I'm fantasizing about a permanent setup that can turn the blank, gash the teeth and then fully hob them, but I think it would take longer than it's worth for 6 gears :P

Tabletop Machine Shop : Check out "robertt4522" channel, he had a similar problem and maded the series "DIY Gear Hob Part 1-3" also "Hobbing." Although making the Hob is a little painful, the bottom line is you have a tool that is repeatable for future use. Oh yeah, from a combat vet, you're welcome!
