Of all the Peter Pan sequels/prequels/reimaginings in cinema, this is probably the best. It delves into the more tragic side and psychology of Peter Pan. Interestingly, they do it by flipping the script. Instead of Peter being a boy afraid to grow up, he's an adult who's afraid to remember what it's like to be a child.
@memorra5 жыл бұрын
Peter Pan (2003) was the best.
@ladypool14043 жыл бұрын
Peter pan 2 was good! Yeah the animation was too cartoony and the lost boys song was lame BUT the moral was good. Jane is a likable character, Peter was less of a jerk than in the first movie; He FLIRTED with Tiger lily in front of Wendy and never appologises about it AND he almost let her being drowned by the mermaids while he was laughing at her. With Jane, Peter NEVER let her in danger plus when she arrived; he showed her fun stuff. He even dances with her and gives her a lost girl costume; that was so cute X3
@RYMAN13212 жыл бұрын
But as was said, it’s too damn long and takes too long until Peter becomes likable and gets his powers. And I rolled my eyes when he said he remembered his mother when he was still an infant and was afraid of growing up and dying. Which is not at all biologically possible at that age.

I haven't seen the 2003 remake with Jason Isaacs as Hook, but I've heard that one was underrated. I did watch this movie (and other child-friendly Robin Williams movies from the 1980s and 1990s) so much as a kid that I called Robin Williams "Uncle Robin."

The reason Jack doesn't recognize his father is because Neverland has a strange effect on the mind. In Peter Pan, Wendy's brothers begin to forget their parents too, and Wendy has to keep reminding them that they have to go back at some point because they have a family. It makes you forget about your life on earth so you'll want to stay for ever. In sense, Neverland is holding you hostage and giving you Stockholm syndrome.

There's a neat theory about Peter Pan. It basically says that Peter kidnaps children to join him in Neverland, and when they get too old he kills them; thus, they never grow up. Captain Hook was one of the children who escaped and he recruits the older children to try and stop Peter Pan.

He graced us with an original song he wrote for his fiance, dropped some freestyle poetry jewels, and spoke about his relationship with Robin Williams and his experiences while filming Hook. Oh, and he and his sibling had their own dance crew back in L.A.

As a film Hooks biggest weakness is the tone, its all over the place the tone. Like it sets itself out as a world of fluff and marshmallows but then you have Hook torturing one his pirates to death with scorpions and then later Hook stabs a kid through the heart and he stays dead, then it tries to go back to its fluffy tone. Steve you can't stab a 13 year old to death in your film then go back to smultz five minutes later.
@oxtheunlikelycontemplator26824 жыл бұрын
I personally disagree. That torture scene you mentioned is our intro to Neverland. I think it's fair to remember that what we see of the real world is Peter as a neglectful father and the hurt he imposes on his family. The eternal child has grown up forgot himself in both his old and new identity. Even before the torture scene the scenes of the kids being taken and the reveal that it was Hook was one of the first movie moments in a non horror film to really creep me out. But Neverland is an actual Dream/fantasy land where those who live in it eventually just stop aging. Hook is still alive, well and at an age of some vigour despite being well over a hundred years old. We see Hook almost commity suicide because he cant kill his old enemy in top form! Its delivered in dry tongue in fashion but that's fucking dark! The presence of whimsy doesn't mean things can't get dark!
@nifralo27524 жыл бұрын
@@oxtheunlikelycontemplator2682 Hook threatening to blow Jo's brains out is played more for laughs. But I dont think you can have fluff and a kid being murdered in the same film. Or you cant go back to the fluff after that. Like Titanic dosent have Rose make joke that Billy Zane has a micropenis after the shot of the mum tucking her 7 years olds in to bed before they drown.
@oxtheunlikelycontemplator26824 жыл бұрын
@@nifralo2752 I see where you're coming from but only up to a point The comparison you make to illustrate you're point is one of apples to oranges. Titanic is a fictionalization of a historical mass tragedy and romantic drama with its primary audience being older teens and adults. Hook is a family picture. It's utter fiction in a fantasy land setting. I think personally it does just enough to convey the titular villain as a real threat and that just because Neverland is a dream world doesn't mean everyone's making it out ok. I think not having a fun happy ending wouldn't make sense. The villain is vanquished for good and the kids are free to stay or leave Neverland as they choose and Peter has his family back. Nothing ever gets to be light or funny again because one character dies only works in a few specifics types of movie and this isn't one of them.
@ollieclixby31994 жыл бұрын
@@nifralo2752 I disagree. The killing of Rufio is probably the heaviest scene in the film, however even then, there’s no blood/gore or gratuitous violence. We don’t even see anything in the Boo Box scene! I loved this film as a little kid (obsessed with pirates) and both those scenes never seemed overly dark

See, I always assumed that Peter aged every time he left Neverland. Like, as soon as he leaves, he begins aging like a human again. We never learn how long Peter has been there, but it could be centuries. Depending on how frequently he leaves, and how long he's gone, he could progressively grow older, until he's around 12, when he meets Moira, falls in love, and decides to stay because he wants to be a real father. Also, this movie clearly states that neverland makes you forget. It's why the kids don't recognize their mother at the end, why Jack doesn't recognize his father, why it takes Maggie a moment to realize that YES, Peter Pan is her father. Maggie literally says 'Jack! Neverland makes you forget! Never forget mommy and daddy! Think of a way to run home, Jack, RUN HOME'
