Man, seeing Taran being this happy is contagious. We all need some contagious joy in our lives. Also about the autofocus. When I do photography I use autofocus to get me into the rough ballpark of where I need to be, but past that manual is best. Id suggested getting used to manual focus because it's sooooo much easier once you practice a little.

Yes, I agree. But. I am not behind the camera in this instance. I filmed once already having set the focus manually, and it was too blurry to use. Had to film again.

On any Sony body from a7iii on, face priority autofocus is totally reliable. There's no reason to go back to the awkward old manual setup. Especially if you're ever gonna hold anything up to camera or ever fidget.

Manual focus is wonderful because on a good camera it's so predictable. Autofocus the past few years is a fascinating subject. Apple integrating LiDAR with iPhone cameras is a really interesting taste of the "future" where we might manually set a position to correct focus instead of distance to focus at. Also... imagine a DSLR that can tell you exactly how far away points are so you can setup faster and more accurately without needing a big screen or relying on autofocus only.

@@opx4real AF has gotten great, though sometimes any shift in focus is more noticeable than letting things blur slightly- especially in scenes where background is important. There's great reasons for both.

Photography is very different from video(especially vlog style content), you don't want to go manual unless you are going to set your focal length to something that won't Bokeh too much or if you have a lot of professional experience shooting. Experience or not though, vlog-style content should usually be shot on auto cause it's quick and dirty

Good to have you back Taran. The moment I heard you're doing part 2 for the 4 -hour long editing tutorial I started to smile and now I can't stop. Can't wait to see that! Also, about the focus - The a7sIII should have excellent autofocus, if you want you can change it to always focus on a specific point and never move, whatever's there will be in focus, that could help a lot if you don't wanna use manual focus because I get that would be hard when you need to be in front of the camera.
