The point is Musk is a billionaire who himself is in the receipt of large government contracts. Putting him in charge of reviewing government expenditure is a huge conflict of interests. Personally, I'd like to see the focus of our own media switch from the ins and outs of American politics from the perspective of the American electorate to more of what the UK is going to do if and when it finds itself at odds with the incoming administration's policies. The three key areas are going to be the economy, foreign policy and national security. This would be a valid discussion regardless of who the US electorate chose to be their president. It is made more of a pressing discussion simply because of President-elect Trump's 'America First' policy and the consequences of that on us. 'Us' as in we, the United Kingdom and not 'us' as in the 'United States'. Trump is a disruptor and as pointed out in this 'Fourcast', maintaining the status quo and doing things as they have always been traditionally done is not his style or intention. Be that good or bad is a pointless discussion, but a discussion on the consequences of him fulfilling certain policies and their repercussions on the UK is a very valid discussion. Inevitably, only time will tell what he will be able to actually do and what their real life repercussions actually will be.
