@@spots- What did I say that lacks empathy? Do you know what forgiveness entails exactly? I'd rather follow the process of forgive than revenge. I don't think most people even know what true forgiveness is. It's not just forgive and forget. It's a specific process. This is forgiveness: “If your brother sins, go and show him his fault in private; if he listens and pays attention to you, you have won back your brother. But if he does not listen, take along with you one or two others, so that every word may be confirmed by the testimony of two or three witnesses. If he pays no attention to them [refusing to listen and obey], tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile (unbeliever) and a tax collector." To me, God's standard is there for a reason and informs most good law in government. But it is foremost a day to day, free will, act of self-discipline and can't be enforced by anyone. It is an individual's choice. If you think revenge is better, you will only end up being just as racist and making the cycle of violence continue. Forgiveness is the only way towards peace. I tell you, if it wasn't for the little good that came through following forgiveness, SA would have had a far more violent and traumatic transition. There's no better transition story in Africa to me than Botswana's story.

@KoivuTheHab Red Cross records show the opposite. Malnutrition was rife in Rhodesia for the poor blacks who were marginalised, treated less than humans in their own land, and used as cheap labour for taxes, not to mention segregation which kept them confined in overpopulated areas and dry homelands. Mugabe was a hero for standing up to the oppressor and giving his people the land they had fought for.The standard of living may have gone down in recent years due to a combination of factors, but they are free, and the land is theirs, and land, is everything.
@kudakwashe7155 жыл бұрын
KoivuTheHab Blacks in Rhodesia, apart from segregation (a historic fact) were burdened with the yoke of taxation which was imposed on blacks even as far back as 1896. The Land Act ( there were a few of these by the way) forced black families out of their land into ‘reserves’. These were hot, dry and arid areas where they were confined to. The taxes for cheap labour was a system used by the Rhodesia regime and its predecessors to force blacks to leave arid reserves and provide cheap labour. Hut Tax was the worst, because at first it was payable in cash and men were liable for arrest if they couldn’t pay tax for their hut. The tax system was set up to systematically force blacks to find work on white farms and mines so that they could pay tax. The colonial system was brutal and reduced blacks to nothing more than poorly paid manual labourers with no rights and freedom. So ruthless and greedy was the system that more taxes were introduced over the years, such as cattle tax, dog tax etc, in addition to the Hut Tax. Yes, you are right, Red Cross was for the underclass, and these were downtrodden black majority. They witnessed malnutrition which was prevalent. Rhodesia was no heaven on earth for the real owners of the land, the black majority, but it was heaven for the minority oppressors who stood to benefit from the system. Things may be in doldrums at the moment but 37 years to build a nation does not compare to 120 years which the colonialists had to build Rhodesia, on the back of oppression and cheap labour.

The truth is, Rhodes and Lobangula (Son of Mzilikazi) were friends and it was Rhodes that PERSUADED Lobangula a Ndebele to stop hunting the shona in mashonaland. Rhodes was a builder who build Rhodesia then Mugabe came along and broke it down again. There was never hatred in Rhodesia between white and black but there was always tension between the shona and Ndebele and as a policeman in the early days many times attended scenes of conflict between the two tribes. Nkomo himself admits that he made the mistake of taking sides with Mugabe. Nguruhundi was going to come to revenge the earlier days (before the whites came) of the Ndebebele slaughter of the Shona tribe. I was in attendance at the Mtumbane when the forces Zipra and Zanla were housed in Bulawayo after the war and even then the hatred of each other continued and they fought each other violently. Why do some people hide the true facts from our children. All the white man did was come to Rhodesia to try and find peace and build a beautiful first world country for All Rhodesian's to prosper from. People had jobs, education and a wonderful lifestyle and NOW there nothing left. 99.9 % of whites grew up with blacks and were keen to see change where all were equal in standard and yes we should have done this earlier than we did, but still I have wonderful black friends in high places in Zimbabwe who all agree it was better for them and their families under Rhodesian rule that it was under Mugabe's Zimbabwe rule which may I add was in power three times longer than Smiths Regime. God Bless Zimbabwe that they may now see logic, stop blaming colonialists, introduce a young educated youth to take over and use the vast skills past and present to rebuild the breadbasket it once was. Nkosi Sikele Afrika

I hear you very well and I wish every Zimbabwean could take heed of what you are saying. Lets invite everyone back into the country, and lets forgive each other first, black, white, red green, Ndebele, Shona, Shangaan. And then lets talk to sincerely reconcile between ourselves. Thereafter lets allocate land, resources and opportunities equitably to all without bias or partisanship. Ultimately every Zimbabwean must respect every Zimbabwean, the country's flag , soveireignity, liberation history & heroes. Racism should not be entertained at all cost . Only then will God heal and prosper our dear land.

Yeah I know all about this. Sad but the bottom line is keep out of politics. The white farmers who were evicted were all political. Given the historical context in which black Zimbabweans were oppressed, openly supporting the opposition party against the one that liberated them was actually stupid. The ones who kept out of politics are still there. Keep out of politics is a good rule to follow, anywhere. Even in a so called liberal democracy like Australia being too outspoken against those in charge is neither healthy or prudent. Not as dramatic as Zimbabwe but the consequences of being a political dissident in certain Australian states will still ruin your reputation and life. It’s a hard lesson I had to learn. I now don’t even have an opinion and nor would I if I relocated to Zimbabwe. Just be a good person and help others. I don’t even vote.
