First of all, I'm really happy to hear that life is going well, Rush. That's the most important thing, especially as its not always been the case. So that's great man, and long may it continue. Re SF6. I distinctly remember you being unsure about it from day 1, and despite not liking it, you were persisting with Ken tech videos. I came back to the genre with SF6 and your well-thought out videos and tech helped me succeed in the game. After a period of time shaking the rust off, I got Ken to Master rank last week, and your videos were a large part of that. @@returningwhisper I understand and I know a lot of people who felt this way. The big problem for me with V was it had an awful launch, the netcode was abysmal (you could improve it but it sometimes took a lot of effort to get it working). Lastly the game was not the same on console compared to PC. So whilst people like me had an amazing experience, others hated it for these reasons. The gameplay itself was slow and required things like good hit confirms, this also separated the good players from average players.

I stopped playing entirely since making this cycle but have been playing a little bit recently just out of curiosity. @exiaR2x78Ай бұрын
@@RushG Thats fair enough its kind of the same reason as to why I stopped playing SF6 as well. The guess situation's are way too often and getting them or being put in them feels very unearned. The raw DR still eating inputs was frustrating and idk why capcom hasn't fixed it yet. Yeah im on the cope ill like the new Fatal Fury game and the online will actually work this time. It may be a perspective thing that has me I'm this situation. I know a lot of people going from Tekken 7 to 8 who don't like it. Tekken 8 does have some nonsense in it but I don't feel as restricted when playing it like I don't SF6. For the entirely 99 seconds I need to carefully think about anything I do for.risk of being hit by DI or raw DR, the risk exists even from damn near full screen. Your forever in RPS. With Tekken outside of people doing YOLO heat burst the game functions well from a gameplay and pacing perspective. I like the movement, I like roster, I like the gameplay in comparison. But then also I have no expectations with Tekken as this will be my first ever serious one.

When 6 came out I was over the moon but seriously behind having had a 15 year gap from playing 4 and so really needed a lift up to get my Ken in good shape. Hand on heart, your Ken tech and combo tips were head and shoulders above any other content creator and helped me no end in establishing a decent Ken after years out the game so incredibly thankful to you for that. I'm also really chuffed whenever you release a new video so gonna miss your sf6 content moving forward. Totally understand where you're coming from though brother. As you get older and have kids etc, you realise how precious time is and how it's important to focus on what energises you so if you're not enjoying sf6 then I can understand why you want to move on. I understand your criticisms of the game too. The mental stack and general chaos is hard to control and something I'm struggling with too now I'm circa top 30% of the player base. I keep telling myself, if the pros can control it then it must be possible but with my commitments I doubt I'll ever get enough practice to get there. Alas, I'm happy to keep going for now and have enjoyed playing some akuma too recently but the Ken community will never quite be the same without you. Damn I've been trying to find good Ken's making good technical content mainly during the SF5 years, and you were definitely one of my favorites and probably watched the most very sad to see you possibly leave but all said thanks for the great content over the years! I know I'll never change your mind but going from SF4 to SF5 was probably the most saddest and disappointing gaming experience of my life. So I'm honestly really surprised you feel this way. SF5s launch was excruciatingly bad and somehow redeemed somewhat at the end, but still the game was so restrained and feature lacking, so few options. I used to enjoy SF4 where every player had a different unique style. Also more importantly i always felt Ken was fairly weak or mid at best, everything felt unsafe and risky possibly because of my playstyle. But here comes SF6!! (A new challenger!!!) :) Honestly for me SF6 was a complete 180 and the SF game I always wanted, on top of that my man Ken was TOP TIER! For once! (I missed 3rd strike sadly) The game felt fast, lots of creative options to consider and ways to use the drive meter. There are a few minor flaws, I feel the low forward drive rush gets overused and drive rush eating inputs have drove me mad, this seems to be getting better tho. I'm complete trash at counter DI even though I'm a master rank sadly and i use DI a LOT offensively. I still am finding new unused techniques that are almost completely unique to myself and yes they are actually practical too. Since this is a pretty big event you leaving SF6, is like to leave you with a new technique I found and possibly some last Ken SF6 content, I would be honored if so. Honestly I'm the only one that I've seen use this and it literally has a 95% success rate in the past couple of weeks. It's a Drive impact reset, a few other characters I've seen have this but I've never seen a Ken do it and it's super simple but the timing is foolproof. On a successful DI wall splat, use low fierce, hard jinrai to light jinrai whiff and immediately DI again, so you get two fierce hits to a DI reset, the DI is timed perfectly and can't even be thrown, it comes out so quick and looks like a traditional optimal DI combo that has only been countered maybe twice in all my experience which can be accounted for luck and i know i literally did the reset multiple times in a row until it got caught one time. I love finding these unique techniques and I've found several in sf6 ken so far, ever since sf4 ken had his epic (and well known) kara throw i loved so much, i always respected going against another fellow Ken who mastered the kara throw. Anyways I'll leave you with that and if anyone else has actually used this di reset let me know lol I'd love to hear it. I have a few other unique Ken techniques as well ;)

Hey man, I appreciate the post From what I understand, SFV at its core was very different to all other SF games. Similarly to 3S. SFV was all about hit confirms, whiff punishing being ready to deal with risky options. I do agree at launch the game was bare bones, but I was new to the scene then I had no expectations. As the game grew we had an amazing cast, variety in the difference V system mechanics per character. To me this made the game very interesting. And going back to what I said earlier, I loved the skill required to be in control of neutral, the patience it requires and reward for hit confirming. It may have just been Ken in SFV but his ability combo routes using VT1 used to always give me a high level of satisfaction. Imo the routes weren't even that difficult to lab up but the feeling on landing something specific and being able to express myself through the combo routes was really enjoyable. In 6, the game mechanics overshadow everything. Less skilled players are amazing at reacting to DI, will tap parry in neutral for no reason and raw drive rush in when things aren't working out for them. The reward for playing patient and steady, for hit confirms and whiff punishing is not high. You're not rewarded enough for leaning into these higher skill techniques. I've lost to so many Ken's who just do drive rush, drive rush, drive rush over and over for no reason other than to get and maul. To me it feels ridiculous. But, this is my perception and thats the key issue here. It's not for me and I recognise it. It's everything SFV isn't so it makes sense to feel how I do The technique you shared sounds interesting, I'd love to cover it but doing anymore SF6 stuff would just confuse people even more. It's a chapter of my life that is well and truly over now as this game has caused me so much distress. I can't tell you how hard I've dug to enjoy this game only to feel absolutely defeated. All the best on your 6 journey and I'm happy to know people out there really dig this game

@@RushG Thanks for the in depth reply, its really interesting hearing your side of things and yeah I totally get it. I think even though I really enjoyed your Ken content and labbed many of your techniques through the years I think we enjoy Ken on different sides of the spectrum which kinda equate to our love/hate for SF5/SF6. I definitely enjoyed SF5 overall as I still spent an absurd amount of time playing it, but its crappy launch and total rejection of the huge xbox community I used to play SF4 on really rubbed me the wrong way, along with several other major issues like the DRM they added etc. etc. Capcom really hit a low point there but I'm so grateful they eventually came out of it. I can see like you said you like the calculated patient predictable style gameplay where most of the game can be planned for vs a more volatile game where there are lots of options and hard to predict whats going to happen next and sadly its hard to please both sides but since I'm personally a die hard street fighter fan, I'll still play regardless (aka SF5 :P) and I really appreciate that you sincerely tried with SF6. But yeah I like having to think on the fly and really like having each game feel different with lots of options to try is definitely my style. I'm not quite sure if I liked Ken because of his yolo reputation or I started playing yolo style because of it lol but yes I do default to playing more risky yolo style and than I switch to slower more calculated play if I need to, I just find it more fun. Like I equate the slower style game play if you go all the way, to a turtling style guile player that just sits there and waits to react and flash kick or boom, so not my idea of fun, but I know your not that far on that side but just an extreme example. I think SF6 mechanics are indeed really important which I feel was sort of a focus for this game and gives all characters a huge fairly even set of tools out the gate especially defensive ones, there are issues where some mechanics are definitely overused vs others and I do think they are in the process of tweaking it and making it better. I feel most of your complaints can be countered with practice like being able to stuff drive rushes, I've definitely ran into a few players that can jab or light attack me right out of drive rushes repeatedly which is something I can't do just yet. I also need to work on getting better at DI and parry, to me these make the game way more fun to be able to react defensively rather than just blocking and guessing/waiting for your turn back (or the lone options of V reversal/shift in SFV), its almost like they added another half of the game, the defensive side which wasn't there before and personally something I really wanted. I personally feel you can also go into a fun slower neutral/footsie game if both players play that way which does happen somewhat often, mostly when I really respect a players defensive game, if not than I rush down the crap out of them and yes use a lot of unique gimmicks lol. To me I would think the other player would enjoy someone who plays totally unique from everyone else (hopefully ;). Also a side note I really really love the SF6 change from dizzy to burnout, such a huge dynamic change and risk/reward element, having to manage your drive gauge (burning out your meter for the kill) and being able to play effectively even while in burnout is a skill in itself. Buut in the end like you said its all about what you find enjoyable and whats your style of play, while I really wish you enjoyed SF6 so I and many others can enjoy SF6 together for the next several years like we did with SF5's rollercoaster, its definitely not SF5 and yeah I'm going to miss your content but all the best in whatever you find enjoyable next!

I've played fighting games pretty much my whole life and agree with your sentiment on SF6. I also love playing chess, which is one of the only games that exists (to my knowledge) that is close to 100% and 0% luck. Fighting game developers would do well to consider mechanics that move games away from skill and towards luck. I think they havent got that balance right with SF6 (yet i hope) where offensive is too heavily rewarded, neutral is dull (either low forward drive rush or a big poke)... it just doesn't feel as satisfying as it did in the later seasons of SF5 when i think they had this balance right. Yes SF6 is polished... but that doesn't mean its good.
@RushG6 ай бұрын
@@Jwest83 very well put. I feel that Capcoms approach with 6 was to make as polished and accessible as possible which they've succeeded in. Everything from the universal mechanics to modern controls, the lack of hit confirms and easy alternatives to what would be considered fundamental SF skills. It leaves a bitter taste in your mouth when losing to players that can't anti air, can't whiff punish, cant hit confirm but they can react to DI all day long, they can raw DR and they can tap parry. Doesn't matter on the character MU this is the SF6 global MU, the one that frustrates me the most

It's not you or your gamepad !!! SF6 is a colossal pain in the hole in terms of controls. Inputs are not registered correctly and god only knows how this game decides what output it generates, but it certainly doesn't match what you need when you need it ! SFv is a far superior game, it looks better, plays better, and at least Ken had fluid movement. Now he feels restricted and slow. Time to get everyone playing V again 💯
@RushG6 ай бұрын
The controller issue was the icing on the cake. Towards the end I was losing it entirely playing the game. I had to stop for my own sanity. As much as I wish there was a SFV community, the FGC just isn't interested enough to keep it alive. It will forever be memed on
@VeganBytes6 ай бұрын
@RushG I had exactly the same issue. I use sanwa jlf joystick and I spent ages modifying it with otto parts and to make it more robust in order to get better response and control. Yet i still have major issues, so its the game, not the joystick. Playing SFv I have no issues with inputs and pulling off combos, it's buttery smooth 👍

I feel why this is is because SF6 is a complete product and has had so much care with it's creation. Capcom have done everything to make the launch and the game very high quality. That said the gameplay, the risk / reward, how fun it is, is IMO questionable. But for the majority this will be overlooked. SF6 has been made to appeal to a much wider audience, it's a very deep game but it's also accessible to more casual players. They can mash DI and raw DR all day long and beat moderately good players. Casuals and pros will do well but anyone in the middle will struggle to control this level of chaos. May be a hot take to some but that's my perspective. I totally get why Capcom went this way, but looking back on SFV, the vast roster, the faster game but slower pacing in neutral, very heavy footsie based game. People will forgot this but continue to meme it even in 2024+

Man I completely understand. Haven't played in 6 months. Tried akuma out for 15 minutes and ran outta steam with sf6. Miss the hell outta SFV. Something as simple as every characters drive rush being the same color is enough for me to quit. Game design is lazy and I miss the pressure strings from SFV. The lack of character content sucks too. Avatar focused gear for crossovers makes me sick.
@jasn69726 ай бұрын
Can you elaborate on lazy game design? I’m not trying to criticize your opinion im just trying to see why people don’t like this game. I’m a fan of both SF5 and SF6 and I think the game could evolve to be even better in 2 years or so just like SF5
@kwasit10556 ай бұрын
What I’m saying man, I think 6 is a great game
@heroe14866 ай бұрын
If a universal mechanic having the same recognizable color for all characters is enough for you to quit you probably didn't like fighting games to begin with and are searching an excuse, especially in a game where characters of the current roaster are all differents.
@RushG6 ай бұрын
From my perspective, the roster is still unappealing to me. The SFV launch characters were great in comparison, if I were to play now I'd probably go with Ryu. The universal game mechanics make the game feel very repetitive too. Having to play around people in ranked mashing DI and defaulting to raw Drive Rush over and over just gets boring. There are times I'm not doing anything but checking DR, not pressing much in neutral due to YOLO DI, not throwing fireballs because everyone is neutral jumping (or mashing DI). Then your inputs would get eaten by raw DR so you're unable to check it. I just got bored of this cycle of events every game. It will get better but this ultimately is the game from my perspective.
