azimuths for the transmitters, but the CM site seems most accurate.

It might be good to note that cable loss equals noise. That's why placing the amplifier at the TV will not work. When placing the amp at the antenna, the cable becomes 2nd stage contribution and is negated by the amplifier gain. Sorry about the technical stuff but my brain just goes that way.

Don't blame the preamp. You are just barely getting the signals so adding a preamp increased the noise floor to the point they no longer come in. The same would happen with any other preamp.

@@marshallborder9089 Some people are in the same boat where a preamp just wipes out most of their channels. Let me try to explain it. There's a noise floor and a TV signal has to be above it in order to be decoded. Let's say you're just barely getting the signals at 1dB above the noise floor. When you add the preamp there's 1.5dB of noise added which makes the channels now .5dB below the noise floor. One thing I'd suggest is to make sure you have a good, large antenna (not a small one if you already have one) and use a high quality RG6 quad shield cable.

Just had a CM-7777Hd fail after a year and a half, mounted on a 45' tower, being 65 years old not looking forward to climbing the tower to replace it. I need a bullet proof amp that will stand the test of time, any recommendations? Can you recommend a signal strength meter that I can test at the antenna to see what I'm getting with just the antenna? Thanks love all your help
@AntennaMan3 жыл бұрын
The Channel Master amplifiers are good. If yours failed it could be due to using a coax cable with copper clad steel or not grounding it properly. Make sure the coax cable is solid copper RG6 and it's properly grounded.

I'm surprised you can pick up KYW3 from Philly from your location in Lehigh Valley, despite your antenna's inability to pick up other Philly signals because of the mountains surrounding your area. I wonder if you can try to pick up like NBC10 using the preamp.

Is there a way to amplify just one RF frequency? RF 15-1, 2, 3 is a lower-powered station, while the other 56 channels all come in fine. I read on the Channel Master site that sometimes an amplifier can make things worse if you're amplifying stations that don't need it.
@Bruce_Wayne353 жыл бұрын
I think there are single-channel bandpass filters available which can do that. You could put it on the input of a very high gain, low-noise preamp and this setup, along with a single-channel yagi, could be used to receive a weak signal. The filter should keep strong local signals from overloading the high-gain preamp. www.sateng.com/downloads/3278.pdf

I have zero outlets outside the house on the side where the antenna is....the cost of installling an outlet just for an amplifier makes 'cutting the cord' even more expensive

This preamplifier does NOT get power through an outlet near the antenna. It gets power through the coax cable that runs inside the home with an included power inserter.

It doesn't have to - it still amplifies the same RF frequencies the are broadcasting and works fine as you see in this video.

Channel Master website shows that the frequency range still covers up to channel 51. You stated before that the FCC repack cuts off the UHF band up at channel 36. The FCC repack completed in July of this year. I know that the product will still work, but bands that once resided between channels 37 -51 are now free for wireless devices.

I don't understand. Your aren't reviewing them. Your selling it. I have yet to see you test any of your anteenas for swr, gain, or any real kpi. The same for this LNA. What is the dynamic range, or why not measure the gain, and show how nasty these things amplify, and why a cellular engineer knocks on your door, telling you to shut it off.
@AntennaMan4 жыл бұрын
I don't sell any products. This review is to help people and an informed purchase. I don't need crazy technical testing of this preamp. You can clearly see it increased the signal and brought back three channels. That's all 99.9% of people care about.

@@AntennaMan As an rf engineer who removes dozens of these a month from people's houses, and have prosecuted a few that wouldn't shut them off. It really does matter how things amplify. Just let someone less ignorant do this.
