The funny thing is it's not even THAT BAD. The problem is more the delivery. It would be a typical kids movie line if a comic relief character said it. One that had been firing off one liners all movie. But this one basically just kinda turns good at the end and changes characer. It feels so off for so many reasons. Sure it's not in any way a good line but it's just a normal lame pun that was given some of the worst delivery I've ever seen.

well, when it comes to the girl wanting to be a knight... while that is just straight up impossible, as it is the title of a male lesser noble and a military rank, she can be granted the alternative title of a Dame instead. Dames are the female equivalent to the more well known Knight and were usually the wives of knights. They also had military duties, so when their husbands were away for whatever reason, it would be up to the Dame to take command of her household soldiers and defend her home from outside attacks. They were pretty cool. So while the girl in this film would never be given the title of knight, she could be granted the feminine equivalent instead... just thought I'd share that.

Actually, they did explain, you have to pay attention. Take the leaves. Garrett stated that Aiden helped him to see in the forest and learned what can harm you and what can heal you. When he got injured, Kayley picked those purple leaves. They were the same leaves Garrett picked when he said, "and what can heal you." I'm not advocating that it's a good movie but it's not as bad as you're billing it up to be. They do explain some of the things that you thought didn't make sense, it just went over your head.
@reasyrandom7 жыл бұрын

Camelot ties into about Avalon and Merlin. Magic, magical creatures ect, are all very real in that story. Absolutely agree a lot of things went over his head. The chicken, for example, is seen in the background seeing how awful his chicken wife has been treated, "promising" her to make it better. It was not out of nowhere, and yeah there might not have been any dialogue, but it was right there.

I really liked this movie when I was small because the main character was pretty, her love interest was cool -- I thought he was a unique character & he's really *the only* interesting thing in this movie, and I liked one song -- just one single song. *Everything else in this movie sucked* which kept me from loving it. *The blind guy should've been the main character.* The movie would be far more interesting that way. Seeing how he copes with life and triumphs over battles and challenges using his wits. To me, the few scenes where he fought and traversed while blind is what made the movie memorable.

Yeah, I've never had a problem with the Damsel in Distress trope as I believe that using a loved one of any gender as motivation is just an old harmless trope that makes for easy heroic motivation. However, I do have a problem when the trope takes an otherwise capable female character - or someone who is being built-up to be a capable female character - and nerfs them or ruins their potential just to put them into a "damsel in distress" situation. Kayley spends the entire movie driving home her point about becoming a knight in spite of her gender - and then winds up needing to be rescued by blind guy.
@favorx1838 жыл бұрын
+Biff the BearKiller ikr how is a blind guy literally more capable of defending himself then her?
@thewaterguy178 жыл бұрын
Definitely, I've always rejected this notion of "damsels in distress" always being sexist objects that need saving and therefore anyone that uses the trope is a misogynist asshole, one not every character (female included) needs to be a bow/gun toting warrior, aside from that everyone needs help sometimes, even amazing warriors, however it does become a problem when a badass female character suddenly loses all of her badassery for the sake of a plot point

I personally think Bladebeak had a reason to turned good in the climax, because he was Kayley's pet chicken on the farm, He was not evil or a jerk and I don't think he was helping Ruber at all, he was just there to tell him that Kayley, Garrett and Ayden are going after Excalibur and he serves him his lunch, he was useless for Ruber's plans, so he sends him back to the wagons with Juliana and his wife, which is another reason why he turned good, so he can see his wife again.
@ethanschenck971411 ай бұрын
Also, throughout his scenes you could see a hen that I assumed was either his mother or his girlfriend, and they looked at each other with a twinge of sadness constantly up until he turned on Ruber, where they were seemingly chatting. I haven't seen the film in like 17 years at least, but I did notice and remember them

I'm pretty sure someone mentioned this in the original review, but one of the people who worked on this movie was Lauren Faust, the creator of MLP: Friendship is Magic. She's not very proud of this project, she said it was supposed to be darker and not a musical, but the executives wanted something akin to the popular Disney films, thus giving birth to this piece of shit.

When I was young, I and my sister enjoyed this film. Now that I’m older, I find it boring and confusing. But it turns out the reason why it is so confusing is because of many rewrites to the original script that was actually good. The narrator explains why the things that happen happen; the child was supposed to be the blind man who finds a mysterious girl who lives in the forest; the dragon was not suppose to have a song, they agreed with each other, and the reason why they couldn’t fly nor breathe fire was because they didn’t need to because they ran away from danger; and most simplest, but for some reason not mentioned by the Nostalgia Critic, the Sword in the Stone is not Excalibur. Excalibur is found by the Lady in the Lake. The sword in the stone is just known as the Sword in the Stone. Excalibur and the Sword in the Stone are from two completely different stories.

well, for one, the sketch had an important mission, even if it was too much: The movie asks you to take for granted many things, too much (the last twist, for example, doesn't make the least bit of sense. If Excalibur destroyed its wielder if they were of less-than-pure heart, you'd think a round table knight would be knowledgeable of that...) And another thing: He is perfectly conscious that a movie can not be 100% transparent on his universe and still be good, as represented by the last sketch, with Mary Poppins: A movie that never, ever explains anything, but he really likes it.

Quest for Camelot isn't nearly as bad as he tries to persuade you it is. First of all, most of his "EXPLAAAAIN" hysteria is answered in the movie. Most of the movie takes action in a "magic forest" as they clearly call it. Yes, that's more than enough for an explanation "why the fuck those leaves are flying? Why are those trees moving?!". I don't remember him shouting "EXPLAIN THE FLYING CARS!" in the Star Wars review. How the hell is "future" more self-explanatory than "magic"? I mean, really, he pretty much missed a line while making stupid jokes about the villain and built the whole episode around his own mistake. Second, yes, the magic forest wasn't in the original Camelot lore - as well as the whole story of Excalibur being stolen by a griffin, lost, found by a wannabe-knight girl and a blind hermit and all that stuff. The story has to take place somewhere. It could be a story of any magical sword and any kingdom, but choosing the Camelot setting actually saves so much screen time from explanations about what kingdom this all takes place in and why the fuck the sword is so important. The movie isn't hi-jacking the Camelot name for advertisement sake, it actually uses it to explain important story stuff without wasting screen time on it. Third, the "acme" label is a self-ironical joke about how they couldn't slip a set of scenes and characters into the movie for an explanation where this magical potion came from. You can assume he picked it up from a wizard, or a witch, or whatever - it has nothing to add in to the story - why would you need another useless character eat the screen time just to pass a bottle to the main villain and never appear again? All the shitty devices Willy E Coyote is using have an ACME label - do you really give a fuck where they come from? Would that add up to the story? This isn't criticism what NC did with this poor cartoon, it's fault-finding. Should we call him Nostalgia Fault-Finder? The axe cock(I had to say it) didn't "turn good", he never really was a bad guy to start with. He is supposed to be a lovable cute little socially weird guy, who simply tries to help the first person who asks him to do something, even if that's bad(as he is too silly to realize it). You know, like Butters from South Park. He might do stupid things, but in the end even he finds out who are the baddies and does the right thing. The song during the chase is a debatable aspect. IMO it actually gives the whole thing a unique feel. Instead of a boring "chuga-chuga-chuga-chuga-doon-doon-doon-doon" chase melody you expect to hear, you actually hear a slow passionate song. What I'm trying to say is, when you put a fast-paced song into a slow-paced scene it becomes comical, but what happens when you put a slow-paced song into a fast-paced scene? It becomes a highly debatable conceptual aspect. Reminds me of Celene Dion's "My heart will go on" music video - it has several scenes from the ship-crashing part even though it's a slow-paced song. Guess the "Quest for Camelot" makers were trying to give this chase scene the same feel as the above mentioned music video. The twin-dragon goes all Genie for his song because that's a way to show how he is all living in his dream world. The girl's song showed us she wants more from this life than being a farmer, the blind hermit's song showed us how he is all one with the fucked up magical nature, and the twin-dragon is simply a dreamer. I agree there could be better ways to show it without bringing up weird anachronistic shit, but taking it as painfully as the Critic did is just wrong. The movie has its' flaws and many of them are addressed in the video, but talking about them isn't nearly as amusing as shouting at flying leaves, is it?

David dz According to your logic, saying "future" means nothing either. Now go on, explain the flying cars in Star Wars. EXPLAAAAAIN!

Another thing they got wrong, Excalibur isn't the Sword in the Stone. They are two completely different blades. The Sword in the Stone was enchanted so that only one of Uther Pendragon's bloodline (aka. Arthur) could draw the blade. Where as Excalibur was a blade given to Arthur by the Lady of the Lake with the promise that he would one day return it to her.

Psion what is the name of the sword in the stone
@astral91737 жыл бұрын
KumaoftheForest It depends on the account. In some later accounts, the Sword in the Stone is called Excaliber. But after killing one of his knights with it, Arthur discarded it and sought out the legendary blade that he would name Excaliber after his old sword. But the elements this movie uses point to Arthur being well past the point in his story where he got the sword from the Lady of the Lake. So even if they were going off that account, there are glaring problems. Older accounts don't directly give the Sword in the Stone any particular name than Sword in the Stone.

To be fair, “Beauty and the beast but Belle is a knight” isn’t exactly unappealing in concept

I agree with all the critiques and I recognize that it's a horrible movie, but I still love it. :D

Lora K. Me too! But I'm sure there's a lot of nostalgia going on. I simply loved it as a child, and 7-year-old-me didn't ask all the "how" and "why's"... it was just awesome as it was ♡
