@Questron718 жыл бұрын
SpeedyEric1 Granted. Let me just tell you MY reasoning... We have seen three pretty awesome Die Hard Movies and one that was "meh"... Die Hard Five HAD the potential to be much better than what we got and it would not have taken much effort to avoid the handful of really blatantly DUMB plot points that soured up the movie for me. Home Alone 3 has nowhere near the potential to be a vastly better movie, the first one was halfways unique, the second one made good use of the budget they had to go one step further / go bigger than the first one... but what was left in the plot and potential situation to explore it a third time? They did not even try to connect it to the McAllister family, or the place they live or anything "kevin" at all... HA3 was doomed to suck from the onset and never could have beena better film without being completely different. DIe Hard 5 would have easily had that chance. And that's why being disappointed with what we got hurt more with McClane's last big adventure and not with whatever chickpox boy's name was....

Fun Fact: Apparently the writers were working on HA3 where Kevin was a teenager but was scrapped Macaulay Culkin refused to do this film, simply because he'd grown tired of the role, and felt that there was nothing else he could've done with it. When Macaulay Culkin declined to reprise his role as Kevin for the third outing, John Hughes briefly considered writing the screenplay with Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern reprising their roles as burglars Harry and Marv, respectively, who target Kevin's cousin Fuller (Macaulay's real-life brother Kieran), and Fuller would be the main character, with Gerry Bamman and Terrie Snell reprising their roles and Fuller's parents Frank and Leslie, respectively, who go on vacation and leave Fuller home alone, to defend himself against Marv and Harry. The idea was scrapped, as Pesci and Stern refused to reprise their roles, and wanted to pursue other projects, and Kieran felt he couldn't follow in his brother's footsteps as the lead. Hughes then wrote an entirely different screenplay with no characters from the first two films. At one stage, the script was considered being filmed as a television pilot, but in the end, the studio decided to go ahead and make it as a feature film. The reverse would later happen with The Wonderful World of Disney: Home Alone 4: Taking Back the House (2002), which was originally intended to be a stand-alone television movie, but was restructured during production, to serve as a pilot for a television series that ultimately never went ahead.

One of the problems with this film is that the villains being outsmarted by a child doesn’t work nearly as well here. Because: 1. Harry and Marv were two. There’s four of the here. 2. Harry and Marv were petty thieves and them being dumb is set up early on. These four are international criminals who have alluded many law enforcement agencies around the world, including the FBI, for years. And they’re depicted as very competent and prepared for most of the film. So then suddenly turning into bumbling idiots, doesn’t work.

So let me get this straight. A kid having nothing to do with the first 2 movies aquires military grade technology, so some international criminals working for a north korean terrorist organization break into the home only to be greeted by a wireless security network, a parrot trained to answer phone calls, fart jokes, holes in the interior of the house, lawnmower massacres, mousetraps, and more, all of which was set up and arranged by an 8 year old. If Home Alone 4 is worse, COUNT ME OUT! I AIN'T DOING THAT!

Okay, now I know it might sound stupid, maybe even more stupid than Home Alone 4, but what if the plot to Home Alone three was this: Harry and Marv have finally been released from prison and are trying to go straight. Then they accidentally end up in possession of the computer chip we see stolen at the beginning of the film. After eventually realizing how valuable it is, Harry and Marv go back to their roots and try to find a way to sell it, but are chased by the masterminds and end up way over their heads. After a couple days of running they go to someone they know might be able to help. The person is not Keven, but for some reason this person cannot help them so they decide to go to Keven who at this point is in college. At first Keven wants to go to the police but after being forced at gunpoint he "agrees" to help Harry and Marv who take him to an abandoned building to set up some traps. After the masterminds track them to the building they trigger the traps. Some traps are successful, others are not, and Keven makes a remark or two about Harry and Marv's intelligence when asked why one of the traps failed. Eventually Keven is able to get a phone from the only fully defeated mastermind and call the police who save Keven, Marv, and Harry at the last second. Harry and Marv are forced to give the computer chip to the police, pretending that was their intention all along, and the two of them and Keven return to their normal lives. Now, I'm not saying this idea would necessarily result in a good movie, it would still be a shameless cash grab, but it could be better than Home Alone three's actual plot.

Home Alone 2 was a very enjoyable sequel. Even if it did rehash some jokes.

Every time I watched Home Alone 3, and came to when Alex somehow got a television feed of what the camcorder was recording as it was taped to his remote control truck, I couldn't help but ask one specific question; why didn't Alex hook up the broadcast feed through a VCR and record everything from his base of operations? It seems that would have been smarter than risking having the tape taken; which ended up happening. Probably because the story plot required Alex to not be able to prove that there were burglars breaking into other people's homes. In other words; there is no good reason.
