The Lib Dems scored their best result for a century. While the Tories had their worst result in their history, with Rishi Sunak admitting "I am sorry".
With just a few seats left to declare, Britain's political landscape has undergone a complete transformation in the past 24 hours.

I seriously doubt that your statement that Jeremy Corbyn was elected on a Pro-Palestinian ticket has any validity to it. It's more that his past work in his constituency earned him the trust of his voters. If you meant the *other* independents were elected on a Pro-Palestinian ticket, you're probably right but your wording was poor as it seemed to include Corbyn + the others.

Dear Channel 4, your report was incorrect when it said that 'Jeremy Corbyn was elected on a pro Palistinian platform', he is pro-world peace, not pro Palistinian (which slyly insinuates anti-isreali/antisemit); he got elected because he personally serves his constituents, effectively, for over 40 years, and his campaign simply tapped into that multicultural local respect.

The Tories have massively increased the tax burden on the the rich while the lowest income are paying less tax than ever. At this point many of us are leaving the UK because it just doesn't pay to work in the UK any more given how much the government will take and how high costs are here compared to other countries. My unpopular opinion is that part of the reason why growth has been so bad under the Tories is that taxes and regulation have crushed productivity. Labour would be smart to not exacerbate these problems since lacklustre growth is why we haven't been able to significantly increase tax revenues in recent years.

When a party with < 40% gains such a majority, it's less a sign of a flourishing democracy than a failing political system that cannot handle a system where more than 2 parties exist that hold, combined, 80% or more of the vote. If we assume that 3 or 4 parties, each with 20+ % of the vote, will be a regular thing in Britain, you desperately need some kind of reform. How do people propose to deal with this global climate crisis? The answer is nothing as it is already far, far too late to solve the problem. And reducing emissions in Britain means nothing if China and other developing countries do not do the same. The fact is civilization may not Survive by continued dependence on oil, but it may also not survive if it stopped using oil altogether, at least right away, and there are so many products made from oil that humans need for a modern society. Going back to a medieval or Stone Age society is simply not possible, given the number of people on the planet, now well over 8 billion. And other environmental problems, like extinction of species of wildlife, have lasted as long or almost as long as humans themselves. These problems simply cannot be solved quickly and will take decades at least, probably centuries to be fixed, and are probably now too big to be solved.

"reducing emissions in Britain means nothing if China and other developing countries do not do the same" - How often do you think you have to repeat this nonsense to brainwash all into "what we are doing isn't really that bad, so let's keep doing it!"? China does not only produce a lot of the stuff all people around the world consume, thereby contributing to the climate crisis those emissions the consumer countries do not emit because they outsourced the production to China BUT it also installs more renewable power plans every year than the rest of the world combined. Although they produce so much for the whole world and therefore consume a lot of energy, they produced 29.14% of their TOTAL energy from renewables. The UK on the other hand produced 41% of its electricty from renewables but only 6% of its TOTAL energy consumption. What exactly is wrong about that and why should the UK not strive to be at least as good as China since it seems to be obsessed with being "world beating" at everything else?

that's a good question... my guess is that the nation is divided not only north/south but east/west as well. So in general the south / west is wealthier than the north / east. In that sense Ashfield is a bit of an outlier but still a post-industrial, old mining area left behind. Of course Clacton, Basildon, and Yarmouth are in the south but compared to other southern towns and cities they have been largely forlorn, destitute as well as recipients of a number of immigrants which were not met with proportional attempts at integration.. then people like nige exploit the destitute and resentful for his own purposes.

It's the number of seats that matters not vote share. It has always been this way under FPTP, which was introduced by the Conservatives in 1885. It is quite common for parties to govern with less than 40% of the vote. Of course, you probably didn't mind the system when the Tories were winning (which under FPTP, is most of the time). This time however the Tory vote was split by Reform and many Labour and Liberal voters switched allegiance to vote tactically, hence the lower numbers.
