Looking good Jon. Its amazing how important technology has become, those maps are worth $$$. Use those maps for pulling samples, compare the highs with the lows, you'll get it figured out what the lower yielding area's need!

yep. how far do you want to take it. before soil health i was going all in on variable rate and zone farming. now i dont really care about that stuff. soil health is fixing all them issues.

I forgot all about this plot! Happy to see the results, late 80 early 90 day is what we plant. Are the prices for their seed competitive?

@@jonstevensmaplegrovefarms3754 ha that would be fun to see a no till plot! Most every plot a person looks at is conventional tillage!

Have you planted Channel 197-90VT2? In Central Wisconsin, I've had great luck with 198-98Stx...it's marketed as a Silage corn, because of it's height and thin red rind on the cob, but half of what I sell gets combined. My growers often tell me about how the elevators comment on how clean that grain is. It's very reasonably priced as well.

If I had a good local dealer I would try it. We are a 2300 max gdu area, some years lucky to get 2000.

I know that the low numbers around the edges are killing me on field average. Just being patient and let the agronomist figure it out. Soil samples every year. This year was dry enough this fall to get lime spread. That could be the big ticket. Will see.

How’s the moisture been running for you Jon and what does flyash do for the soil? I haven’t ever heard of using that before.
@jonstevensmaplegrovefarms37543 жыл бұрын
Moisture is phenomenal anytime you're under 22% it's a great fall but we've got a lot of 16 + 18%! They blend fly ash with lime to get rid of it. It has some heavy metals but it has some micronutrients, potash it's used as a pH corrector. But it's extremely cheap compared to just buying lime

Was this corn no tilled?
@jonstevensmaplegrovefarms37543 жыл бұрын
yes, no tilled into 20 year old sod field with very poor fertility on paper. land lord told me when he was young they got 80 bushel for the first time and his dad said remember this fall because might be a long time before you see 80 bushels. in 5 years i would like to see 200 on that field.
