I remember when I was on a troop ship going to Germany we were in sight of a French aircraft carrier and planes were taking off. they fired two HE rounds over the ship and the captain said they did not want us to come to close in case of an accident. what amazed me that they were able to get the two rounds to explode right over our ship. from such a short distance.

Perhaps you should consider it was from the skill of the captain and crew of the Royal Navy HMS Duncan that nothing did happen of literally what no one wants of open hostilities. The sailers did their job of doing what they needed to to send enough of a warning deterrent to the Iranian vessel not to push it any further and the Iranians thankfully - didn't. Surely that is enough you would wish to happen.
