One of the most built up Marvel movies ever made, if not THE most built up. Doug and Rob give their thoughts on the record breaking blockbuster Avengers: Endgame.
Avengers: Endgame is a 2019 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics superhero team the Avengers, produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It is the sequel to 2012's The Avengers, 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron and 2018's Avengers: Infinity War, and the 22nd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely and features an ensemble cast including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Karen Gillan, Danai Gurira, Bradley Cooper, and Josh Brolin.

The movie is just too dumb and feels like an unsatisfying conclusion. Like after the first 10 minutes it just takes the script and logic with it, throws it in the trash, douses the can with gasoline and lighter fluid, sets it on fire, then pees out the fire. In fact the movie tries to give itself an out near the middle of the film once everyone has decided what is to be done, AND THEN throws THAT in the trash at the end of the movie with how everything played out and the big NO that was the final decision that was not supposed to happen but did. Like it was a plot hole black hole. And while Avenger films are supposed to be the equivalent of a child taking his favorite toys and smashing them together in a big fight, Im pretty sure no child on earth would come up with a story as stupid as this. The infinity gems should have just been like the Black Star Dragonballs in GT and have the Avengers Team trying to find them across the galaxy all over again with Thanos and whatever small army he could muster on their tail and have it be that. Or something different. Just NOT THIS. Like to put it into perspective, Batman Forever makes more sense than this movie does.

If you only watch reviews then you really only know the plot. There's more to a movie than its plot Laslty, the movie doesnt even really feel that long. The first act drags on a but but when they get to the Time Heist is speeds up. And watching the last act is definitely worth the wait.

Or crowds on both sides of the street watching there fallen hero being carried to his grave in a coffin by the military as guns and cannon fire goes off with jet planes flying above as someone is playing Amazing Grace on bagpipes (probably one of the best scenes in Batman v. Superman in my opinion) or a boat with a dead person on it gets lit on fire by an arrow with fire on the tip fired by an archer from an distance in the middle of a lake or body of water as people watch and mourn from a distance.

@@mullaoslo The fuck are you talking about? Mythological Thor is NEVER depicted as fat, nor described as such. Odin is also a slender old man - remember that Tolkien used Odin as a model when creating Gandalf. That's the body type he has in mythology. As for the comics, when he's older he's bigger, but never fat. He's more bulky than anything else, not a damn beer belly. Odin isn't fat like that either, neither in comics nor movies.

SPOILERS BELOW: Fridging isn't the right term. Look, I'm a major advocate for better written female characters but I think Nat's death was perfect in regards to being an ending for her storyline. It wasn't a case of fridging. GAMORA'S death was fridging. Natasha's death didn't exist as a means to serve as cannon fodder for a male character to further their story with. Her death served to fulfill her goals. Nat sacrificed herself, the one thing Natasha has worked for her whole life is wiping her sins clean. Right back in Avengers she says "I've got red in my ledger, and I'd like to wipe it out", that's why she joins the team. Yet, among God's and monsters Natasha was never given the chance to do the good she wanted to do. She finally did it. She SAVED THE UNIVERSE. That is a perfect end for a woman who felt she'd caused more bad than good. It was a beautiful end imo.

SPOILERS!!!! I'm still watching the review, so can't say too much for Doug and Rob's opinions, but I will say this; I don't care about fridging as a term. It's a little ridiculous. However, I am deeply conflicted over Black Widow's death. It makes sense, given the rules they set up in Infinity War. However, in terms of themes, it was an insult to the previous movie. Infinity War was about about the Trolley Question, with Thanos advocating the sacrifice of an individual (or a group of individuals) for the sake of everyone else (after all, if killing one person to save the half the universe, then sacrificing half the population for the continued existence of every species is equally as acceptable). Infinity War argued that this is unacceptable, with Cap saying, "We don't trade lives" in response to the Vision (which is echoed during the Soul Stone scene, with "A soul for a soul"). If you have Black Widow sacrifice herself to save everyone, you are saying that sacrifice is acceptable, in contrast to the previous movie, and, by extension, that Thanos was ethically correct.

Avengers: Endgame - 1st Hour Our remaining heroes are dealing with a world in disarray. Thanos' point is proven wrong! The universe is not moving on or thriving with half the people on every planet gone. That's what it's showing! That 5 years on, people are still hurting and some have even given up. 2nd Hour: Marvel indulges in it's past a little here. You know how when you get the anniversary/landmark/ending of something! Some shows and movies will indulge in nostalgia. When you have a cinematic universe like the one Marvel's been doing for the last 10 years. This is something I'm entirely up for and it could be worse. They could have done it with NO reason what so ever. Going back in time and visiting their "glory days" is something that has been earned and I enjoyed every frame. 3rd Hour: Does it need to be said! This is one of the biggest payoffs in cinema and if this movie were a 3 course meal, Endgame has led me to undo my top trouser button, slap my big fat Thor sized tummy and proclaim "I AM FUCKING FULL!!". Iron Man and Steve Rogers finally having the goodbyes they deserve. This felt like the end AND had promises of a beginning too. If Marvel films begin to lose people after this! Still! What a send off!

At one point Cap says " I saw whales in the East River, never though i'd see that, there's less ships" humans may have not evolved past it (because face it were still primitive driven my impulse and emotion and not logic), but Earth itself was rebuilding its natural resources, and whats to say other planets werent thriving. Thanos even destroyed the stones. It was pride, defeat guilt and a bunch of bullshit emotions that led everyone to back to him...they couldnt see his vision..especially after 5 years. Thanos just did we he thought was right in the long term he brought peace for generations to come, Everyone else's greedy shortsightedness was like nah "kill him" and lets fuck up time so we can bring it all back to our current misery cause fuck change....

When it was revealed that Nat and Clint were going, I already knew both of them would want to make the sacrifice and the other would do whatever it took to stop them. If anything, Nat's sacrifice works so well because of her guilt. The blood she still felt in her ledger washing from her and forming the stone that would save everyone she loves and make everything right. Those who argue she was 'fridged' (gosh I really hate that term) should explain what else could have been done and why they're disrespecting a woman's choice to save her family.

What does it mean to be "fridged?"
@jalix9574
@jalix9574 5 жыл бұрын
Nerdy George Washington Okay, so it’s that thing in comics and movies where a female character is killed, disabled, or otherwise taken out of commission in order to service a male character’s development motivation. The term originated in a green lantern story where the villain literally dismembered green lantern’s girlfriend’s body and put it in a fridge for him to find. Examples include in that one Batman where Barbara Gordon is shot, and loses the use of her legs. These guys seem to have mistaken it for just the death of a female character though, as Black Widow’s death didn’t service any of the avengers motivation or character development. It’s a sexist trope because it marginalises and sidelines otherwise valid female characters, in the favour of making a male hero more badass and have more man-pain.
@jacobmonks3722
@jacobmonks3722 5 жыл бұрын
@@jalix9574 I fail to see how that's sexist in any way. People die for the sake of storytelling and character development literally all the time. It's one of the most common literary devices ever used since Shakespeare made Hamlet. If it was a man dying for a female would it still be called sexist? My guess is no.

I decided to watch Avengers (2012) a night prior to watching Endgame the next day. I'd say the sacrifice felt heavier seeing how the first movie established that Nat would do anything to bring Barton back from Loki's control, at the same expressed that she wished to redeem her past before she met Barton. Sacrificing herself in order to let Barton reunite with his family again is the most priceless thing she could do to erase "the red in her ledger".

My thoughts. I loved all of it. Sure the first part dragged for a bit, but it was interesting to see them in this "post-snap" world that they live in. And what I like about it was that it didn't show that people just moved on. The world was still feeling the effects of it and it was impactful. I liked the time travel aspect, seeing different points of view from the other movies, but I also like the fact that they didn't "undo" those events. The ending was just phenomenal. When all the heroes came back, I had tears in my eyes and I was shaking. Tony's "death speech" made me cry and Cap dancing with Peggy also made me cry, along with the end credits. If this was to be the LAST MCU movie ever, then they succeeded big time. It is amazing how well they pulled this off. 12/10 for making me cry!

@@AileynRed I have A-Force, and I liked it. A lot. For anyone reading this comment and starting to go into 'feminist hee-bee-jee-bees', rest assured; A-Force takes place on a battleworld called Arcadia (even has a female Loki!), not on Earth 616. So, relax /s.
@hydranoid2009
@hydranoid2009 5 жыл бұрын
@@AileynRed I don't think the complaint was that it was all woman, just that the way the scene was shot made it feel as if the movie just kind of paused the battle to give us the A-force moment. It was a complaint about pacing/not integrating it more naturally into the flow of the war scene.
@hydranoid2009
@hydranoid2009 5 жыл бұрын
@@AileynRed Well I can see how those are a bit different. Spidey swinging in was when the whole army was just arriving right? So the war wasn't going full force. As for Captain Thunder wasn't that just a him vs Thanos situation? Plus that moment was for narrative importance. I think the pacing is only a problem because it had that group shot and such when in the middle of the all out war brawl. but that could just be me remembering things wrong as I saw the movie a few days ago. If it were me I would have had a swooping shot where it went across to each of the A-force girls doing their respective thing rather than having them all coincidentally gathered in the same spot in the middle of all out war but that's just me.

I think if they actually had action scenes or stuff that caught attention more itd have been entertaining and kept people on it.dont get me wrong it's still a good movie, but comparing it to infinity war, I think the prior movie was better

The "girl power" scene was cringy as hell and took me right out of the moment. I really wish that they had just framed the female heroes the same way as everyone else. Scarlet Witch getting some payback on Thanos? Awesome, loved it. Spider-Man hitching a ride with Pepper and Valkyrie? Ridiculous comic book shit that I love. Seeing Iron Man, War Machine, and Pepper in a triple-armor barrage? Fucking yes. I wanted more scenes like that, not this "pose for the inevitable Buzzfeed puff piece" shit. Imagine that same lineup scene with a mix of men and women, doesn't that sound so much more natural?

Don't know if you realized that the kid from Iron Man 3 was at Tony's funeral, I had no clue who it was at the moment, and didn't recognize him since he'd grown up. I'm also thinking that since they didn't really have a proper send off sort of thing with Hulk, Disney is going to approach Universal (I think that's who actually owns the rights to him?) and just hand them a check blank so that they can bring him back. It just felt really open ended.

I saw Avengers Endgame last night and absolutely loved it. But I will agree that it is one of those things that you really have to sit down and formulate your thoughts on it. The plot twists, the callbacks to previous films, the heartwarming character moments, and everything of the sort really needs to be fully processed. However, I will say though. Marvel could just bring their entire cinematic universe to a close here and I would totally be satisfied.

I'm just very worried about the future films. Obviously, I'll stick around, I love all the characters and I want to see how they continue, but it's like no crossover could ever top that in terms of scale and emotion. This all depends on whether Cap also went back to punch Loki in the face when he went around returning the stones at the end of the movie. One would hope he would not overlook this very important part to keeping this all a closed time loop! But somehow, I doubt it, since the Loki disappearing thing seems like a conspicuous set up for him to return in future media.
